Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
This beach is crowded, especially on the weekends but there are some good eye candy on the each. Watch yourself carefully because there are wondering eyes and hands all over, so do not taking anything of value there. The beach is gorgeous and most of the people are friendly. It's a must do while there but the water is colder...

"A nice statue on the promenade at Arpoador Beach - Ipanema."

This is a nice statue celebrating Tom Jobim who was famous as the composer who wrote the popular Bossa Nova song "Garota de Ipanema" (The Girl from Ipanema) in the 1960's with his poet friend Vinicius de Moraes. Jobim died in a New York hospital in December 1994 and was flown back to Rio de Janeiro for burial.
For those like myself who love the arts and culture, don't miss out on this cultural space. It offers an art gallery, a bookshop, a cafe and a cinema. The films shown in the cinema are generally interesting, European productions and also independent films of Brazil and other nations. The ambience is pleasant and tranquil. The admittance and the food are...
We have visited this museum twice (on both our trips to Rio) and we highly recommend it to people who are interested in fine jewelry and gemstones. The actual mining displays are very interesting, but the gems steal the show! The colors and size of the stones displayed are amazing and they are all beautiful. Once you have toured the...
We were a party of six. I was quite pleased with all of the dishes that were served and everyone commented on how delicious the food was and the details of the presentations. The service was excellent. The only suggestion that I would make is that for a French chef, the wine list could be a little more extensive. However,...
Local Ipanema corner restaurant . Don’t expect anything fancy but you still need a t-shirt on you . Chose from home cooked dishes with healty vegetable . A lot of young people and gym guys . Not the cheapest one .
"The Fasano is amazing! The only place to stay in Rio"
reviewed 3 days ago by Ricardo M
We returned to the Fasano and the hotel is still on top of their game. Friendly check in, beautiful rooms and a roof top pool that is beyond words. The breakfast was incredible. The real enjoyment is the staff: friendly, knowledgeable and they seem to anticipate your needs. Deric at the front desk is great. Alexander, Willem and Chris at...
"New and comfortable hotel between Ipanema and Copacabana"
reviewed 6 days ago by AsherCo
My wife and I spent one night at the Best Western hotel in Ipanema. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was small but very functional, the hotel and room were very clean, and we even got a parking space free of charge.
Great value for our money. We'll definitely return next time we're in Rio
I am currently staying at this hotel and I must say it's like an oasis of peace in the midst of the excitement. Close to the beach and all shopping in ipanema giving a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration.
Initially some teething issues with wifi etc but Gustavo on reception was excellent. He sorted my issues out immediately and...
Helpful staff, wonderful outdoor cafe` out back, just off the Ocean. The rooms are small, though nice and clean, with an ample - sized bathroom. Breakfast included. My only complaint is that there is no gym .
Room was small but with all the basic necessities. Great breakfast and very friendly staff. Cleaning service a little sloppy. Replaced towels and shampoos but the floor always had sand after being cleaned.
