Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
Syntagma is the heart of modern Athens and the political centre. The national gardens nearby are a nice resting point with a row of high palm trees. But we also came here to see the changing of the guards. It's a bit funny to see, but we heard that it is really an honor for the soldiers who may do...
Don't worry if you can't read Greek characters, this station just like others offer multilingual guidance. Sometimes you can also find staff standing next to ticket machines ready to help you. Don't hesitate to ask, they speak English well.
All purchases are in Euro only.
We stopped here because we just wanted a quick bite for lunch. We had nachos to share and they were very good, certainly enough for 2 people and better than I have had in lots of places. Other food looked good, large servings.
Good value, although beer slightly higher than other places.
Excellent and attentive service at the table. A roof top with an amazing view of the Acropolis. Unfortunately it was too cold and the roof top was closed up. Love to return in summer for another experience
We got the chance to stay in the MET34 Athens Hotel on our trip around Greece and I cannot imagine a more perfect hotel to stay in. It is perfectly located within walking distance of the main Syntagma Square so the Metro is easily accessible, but you are steps away from Plaka, an easy 10 minute walk to the Acropolis...
Centrally located. Just a block from the main Syntagma square in Athens. 30-40 minutes from the airport. A 15-20 minutes walk to the Acropolis through Plaka. Clean , modern rooms. Hospitable staff. Entrance is through a passage way of a restaurant though.
Excellent breakfast. A few things made to order.
I would like to thank Kalliope who helped me reconnect with wifi after a few frustrating days and all the staff working at the reception desk and the restaurants. Everyone deserves an A+ for great service.
This is a lovely hotel, with breathtaking views from the restaurant and excellent breakfast buffet.
However please ask for rooms not facing the inner...

We recently stayed at King George on two separate occasions and enjoyed both visits tremendously. Our room was lovely and well appointed. The front desk team provided us with great suggestions for dining, shopping and arranged for a wonderful private guide. Our guide gave us a close-up view of all things Athens and escorted us to the major tourist sites...
