I have visited here repeatedly for over 5 years. 5 years ago, Quintessence was the "restaurant of perfection". There was nothing negative on the plate...traditional yet creative, artistic and beautiful. The famous goat cheese bavarois with olive oil and sea salts is relaxing stomach to go ahead. The way of heating meat was especially amazing with long hour, low temperature... More

If there were higher rating than 3 stars at the Michelin guide for sure this place qualifies automatically .. The food delivered on every aspect , from start to finish The set course menu was light yet fulfilling Every meal came in a stunning presentation , and even equally good taste to complement it , Meanwhile the wine pairing was... We went there for my partner's birthday dinner. The food was good enough, though not what I expected from all the fuzz, michelin stars and 5 month wait. There was one particular insolent staff/sommelier that was amazingly rude while we were there, we didn't even get to finish our dinner and left on the first serving of the four course... More

Unfortunately couldn't take any pictures in the restaurant. The chef was trained under Pascal Barbot at L'Astrance in Paris, and the same sensibilities show which is great respect for the ingredients and achieving its peak flavor without much embellishment. The restaurant seems like a temple of gastronomy with an austere, hushed surroundings. That said, service was good and chef came... More

Visiting Michelin star-rated restaurants is already one of the main items in the my agenda when travelling. Quintessence has been in the top of my list for a few years. Finally, after my Tokyo friend made 30 phone calls attempting to make the reservation for me, I got the table. The whole menu is creative; each dish is carefully prepared... More

Made a booking for this place 2 months in advance and was stoked to get a private dining room for 4! Yes, it is true that you are not allowed to take photos in the main dining hall but in the private dining room, photos are allowed. I hear lots of complaints about not bring able to take photos but... More

We had dinner there last year , 2015. Yr current address is his old address.I had dined in his old restaurant before, it was truly wonderful but in his new restaurant , it was horrible.Service was robotic, from starters to main dish, nothing special, portion was too small and wines , only French.cutlery and plates was used repeatedly. All in all,... No photos allowed at the main dining hall. Young chef. Good service as well as fantastic wine service. Very food wine list, well selected old vintages.

First of all: We were told when we were there that no photos were allowed... That says a lot about this chef... he isn't proud of how his food looks, so he doesn't allow photographs (btw, they should have told about this when we booked, not just when we were there). Food was bad... trying to be pretentious, and getting... More

Staying in Shinagawa / Gotanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinagawa / Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.
