The production site of popular Ottakringer beer brews up an exciting mix of working and middle class suburbs, Balkanese immigrant lifestyles, and lush patches of hilly woodland. The recently gentrified area around Yppenplatz and Brunnenmarkt boasts hip cafés and bars next to South East European delicacies at Brunnenmarkt street market. The dynamics of Ottakring become most apparent at its vibrant high street Ottakringer Strasse. At the top end you can feast on wine and local food in Austria’s oldest wine tavern 10er Marie. The wines are from the tavern’s own urban vineyards. Before you head upwards, make sure you pay a visit to the historic courtyards between Lerchenfelder Gürtel and Hippgasse. When locals visit Ottakring’s hilly green outskirts on the weekends they either climb up 31 meters of Jubiläumswarte viewing tower on Gallitzinberg, have a succulent Wiener Schnitzel at Villa Aurora, or reward their hiking exertions around Wilhelminenberg with a drink and a view from Wilhelminenberg Palace (now a hotel and restaurant).
We went on one of the observatory's open days - details of which are in German on their website. It is easy to get to by getting the U3 underground train through to Ottakring then the 46B bus which after a few stops drops you virtually at the Observatory's door.
The tour is in German - so many thanks to...
"Beware of some taxi drivers in Vienna.
Check the meter before taking off."
reviewed 1 week ago by Carlousha
Just arrived to Vienna main train station and needed to get to my hotel which was some 4 km away.
I was going to ask for an Uber at a cost of € 8-9 but saw a taxi outside and didnt want to wait... thought it may cost € 2-3 more for a taxi. When we arrived after some 10...
We went there because it was close to a metro station and had austrian food. It was really tasty, the prices are fair, the portions large, the location cozy without making you feel uncomfortable and the guy taking orders was really helpful and knew English. The menu is not that big but covers the basics. Would totally recommend.
IF YOU DON'T SPEAK GERMAN - go to a different place! All the instructions are in German and when you don't understand you lose the experience. It is advertised as German/English and this is not true. The food is good and late in the presentation one waitress gave us a condensed English version but just not worth it. We had...

"Great atmosphere and food"
reviewed 26 April 2018 by Tamarafrock
I had Thursday evening meal in the restaurant’s garden. The atmosphere in the garden was relaxed and calming and the food (I chose the Goulash) was excellent. The waiter didn’t speak great English but a bar lady did and they ensured I felt at home and welcome.
I really enjoyed my meal and evening here
What a pleasant experience. The reviews are correct. This is a welcoming place that makes you feel like you belong. Our waiter Kasse was a delight. He made suggestions in perfect English and seemed genuinely pleased to wait on us. Definitely a place to visit
We read the reviews and decided to try the cakes here, in the afternoon at 15,00 o'clock. Most of the tables were full and the staff nice and quick to take the order. The cakes, Mozart torte and a cheese-almond one were very good. In the middle of our experience, a young couple came in with a dog that began...
Even though the property was a bit dated, the friendly staff made more than up for it.
The hotel was clean and tidy, and the staff were very accommodating. An easy walk to town, or a reasonable taxi fare. But also the train/tram stations were nearby.
The breakfast buffet was really good, and they had live music (classical) at the...
We stayed 4 nights and checked out today. It was a very personalized experience and we would thoroughly recommend it.
The location is great - 2 minute walk to the Hernals Station for the S Bahn and the tram stop.
Room was good - we were in room 211. Small but had all facilities.
Ladies at the reception were very...
Excelkent value fir €40 a night on lastminute mystery hotel deal.Very clean rooms. Comfortable. Good size bathroom. 5 mins from metro station. Good supermarket opposite for water Tec. Close to danube and 2 stops from bathing area. 4 stops from Stefansplatz-never had to wait more than 2 mins for metro/trams.
We stayed here for 2 nights with my husband. First of all, we had a problem finding a parking lot Thursday night. The hotel is old but very nice. The lady at the reception was very friendly. The room was great and nice, but the bed was not very comfortable, and the washbasin in the bathroom was cracked. Toiletries were...
Very good hotel, well located and friendly staff. Second time I am here and will go again next year. Breakfast is very good and the cheese ommelette too. I see you again next year when I am going to Wiener Wiesn again.
