One of several Michelin-starred restaurants in the backstreets of Kagurazaka, Kyorakutei serves very good soba by Tokyo standards. Soba is of course handmade and available hot and cold. Not to be missed as well, is the excellent tempura served. Try the season tempura specials with your soba, or even the well-prepared side dishes such as grilled anago (sea eel) and... More

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2016 via mobile

We found this place with some difficulty because of a lack of English signage - have posted photos of the signs to help future travellers as it was well worth the effort. Freshly made on premise soba with seasonal tempura was sensational. Surprise of the evening was a simple omelette which tasted amazing and was quite the spectacle to see... More

Located in the middle of Kagurazaka area, Kyoraku-tei offers great Tempura and other delicacies to satisfy Sake/Shouchu drinkers. It is one of the few places where you feel very comfortable to enjoy alcohol during the lunch time in Tokyo. Saba, of course, is top rate and there are may choices. Reservations are generally not taken so prepared to wait in... More

Staying in Yotsuya / Iidabashi

Neighbourhood Profile
Yotsuya / Iidabashi
Yotsuya and Iidabashi are areas that developed around the outer moat of the Imperial palace. Nearby in Kagurazaka, there is an old red-light district with a photogenic feel evocative of the ambiance of old Tokyo. Narrow paths with stone paving remain to this day, and there are long-standing restaurants with geishas and quaint old cafes in townhouse buildings.
