Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
Elegant and beautifully maintained reading room. Easy access using trams or walking (at the top end of Swanston Street). The special exhibitions are hidden gems and change regularly. Amazing items of historical significance (eg. illuminated manuscripts and artworks) are often on display. Free and highly recommended.
"Classy and elegant with some famous historical early Australian art."

The Ian Potter Centre is easy to get to (Federation Square) and lovely to wander around - not too big but big enough - worth the visit for special exhibitions and the enjoy the iconic Australian paintings by our famous painters. The Centre is less busy than the big NGV and if you want to see some great art and...
Trevor was our guide and must get a special mention as he really made the tour. We did the tour at night which made it extra spooky. But i had no idea of the stories behind the place so it really did make the place come alive. or should i say dead? mhahahahaha
This museum dedicated to Aussie film is free. There are selected exhibitions that require a paid ticket but for most tourists the free exhibitions are more than sufficient. This is a particularly good place for kids with many hands on type of features. There was a free 55 minute film, “Terror Nullius”, showing during my visit. The film was profoundly...
Just had dinner with my sister in law at this intimate little Spanish restaurant and wow! We were both extremely impressed with everything, from the friendly service to the amazing food and sangria. Definitely will be coming back to this little piece of heaven when back in Melbourne! Thank you El Rincon ❤️
Cute restaurant great service. Authentic French. But we came here for the crepes and we were not disappointed. Took us straight back to Paris. Haven’t had a crepe this good since my last frontage et jambon (cheese and ham) crepe in Paris ten years ago. We had the monkey crepe and it was worth the trip. This is a highlight...
A small place, full of people, with a well-curated menu. Delicious and authentic Italian food, with a bit of an Aussie twist. Very efficient service from a friendly staff (special kudos to Emanuele). Homemade pasta and desserts, and a cosmopolitan wine list.
Apart from being a beautifully designed, boutique hotel in the heart of Melbourne, it was the best hotel experience I've ever had! The staff were so kind and genuine. The items in the mini bar were included in the booking fee!!!! The breakfast was outstanding and the hotel room was exquisite. I'll definitely be back.
"Excellent value for money and generous room size"

Great place for business or holiday. Generous room size, dependable wifi, great breakfast included in room price. Hotel is value for money due to light touch service. You don't feel that you're not being looked after though. I have stayed many times and the staff are all familiar faces and always greet you with a smile. Great beds and pillows
We stayed at The QT for 4 nights. We really enjoyed it. There is a great bar upstairs that we stopped at every night for a night cap before hitting the sack. Our room was excellent, nice and large and very clean and the bed very comfortable. It has a separate toilet and the shower worked really well. Would definitely...
Had an amazing stay in here during school holidays. Great customer service from reception to housekeeping, great location as it's accessible to everything. Room's very clean and comfortable bed and pillows. Will definitely go back in here!!
We always enjoy our stay at the Alto. Staff are always professional and friendly. The room had everything we needed.the best thing about the Alto is that it is environmentally conscious. Well done Alto
