This waterfront area below the most famous section of the Huangpu River has undergone multiple phases of development that started when the Waterhouse Hotel opened its doors. Though it’s been slower to catch on than people expected, every year something new and exciting opens up and gives people a reason to keep calling the South Bund the "Next Big Thing." There are a couple of landmark hotels and restaurants of excellent quality that serve as anchors, and multiple annual events such as beer festivals, art and fashion fairs and music shows take advantage of the wide spaces, waterfront location and the tiny man-made beach to host huge crowds of people. Wandering about the newness, one can stumble upon authentic Chinese life in the stone gates of people’s residences or the street markets.
So it's a place where they have exhibitions, but they don't have a regular collection, they have different exhibitions visiting.
I went to Shinkai Makoto exhibition and although pretty and quite interesting, it wasn't really a good one (mostly printouts of screenshots from movies, storyboards, and creative process shown - how the images were created, or what pictures of real...
On a recent guided visit to Shanghai, a stop at the Silk Museum was included in our tour. We had a knowledgeable museum guide who explained how silk worms develop and how the silk is harvested and made into the bedding, clothes and other silk products we’ve come to see and buy in stores. It was quite interesting. The “museum”...
"Shanghai Dongjiadu Church Heavily Damaged and Closed Indefinitely"
reviewed 15 May 2018 by George F
The heavy construction around Shanghai Dongjiadu Church, a.k.a. St Francis Xavier Church, may have severely damaged the foundations of the church, and it has been closed since September 2016. No Catholic Masses are being held no members of the public are permitted to enter the premises. The church compound is surrounded by high steel construction barricades, and steel framework to...
"Great steakhouse with wonderful view on the river"
reviewed 1 week ago by A TripAdvisor Member
This steakhouse is differentiating itself from others thanks to the combination of the great views and excellent quality of Beef. We had a selection of different beef and they were all good!
Dessert is of lower quality after having taken also a selection of different small desserts we concluded that dessert is not their specialty!
Service was very good and...
Located on the South Bund the views on a nice day are great. Service is great but food is so so. There are a lot of places in Shanghai where you can get brunch and this place will only get the one visit.
at one place where we had next to carrefour the staff was very good & friendly. the food served was awesome. the service was excellent. the other restaurant was near the shanghai museum in a commercial bldg on ground floor. during that time also there was a tour group that entered. the staff behaved very stressed & with an attitude.
I only used this restaurant for breakfast and they have a big spread available buffet style.
There are several hot dishes you can order and I like their Eggs Benedict with Iberico Ham and spinach. HOWEVER, you need to spell out that you want soft poached eggs, as otherwise you may get hand grenades!
They have many fresh Joghurts and...
Since you enter the warm welcome and the highest level of professionalism and courtesy of the staff brings you to another level of travel.
Either you decide to use in room service for the whole time here or you decide to get to know Shanghai they will guarantee your comfort and safety.
A special Mention to Ms. Miranda Miao Who...
There is nothing not to like about this place. It is an art series hotel with cool decor, cool staff and cool music playing wherever you go. There is clever use of ambient lighting throughout which enhances the experience.
I stayed two nights and would have happily stayed more. An added bonus is the rooftop bar which has a DJ...
Hi, very unfortunate to say that when i reached the hotel , hotel staff told me that booking for foreigner are not accepted and i had to spend my half of the day in the same hotel trying to understand the reason behind it.. Hotel staff doesn't even understand English and was of no help for me to book a...
"Pretty amazing industrial hotel - brilliant restaurant "
reviewed 15 May 2018 by wstokes1965
Stayed one night (room 32) which was one of the suites - great size room and amazing views. The joinery in room appeared worn out / paint peeling etc - we couldn’t quite work out if this was the look or lack of maintenance!
The overall architecture of the hotel is very industrial and the foyer area amazing.
It is a wise choice for a traveller on their own expenses. Comfortable but very cheap. The hotel is clean and easy to access. Comparing to the 300, 400 hotels, this one really justifys its value. I will use the same hotel next time travel to shanghai.
