We called here based on the number of good reviews "The Fish Basket" has received on "Trip Advisor". The choice was limited, but the staff on duty kindly offered us the option of selecting both types of fish (Plaice and Hake) that were on the menu on the day we visited . We tried both and were glad we did as they were really tasty. The chips were nice too, but the portion size was pretty small considering the cost (€13.50). We would still recommend the location for the quality of the food presented.

Situated on glorious Long Strand, the Fish Basket is a real gem of a restaurant in West Cork. Walk the strand, marvel at Galley Head in the distance and when you've worked up an appetite pop into The Fish Basket for a generous helping of the freshest fish and home made chips, all at a very reasonable price.
Memories are made in places like this. Dont miss it if you're ever round West Cork, one of the most beautiful and scenic locations in the world. Not to be missed.

Called intoThe Fish Basket on a recommendation of a work colleague. My wife and I shared a sharing platter of hake/lemon sole and I think scampi and a huge portion of home made style chips(fries). Really loved it. Good efficient service despite the Covid stuff. Had to eat in the car due to dining restrictions but would definitely return.

Fell upon this place whilst out for a spin around Clonakilty and Roscarberry. It was a lovely surprise!
We each got scampi and chips but one portion would done two of us because the portions were huge!
The dining is outdoor and the scenery is breathtaking.
Well worth a stop off if you're passing though.

Fabulous location, and outdoor seating to have a view of the beach. Perfrct for a summer day. Got the fish and chips and was fab. They have those cool buzzer things too, so when you order you wait outside, and when the buzzer vibrants, the food is ready to collect. Fish and chips was very tasty and highly recommend a visit for the view and the food.

We went there on Mother's day and it was fairly packed. I had to queue for an hour but it was well worth it. Probably the nicest (and freshest) fish and chips I have had in years. The fish sharing box is huge and even the kids fish and chips is quite large and was devoured by my 10 year old.
Staff were very friendly and I have to give a special mention to the coffee. Very tasty!
We will definitely be back again.

On hols in Baltimore, the family vacating a nearby cottage recommended this place so we stopped in after a long spell on inchydoney.
Busy but not waiting long, first rate fish & chips, really as good as I've had anywhere, 10yr old son estatic about his scampi.
Food of this quality should be commonplace in tourist locations but unfortunately most places don't make the effort. As such this place should be supported and comes with a full endorsement from me & family. Well done!

I have been to this restaurant many times at various locations and the food is always lovely. The fish is fresh and there menu is different from other fish and chip places (fish tacos are very good).
It was my 1st visit post COVID and there was a long wait and you couldn't call ahead to order. Nice place to stop off but I'll probably wait till after the summer season to go again.

Great 2 hours on dunes with kids. Cold day Jan 2nd 2022 and I joined the queue (well signed social distancing). 35 minutes from queue start to receiving food. Met the ‘usherer’ at the side of the Fish Basket. He was rude, sarcastic and bad mannered when he ‘pulled me up’ for not understanding the undocumented/unsigned ‘ orocedures for placing an order at the take away. I decided to not order food for myself (& bought take away elsewhere later) but couldn’t disappoint my kids. I did buy a cappucino. Euros 3.00 for the smallest paper cup of coffee I have ever purchased in Ireland. My kids enjoyed the tasty fish & chips but the whole experience was ruined for me, particularly, with the man’s sarcastic ‘thank you’ as I walked away from the take away. I won’t part with my money again at that establishnent.

