The production site of popular Ottakringer beer brews up an exciting mix of working and middle class suburbs, Balkanese immigrant lifestyles, and lush patches of hilly woodland. The recently gentrified area around Yppenplatz and Brunnenmarkt boasts hip cafés and bars next to South East European delicacies at Brunnenmarkt street market. The dynamics of Ottakring become most apparent at its vibrant high street Ottakringer Strasse. At the top end you can feast on wine and local food in Austria’s oldest wine tavern 10er Marie. The wines are from the tavern’s own urban vineyards. Before you head upwards, make sure you pay a visit to the historic courtyards between Lerchenfelder Gürtel and Hippgasse. When locals visit Ottakring’s hilly green outskirts on the weekends they either climb up 31 meters of Jubiläumswarte viewing tower on Gallitzinberg, have a succulent Wiener Schnitzel at Villa Aurora, or reward their hiking exertions around Wilhelminenberg with a drink and a view from Wilhelminenberg Palace (now a hotel and restaurant).
We went on one of the observatory's open days - details of which are in German on their website. It is easy to get to by getting the U3 underground train through to Ottakring then the 46B bus which after a few stops drops you virtually at the Observatory's door.
The tour is in German - so many thanks to...
We had a tour guide in German. The young guy was very friendly but spoke with a very strong Austrian accent. Despite my begging him to slow down the rhythm of speech, he didn't.
Visit was ok, but I have seen better breweries.
The beer tasting at the end of the tour was quite good: we could taste up to...

"Best service and schnitzel!"
reviewed 1 September 2017 by JanelleParata
This restaurant is EXCELLENT!
From the lovely, helpful and very friendly waiter who helped us through the German menu, to the wonderful delicious, fresh schnitzel! Our first schnitzel in Austria and it did not disappoint.
We went here because of the reviews, and we are so glad we did!
The restaurant itself is also beautiful with a very homely feel.
We had been walking all day in the snow, exploring Vienna. We had wanted to try this place and were not disappointed. It is a lovely traditional Gasthaus, serving traditional and simple yet extremely delicious food and beers. Relaxed, no rush feel to this place. If you are exploring the Brunnenmarkt just up the road, stop in here for a...
This is a very typical old timer Viennese local where you can really appreciate the good food they have. The portions are very large and enough for two people, across the board from the dishes to desserts. It was the best "Vanille Schinitte" ( special Viennese dessert) I ever had and by the way... huge, enough for two people!!!
Offers a wide selection of local Austrian dishes (including wiener schnitzel, bratwurst.. But plenty of other more interesting options). Fresh mushroom dishes available on my visit. Plenty of locals had lunch, not a touristy place. Nice garden to sit outside. Had a brain with scrambled egg dish, which was lovely.

"Delicious from start to finish"

Spent a great evening here with family and we all had excellent dishes.
It's a long time since I've had a meal where every course got better than the last. Highly recommended and Nadine looked after us superbly.
"Perfect location, tram stop outside and very clean hotel"
reviewed 4 weeks ago by smashin99uk
Good sized triple rooms with three single beds as requested. Very clean rooms and shower facilities. We did not eat breakfast so cannot comment on this. Bar lacks any atmosphere although we were glad of it after a day on our feet. Location is great, number 44 tram stops outside hotel and runs frequently taking approx 5 mins to centre.
I stayed for approximately a week at this hotel - it was clean and neat with really helpful staff. The vicinity was quiet however there is a supermarket, bakery, takeaway, restaurant etc. all around the hotel.
We stayed 4 nights and checked out today. It was a very personalized experience and we would thoroughly recommend it.
The location is great - 2 minute walk to the Hernals Station for the S Bahn and the tram stop.
Room was good - we were in room 211. Small but had all facilities.
Ladies at the reception were very...
"Good and very reasonable priced hotel in a bit spooky-looking building"
reviewed 4 weeks ago by Milan D
We were planning to make a single day trip to Vienna. But in the evening before departure we changed plans and chose to stay overnight – in case we find a reasonably priced hotel. And we did. Hotel Geblergasse was quite cheap even when the booking was made an evening before arrival. Of course it is a low cost hotel,...
We stayed here for 2 nights with my husband. First of all, we had a problem finding a parking lot Thursday night. The hotel is old but very nice. The lady at the reception was very friendly. The room was great and nice, but the bed was not very comfortable, and the washbasin in the bathroom was cracked. Toiletries were...
