We had lunch here to celebrate my daughter's confirmation. There were 14 in our group and we were given a little room out the back, all to ourselves. We had a few special diet requirements in our group and we were all looked after and catered for perfectly. The waitress looking after us was very nice and helpful and we all really enjoyed our food. Huge helpings too! We have been here before for other occasions and have always been very happy with everything.

We love The Old Barracks and always try to visit when visiting my parents locally. Thankfully nothing changes here, the service is always exceptional as is the food.
We had a delcious Turkey dinner, with every accompaniment you could want. The salmon was spectacular, served with noodles and an Asian inspired sauce.
It is always an absolute joy to visit this fantastic restaurant, if only you could expand to the UK....

Was in this Bistro on Monday 24th Feb 20202. Ordered a full Irish will tea asked for no black pudding. given extra white. When meal arrived I was very pleased with what was served. As for the was delighted to be given a mug instead of a small cup as with most places. Price was worth paying €10.50 all food is local including the lovely browne bread.

A visit to The Old Barracks is always the highlight of our week.
The food is superb at reasonable prices and generous portion size. The staff are very friendly and always have a welcoming smile on their faces.
Not only is the Barracks our regular haunt for breakfast or lunch, we have also held a number of family get togethers in the venue - including our downsized wedding celebrations during Covid 19. The service and atmosphere for parties is top class and easily exceeds that of other, more recognised, wedding venues.
Beautiful cakes and cheesecakes from the bakery for birthdays, or other celebrations, are also recommended.. We're becoming a little too fond of those!
The management and staff have done a wonderful job of coping with all the restrictions in 2020 and we are looking forward to seeing more of the Barracks gang in 2021.
And Finally....The coffee is MAGIC!

I collected a prebooked takeaway afternoon tea today for a picnic. There was 5 of us but I had been told that the Afternoon Tea for 4 would be sufficient. And indeed it was. Great value too (€50 for 4, €30 for 2)
There was a lovely selection of sandwiches and a fabulous selection of pastries. The macaroons were the nicest I've ever tasted. There was cream and jam to go with the mini scones but unfortunately no knife. Coffees were extra, herbal teas were mentioned in the menu so most likely included if asked for.
It was fresh and well presented and I will definitely be returning.

Time and time again this place surpasses expectation. I can highly recommend it!! We've eaten here many a time and we've never been disappointed. There's always friendly staff about to look after you and the food is just delicious (and a lot of it's local!!!!) can't wait to return.

With numerus changes to our Weddings plans (thanks to Covid!!!) we were lucky to secure catering by The Old Barracks. They really went above and beyond by agreeing to cater for us last minute. Everything was handled so professionally, and our guests were raving about how good the food was. We will definitely order again for our next event and will be sure to pay a visit to the Restaurant when normality returns. I honestly couldn’t recommend Scott and team highly enough. Thanks for everything.

Went with family for evening meal. Menu is limited. The special was fillet steak but arrived as a rib eye, was meager at best. Onion rings nice. Chips were frozen cut and average and that was it, a poor offering for a steak dinner. The chicken noodles were not great and better can be had elsewhere.
Wine was nice malbec.
Kids had pasta, hard to mess that up.
Staff were nice but disorganized, no cutlery, no condiments then loads of different staff coming and going.
I'm not one to complain but the chef can certainly do better, it seems like they not bothered when they one of only few places in Athenry.
Won't be going back any time soon

Thanks for visiting us, we are sorry to see such a disappointing review. Thankfully we receive lots of positive reviews here for our wholesome atmosphere and quality food. I noticed you haven’t reviewed anyone since pre lockdown so perhaps you are unaware that under the current guidelines we do not leave Condiments/Flowers/Cutlery/Napkins on tables as we would have in the past, this is a measure to help keep our valued guests safe, our menus are also smaller than normal to help keep our kitchen teams safe with less cross over and contact in the kitchens. We don’t ever offer Fillet steak so I’m unsure how this confusion occurred. Our Rib Eyed steak is 8oz of Local beef, but that doesn’t mean it’s always perfect, we would have preferred to have replaced your meal at the time had you mentioned an issue to us but unfortunately you didn’t let any of the staff know while dinning. We apologise if any aspect of your meal or service was below par and we take pride in everything we do here at The Old Barracks. There are 11 other restaurants in Athenry whom you might try the next time you are in town. All the best. Scott

We had the most delicious lunch in the big outdoor area. Staff were friendly and efficient and everything seemed Covid compliant.
The falafel burger was delicious, lots of vegan and veggie options too. The goats cheese salad was packed full of flavour and the steak sandwich was really tasty. The kids portions were really big and they did a child size portion of one of the specials on request. Great value lunch, will definitely be back.

The old barracks recently catered a christening party for us at our home. Both the service and food were excellent. All of our guests commented on how good the food was. The old barracks delivered all required equipment including plates, cutlery, ladles, napkins and equipment to keep the food warm. We would definitely use this service again so thanks to all involved.

Visited this pizzeria on the spur of the moment, it was 16:50 in the evening and we had no reservation but a lovely red haired girl who met us at the door said that she could fit us in but they needed the table at 18:00, that was ok with us as we just needed something quick to eat after a long journey to Athenry. We ordered a starter for two, two glasses of wine and a pizza between us and I have to say we enjoyed the food so much. We would highly recommend this pizzeria and hope to visit again soon. Thanks again to the red haired girl who found a table for us at such short notice. Sorry that we didn't get her name.

Busy restaurant in Athenry. Staff helpful and plentiful. We called in for lunch and I had the steak sandwich which was just OK. The mistake was that it included melted brie which just did not work. It needed Philadelphia if I'm honest. The chunky fries were standard fries which were good. My wife had the Bacon, Avocado and Brie melt. Again, just OK. Not so sure about the sourdough bread. This was also accompanied by fries. We also had tea and it's nice to report is was packet tea instead of teabags, which was nice and a rarity these days.

We were based in Westport and decided to visit Athenry and Galway City. As we drove into the village I said to the others that The Old Barracks looked interesting, all agreed. We found a place to park and walked back.
Upon entry we were offered a lovely big table in Jail Cell #2, a private dining space which was ideal. The menu choices were varied and I had already spied desserts on my way in.
Our waiter, Conaire, was a very nice lad, very helpful. The youngest of our group was a five year old who throughout the earlier part of the week had played with every main course she had chosen. We asked if we could have an extra plate so she could have a wee bit from each of the adults, this request was easily accommodated and said five year old ate the lot. We were left wondering why we hadn’t thought of this before.
The aforementioned desserts were every bit as delicious as I had anticipated. I would definitely recommend The Old Barracks at Athenry to anyone visiting the area.

Fabulous clean and wonderful atmosphere. We were served by a friendly young lady first who helped with all menus queries in a lovely infomative manner and then a friendly Conaire served us. Food was delicious and the barracks is a lovely relaxing place to eat. Would highly recommend this place and its great staff.

Lovely food well presented by a very friendly and helpful staff. We had the Chef special pasta which was meatballs so good.. fish of the day was cod in the most amazing batter. Great wine menu. Will be back.. Bakery and deserts looked fab..
