Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.

"Lovely suburb of Melbourne"
reviewed 2 weeks ago by EleanorBall
I love visiting Fitzroy there are lots of different bars, restaurants and cafes that are great to either eat or have a drink in. Overall it is a really nice suburb or Melbourne with easy access to Melbourne CBD (Central Business District).
Honestly, I could spend hours here. It’s great seeing contemporary photography artists been given the support to show their works at a large professional space.
I have also really appreciated seeing diversity in artists being celebrated at CCP. This gallery has introduced me to some of my favourite indigenous female photographers and for that I will be forever grateful.
The Gallery has been a constant in Brunswick Street for decades offering an eclectic range of prints at reasonable prices. Its well worth a browse through the collection on offer which covers both Australian and overseas artists. Very helpful staff have been a feature of the gallery for many years.
My friends and I did the Egyptian escape room yesterday and it was fantastic!! The night started off as stressful as we arrived 30 minutes late after getting stuck in some awful traffic. However, the lovely staff at The Mystery Rooms were so friendly and accommodating and allowed us to still have our full 60 minutes to complete the room....
I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. We went to Grub after visiting Melbourne Museum - located at walkable distance from the museum. It was a really nice place to chill and have brunch. Food was also tasty!

"Tapas & rooftop views"
reviewed 1 week ago by echamilton
Came back two nights in a row I loved it so much! (mainly because on a Sunday night all items on the tapas menu are $9 so it's a great way to try everything!).
Set up on a cosy rooftop with gorgeous views of the city and beautifully lit with colorful fairy lights.
Tapas menu is so yummy and there's...
Had dec my time at the Derby during Super Bowl LI, friendly staff, good environment, clean, nice patio and didn’t know it was a hotel. Washroom was dank and located out on Patio. I guess drinks were reasonably priced for Australia but paying $13 for 16oz of cider is a bit much being a traveler. They did have specials though.