The Fish Basket
Oh plain as day I was expecting to hear from you. One of the rudest customers ever to grace our restaurant over the Christmas holidays. No Christmas cheer here. Even the guy in the line behind you commented on how rude you were. You refused a menu twice when I offered you one in the line and when you came to order you walked straight passed me and the please wait here sign. I had to ask you to come back to where we take the orders outside so as to reduce numbers inside. I asked what could I get for you to which you sarcastically answered “well, what have you got…”. When I offered you a menu for a third time you quickly followed that up by immediately calling me rude and ill mannered and asking “did I want your business or not”.. It was at this point that I should have said no and asked you to leave but I said I’d bite my tongue seeing as you had waited in the line for food and I knew either way at this stage you were planning your TripAdvisor revenge. It took all I had in me to give you that thank you as you left but I am thankful to all customers no matter what although I could feel your own sarcastic nodding gesture towards me was totally NOT genuine. The man in the line behind you then said “that’s not the last you’ll hear from her” as he rolled his eyes to heaven and we got on with our day and serving all the rest of our loyal happy customers. Sure enough, 2 days later when you’ve had time to compose your thrashing of us, here we are. I’m glad the kids at least were happy with their meal and hopefully in the future they will remember our fantastic food and the fun they had in the dunes and come back again when they are older and thankfully they will drop you off somewhere to part with your own money getting take away and cheap cappuccinos elsewhere
Look out folks, plain as day can have quite the sting.
All the best.
Peter the “usher” who is actually the owner.

So I'm on a quest to find top class fish and chips at good value. Travelled over 40 miles to check this place out today. Myself and 3 kids. After a nice stroll on the beach we headed in. Greeted warmly by a nice girl who took our order outside and organised a table for us. I ordered the fish and chips myself and was told there was lemon sole and haddock today. She told me I could have both, also ordered two kids fish and chips and the burger for the non fish eater. Seated promptly and when food came it was amazing. Lemon sole and haddock perfectly fresh and batter light and crispy. Kids meals really good too, they were delightful . Burger very tasty too. All for 37 euro. For me, this place is no. 1 for what it does. Followed by saltee in Kilmore Quay and monks Lane Timoleague. Keep up the good work guys and never leave the standards drop. We need these options along our coasts.

One of my favourite places for a quick lunch. Visited on bank holiday weekend and had to queue, the staff were friendly and helpful and despite the wait the order and buzzer collect service was slick and effective. As someone who works in the industry this was very clever and professional. Food was great, the share box was delicious and good value and the open crab sandwich was fantastic and presented in a way you would not expect at a picnic bench beside the beach!

The best fish and chips I have ever eaten- repeatedly.
Whenever we visit family in West Cork, we make a point of going here. Amazing fish, the best scampi you'll ever eat, and piles of delicious chips. Best of all, you can call ahead so the food is ready when you arrive, and bring a bottle of something good to enjoy with it.
Fantastic.

For a much improved experience table service, or delivery of what you ordered to your table inside or outside would make it a much better experience. I ordered at the counter, paid, took my seat and then the staff came over to me to tell me my coffee was ready and to be collected at the counter. Would have made much more sense if they would have brought it directly. Saw this happening a few times in the 25min I was there, and each customer had the same reaction as me. I intend this to be constructive for the management.

Hi
Thank you for you visit and glad you enjoyed your meal.
All feedback is greatly appreciated.
At the fish basket unfortunately as a business similar to many others we do not offer table service. We ask that the customer do a little bit of the leg work and help us out. Our business model is first come first serve, order from the counter and pay on ordering, collect ordered coffees cakes etc from the counter and only then take a seat. If sitting outside we give a buzzer which sounds when food is ready for collection. If sitting inside we drop your order to the table.
This is as I said quite similar to many other businesses and is done purely because of the cost of running a business at present and the lack of staff currently in the hospitality sector.
We hope that this clears up any confusion and look forward to seeing you again.
All the best for now.

We visited this place elevated on the dunes of The Long Strand, between Castlefreke & Roscarberry.. During these times of COVID it was extremely well organised, every was so friendly.
The fish tasted like it had just jumped out of sea onto your plate, absolutely delicious.
I had crab, it was delicious and my husband had fish & chips with mushy peas, so so fresh. If you’re in the area go, it’s not to be missed & whats more you can get a seat overlooking the beach…what’s not to like!
