Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
This museum is perhaps more for those who seek a deeper dive into the life of the ancient Mediterranean, but it has a lot more than coins to offer. First, the house is really cool (and centrally located) -- 19th century luxury built by Schliemann, the German entrepreneur who electrified Europe with his (disruptive) digs at Mycenae and Troy. But...
Being prior US Army, I show respect to all countries service members and applaud those guarding the Tomb. Although disappointing hearing all the noise I did, I can’t do anything about that but it was a beautiful 4-5 minute ceremony so if you get a chance, please check it out!!
This was the place I visited first before heading to the Acropolis. Also the best place to get the combined tickets too as it is less busy. The temple is awesome to look at and next to Hadrian's Arch. Maximum time spent here was 20 minutes
"It’s hard to rate a subway station, when your goals are mixed"
reviewed 2 weeks ago by Stephen B
We went here, since we were walking around Athens, to see ruins that had been discovered when the subway was built, not so long ago. No one knew what we were asking about.
But as a subway station, it was just fine: clearly marked and we got to our destination without any trouble. And at that destination, we did find...
We chose this restaurant because tripadvisor revies.
At first the service was awesome. The waiter made us laugh and told lot of things about the greedients that they use. Was super friendly. He made us choise halloumi salad and pie of today and share the food. The food was best food that we had in Greece. The food was made...
"A Meat-eater & Vegetarian's feast with a view to match"

I had reached out to the restaurant's team prior to our stay at the GB. I wanted to ensure they were aware of our special dietary needs (I am a vegetarian and my husband is allergic to pork and lamb). The restaurant returned an e-mail acknowledging our requests and stating that the chef has been notified of our dietary restrictions...
If you are looking for real homemade ice cream in Athens there unfortunately not that many choices... BUT this place is actually very good. Located meters away from Syntagma square, easily to find it from the MANY people waiting in line to get their gelato. Amarena (wild cherry)is a favorite but has many different and interesting tastes .
This was a great place to eat. We went as a family and we enjoyed it so much- the service was awesome and quick: the food was fantastic, the waiters and were polite and friendly- we enjoyed this place so much. We would always go back!
wonderful location, in the heart of Athens, and a simple walk from the main square so don't need a taxi!
My son and I stayed in the two bed suite, and it was perfect. Staff are very friendly, accommodating and extremely helpful. Recommended great restaurants for lunch and dinner locations with different options and directions depending on what we wanted...
We only stayed here for 2 quick nights (barely one full day in Athens before jetting to Mykonos) but really enjoyed the hotel. A few things to note:
- the staff was pleasant, super helpful and quite attentive.
- the location is excellent, a short 15 min walk from the Acropolis and around 5 for the Temple of Olympus Zeus....
This hotel is truly the best place to stay in Athens. Breakfast at the rooftop restaurant is breathtaking, the staff is amazing, and the location can't be beat. You can walk to everything, Plaka, Acropolis, the best parts of the city.
Only problem was checking in. On a Saturday morning in peak season we had to wait for our room,...
