This is simply the best tonkatsu place in Tokyo (that I know of) - and it was recommended to me by both locals and expats. A must visit for any trip to Tokyo, next to Meguro station.

I've been to this restaurant since I was little and still same people work here until this day. They cook the tonkatsu front of you and rice, soup and cabbage is unlimited. People do line up to eat, so better to go little earlier than dinner time to avoid waiting in line. If not, you can sit upstairs without waiting.

Visited here after multiple online recommendations and a personal recommendation from a friend who lives in Tokyo. It seems it's extremely popular amongst locals and tourists alike and we can see why. There'll be a wait but it is most definitely worth it. After 20 mins or so we were seat and served the most delicious pork katsu ever. The... More

Yes there will be a queue but it's worth the wait. This place does two dishes - pork and chicken tomatsu but is know for its pork. The meal was simple but extremely tasty!

A friend and business associate of mine who has been coming to "Tonkatsu Tonki" for the past 40 years... Located a few steps from the main road down the hill from Meguro station, you will see the entrance to "Tonkatsu Tonki" (no English sign but look at my photo of entrance). 'Tonki' was founded in 1939, and through its history... More

Doing one thing and doing it well. This is fabulous tonkatsu at a simple restaurant. I've been going there when I visit Tokyo for about 30 years and it seems like it is the same people - the same great product - all done right in front of you. A warning - this is restaurant that you sit down at... More

We went there with a group of colleagues after work, we picked this place on trip advisor and oh boy it delivered. The tonkatsu itself is fantastic but what is more compelling and engrossing is to see the whole team at work: just that it's worth - the very reasonable - price.

You can feel some history about this place when stepping in. The pork cutlet was alright, well seasoned well cooked in a traditional way on a flat iron pan. Not similar to modern tonkatsu with a lot of flaky crumbs. There was a ling queue as people like to sit at counter to see their food being cooked.

We read many good reviews of Tonki, but were disappointed with the experience. We entered the restaurant and waited approximately 35 minutes before being seated at the counter. The lady at the counter set up our dinner settings and we waited a little while more for the dinner platters. During the meal, one of the male servers took my rice... More

Staying in Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu

Neighbourhood Profile
Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.
