Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were passing through and wanted a quick bite of lunch. The place looked busy so we said it had to be good. We were not wrong. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. The service was fast and friendly. The menu is quiet...big and there is a carvery option too. If you are looking for a feed look no furtherMore

We had a ‘roots’ day with two sisters in their 80s to show their grandchildren all the special places of their childhood between Baileborough and Cootehill all those years ago. It was a hoot! We had a great fun day organised by their daughters with...a nana-in-law in tow as well. From an early start to our arrival in Cootehill at 5.40pm we visited houses, relations, schools and graveyards. So in spite of elevenses and a picnic lunch in one of the graveyards, we were anxious to have a meal by the time we got to Sean’s. In spite of being so close to the 6 o’clock closing time, we were welcomed by the most delightful waitress. She moved tables and got us comfortable, brought drinks and took our order while assuring us that we were no trouble at all. We had several half portions which were plated individually. The fish was cod with a delicious crispy batter, the chips were perfectly cooked and the garnish was coleslaw and salad. The chicken goujons were large chunks of chicken in a crispy batter and the lasagne was really enjoyed by the 9 year old. The meal finished with an offer of a fresh pot of tea and a plate of biscuits. The whole experience was just what the doctor ordered. The toilets were spotless. Sean came out of the kitchen before we left and was able to discuss mutual acquaintances or their descendants with the sisters. We are so grateful for a perfect end to our day. We all had a hug with the waitress and left in a warm glow of friendship. Don’t miss a visit here when you are in Cootehill.More

we arrived in cootehill around 1.30 pm , after a 41/2 hour drive from tipperary ,thanks to a sat nav that took us on a tour of cavan and monaghan , feeling more than a little 'peckish ' we looked to get a bite to...eat and (mainly) a cup of tea ! sadly in cootehill these days the choice of places to dine is rather limited ,so we found seans diner --- so glad we did -- the place was busy with a mixture of family and 'business' diners ,we were shown to a table near to the serving area , while being tempted by the smell of the roast meats from the carvery attended to by the man (sean ) himself - we decided to go for a 'lighter '' option -and settled for salad and a toasted 'special ' with a pot of tea for 2 -- how welcome that first cuppa was after our drive up from tipp -- our food duly arrived with a good sized salad 'garnish' and a portion of chips on the side -- it was only a sandwich but it was very nice , fresh and tasty . sean came over to our table with a fresh pot of tea and we had a nice little talk - i told him i had been in cootehill some 33 years previously and that the place had changed a lot , a really nice man ,he gave us hints on places to visit in the area . the meal was very welcome and very reasonably priced and the 2nd pot of tea -for which there was no charge was most welcome . pity sean's doesnt stay open until later in the evening though as the town is sadly lacking in eateries that serve past 6pm - apart from a couple of fairly bog standard (and below ) takeaways -none of the bars or pubs do food of an evening .More

Don't go expecting fancy food. Do go, expecting good honest food - done the way you like it ! Seemed to be full of locals, who were ordering various things, fried eggs with chips, orange squash and bread and butter pudding ! You get the...picture ! ..... Bit like eating at home .... if you want this with that .... and I don't want any of that, they seem very accommodating ! Good honest no frills food !More

We were passing through Cootehill and this seemed the best place to eat in the early afternoon.Reasonable selection of standard food. We had fish and chips. The fish was fresh and portion sizes were good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It was clean.
