The original docklands of Darling Harbour have been transformed into a tourist mecca with entertainment for the whole family. Cockle Bay Wharf offers dining options from budget to upscale and million dollar views of the harbour. Young crowds gather on weekends for nightlife that ranges from salsa clubs to Dj’s. Families can visit the Chinese Gardens of Friendship or the Sydney Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The Sydney Maritime Museum and the IMAX theatre are also popular attractions. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a site unto itself, with hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars. On Saturdays in the summer, the city puts on a spectacular fireworks show along the harbour's shore and there are plenty of other free events during the year - Darling Harbour Fiesta, VIVID’s light installations and the Sydney Festival, just to name a few.
Based on a suggestion in the Sydney forum for travelers who are short on time, we visited the Wild Life Sydney Zoo in a few hours instead of spending a day at the Taronga Zoo. This is a good choice for anyone who wants to focus exclusively on the unique animals of Australia. They have caretaker presentations every 30 minutes...
Coming from the CBD via Market Street, you have the option of taking the Pyrmont Bridge to get across the water to Darling Harbour or take the longer but still scenic walk along the Cockle Bay Wharf and the periphery of Tumbalong Park.
Lots of photo opportunities along the bridge.
Took my visiting cousin to dinner and this place did not disappoint. We had the three course pre fixe menu and it was amazing. The escargot was fantastic. I had the beef for main and it was cooled perfectly. And the sticky date pudding was a great end to the meal.
Service was very quick without being over bearing.
ABBA Tribute Band Cruise on a Sunday afternoon/evening with a superb meal, excellent entertainment and top-class service. This was the highlight of our trip to Sydney.
Thanks to you all .
The restaurant was very busy due to its location in Darling Harbour, The food was beautifully presented, really fresh and well cooked. I had snapper (for the first time ever) and the presentation was brilliant and the fish delicious. We hadn't pre-booked but the staff were really accommodating and managed to find us a table. Glad they did as it...
Absolutely wonderful staff. They managed to organise everything I wanted in a 2 hr time frame. Room was amazing, close to everything. Can’t praise this hotel and it’s staff enough. Thank you for a wonderful experience
During our weekend stay at the Sofitel Darling Harbour we visited the club lounge. We received outstanding service by all staff, all to which were pleasant and helpful. This hotel is recommended to anyone looking to stay in Darling Harbour.
The views from the 35th floor are just amazing while you relax, wine and dine.
