We cannot speak highly enough of La Place. We have eaten here on a number of occasions when using this interesting town as a “stop over” .Our recent dinner did not disappoint - the set menu was interesting, as usual, but the a la carte...choices held extra temptations! The service is always attentive with a great eye for detail and the welcome warm. The wine list is interesting and well explained by the charming proprietor. The people of St.Jean D’Angely are fortunate to have such a gem of a restaurant in their midst - we look forward to joining them each time we are in their vicinity.More

Simply French cuisine at its best simple unpretentious and delicious. Friendly staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome despite being the only English eating at lunchtime in a packed restaurant.

Having not been in France for many months, we were very happy to be able to visit our favourite local restaurant, run impeccably by Pascal. The cuisine is inventive but retains a French feel, chef Loic is a master of flavour and presentation. All produce...is locally sourced and the wines well chosen. Service is professional and unobtrusive. There are a number of good restaurants in St Jean but we always return to this very fine establishment.More

We decided to stop in St Jean d'Angély on our way north as the motorway traffic was awful and we needed to find dinner. A quick search on Google brought up the restaurant at the Hôtel de la Place which had great reviews. It was...superb! Great service, spoilt for choice with the menu, delicious food and an amuse bouche on the house. Reasonably priced too. We hadn't booked but were there at 7:30pm and just as well; almost every table full by 8:30pm. Definitely recommend.More

If you are a vegetarian of looking for a place to take vegetarian guests, look no further. I visited here with several friends in late October and as one of us was vegetarian, we all took the veggie menu which was a carpaccio of beetroot...for entree and a divine creamy vegetable risotto for mains and a fresh fruit crumble for dessert. It was superb. So often in France, vegetarian options are either non-existent or a plate of drab salad leaves and full of disappointment but not here. By prior arrangement, the owner also welcomed my little Westie dog. Great restaurant with kind professional staff and excellent food. We'll be back!More

Our first time here, a decent choice of set menus at a reasonable price, we both enjoyed the fish main with the cafe gourmand probably the best I've ever had, overall a nice way to celebrate a birthday just a shame the restaurant was empty.

Enjoyed the meal, service was good. Lobster risotto was delicious. Desserts were beautiful and just the right portion. Also enjoyed a quiet walk around the pittoresque et historique ville après.

Wasn’t easy trying to find a suitable restaurant on a Wednesday evening, our first choice was fully booked. Now we know why! Second and third choices were closed. So luckily, probably because it’s a hotel, this was open and we took a chance. So glad...we did. The food was excellent. They did have a problem processing a card payment, which apparently happens regularly due to internet access.More

Excellent location both within the town and also just off motorway only 5 hours from the French ports to UK. Warm welcome from the owner and shown to a comfortable room. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent as was the wine.

Poor service and the food was not great at all. Soggy bread starter which was made out of overly fishy fish. The steak was at least 50% fat and very undercooked. There were
