If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
The Italians have added much to Australian life. This small museum tells many stories. Many Italians came from out of the way places which had, in technological terms, barely entered the 20th century but they soon adapted to life in Australia. Sport, especially AFL, is a great leveler in Melbourne, and the museum celebrates many champion footballers of Italian origin....
This is a fairly average park off Lygon Street and provides a good area of green and a few trees, a public toilet but frankly it could have been so much better and fits in well with the Piazza italiano of which it forms part and which quite poor.
Went to La Mama to see a small play the other night. A very good small theatre, probably holds a hundred or so people. Good seating and viewing. Drinks available as well. And the old courthouse makes a great venue.
Lygon Street is a destination and with restauranteurs enticing you into their place and sometimes with a free bottle of wine, discovering your place is an experience . I so enjoy the hustle and bustle of the street and when you discover your place is the place - great. A notice on the door says no pizza; all good as...
A really fantastic night. Excellent food, we ordered 4 different meals and they were all beautiful and delicious. Attentive service. Reasonably priced too. We will be back. They sell their beautiful hand blown Murano water glasses too. I bought some...they are so beautiful and original
I’m not really an eater of gelato but was told this was the best gelato in Melbourne.
I went to Lygon Street only to try this and I wasn’t disappointed.
I had plain chocolate but there was a variety of different flavours.
We were lucky to arrive when there was no line up but while we were sitting enjoying our...
A good central location when you have to work around the Melbourne Metro area. Close access to main roads makes it easy for the interstate traveller to navigate their way around. There's an excellent choice of good places to eat at, all within a very short walk from the property.
Very limited on-site parking is the only downside, which you...
Stayed here with wife and son, two beds in the room.
The location is very good and an easy walk to Lygon Street and other attractions like the Museum and IMAX. Off street parking, but not secure. At least not when I was there. There is a gate but it was open at 1am so I'd guess it stayed open....
We have stayed here a number of times now and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Great location, walking distance to the City.
Clean room with all the basics.
Lovely people with great customer service.
Have already booked again for our stay for the Boxing Day test.
We stayed here for a family wedding and were happy to be upgraded to a two bedroom room however that was about as good as it got. The room was very dated and needed a lot of work, my 1.5yo had a portacot that had a huge bump in the base making it very difficult to sleep. We ended up...
