Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
The Academy of Athens is one of the major landmarks one must visit when in Athens. On the left of the main building there is Statue of Plato with the Athena column; on the right, Statue of Socrates with the Athena column, Greek Gods and Philosophers.
It is very close to Syntagma Square. Furthermore, National Library and University of Athens...
We only walked in briefly but it was such a nice place.
There are several floors of tall stacks visible from the lobby, really neat looking.
There were a lot of people there but not overcrowded, except for computer work stations which were very popular.
Cool place to visit, and sees like an awesome resource for locals.
I loved looking at these statement buildings as Greece asserted herself as a nation: the university, the academy and the national library. Do walk and look at them to appreciate Greece’s pride in her heritage.

Located near Monastiraki, in the city centre. Warm atmosphere, kind and smiley service. Amazing food, especially meat. Reasonable price. They only negative, but negligible, is small space and tables too close together.
We just wandered around looking for a place to have breakfast and this past our way. It was excellent brilliant sandwiches, most friendly staff!!! And the best juices/smoothies. Wow what a great place to start your day in Athens I would recommend strongly!

We came to this hotel as a group with an organized guided tour. This hotel was chosen as being a boutique hotel and in a location that is very good to walk from (not a nice neighborhood at night). The rooms are very good (although we heard noise from the street), the breakfast is excellent and so is the service.
I had a very good experience staying at the Athens Tiare Hotel. The receptionists were very friendly (like all the staff in the hotel) and were extremely helpful! I was in Athens on a business trip for a whole week and the hotel suited my needs. The room I stayed in room nr. 514 was quite small compared to my...
I've just come back from a weekend in Athens, staying at the Fresh hotel near Monastiraki.
I tend to visit Athens every year around this time and have stayed in a few different hotels in and around the city centre, within walking distance to the main attractions. Fresh hotel is located about 5-10 mins walk from the main square and...

My wife and I have always stayed at The Plaka Hotel, but despite inquiring about 7 months in advance, this time we were quoted excessive prices by both the Plaka and by booking agencies. The Plaka has two sister hotels, the Hermes and The Athens Center Square Hotel, so we ended up booking one night at The Athens Center Square...
This hotel is well situated if you don't mind a little walk - 20 mins to get in to the city centre (safe at night to walk around).
We had a superior room, which was a good size for the 5 nights were there. The bed was comfortable and although on a busy road wasn't very noisy. The shower was...
