A visit to Amsterdam’s Eastern Docklands presents the opportunity to marvel at its many modern architectural masterpieces like the Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam and the beguiling Python Bridge while taking in its scenic waterfront with its trendy assortment of cafés, restaurants, bars, and clubs. Here in this post-industrial (though in some parts still very much presently industrial) neighborhood, you’ll find a smart selection of cool galleries and shops as well as the kid-friendly Science Center NEMO and the National Maritime Museum.
Eat, see, and stay in Eastern Docklands (Oostelijk Havengebied)
My husband was a Marine. I'm a landlubber and arranged for us to go to this museum to please him. I had a wonderful time too. My favorite was the royal "barge" which was all white, grey and gold gilt - even the oars. The replica of an East Indies Cargo ship was also fascinating, and it was fun to...
We (2 adults) spent around 2 hours with the many hands-on activities. We could have spent more time. There are activities for adults, young and old and of course children. With a family that has children you should probably spend at least 3 to 4 hours to get full enjoyment.
The overall experience rates a “good” - 3.75 out of...
We took a tram from Centraal Station out to visit this bridge, and then had a bit of a walk to get to it from the tram stop, but it was all worthwhile.
My wife and I love to visit things that are a bit different, unusual, and off the beaten track, and this visit was no exception!
To be fair, most of the KNSM island is interesting just architecturally speaking. The IJ side of the island is pretty boring, except for the water views, good for dog walking or running. With the exception of the quay crane B&B, which is kind of funny. When coming up to the end of the Surinamekade, one has a great view...
"Quiet, relaxed and friendly place with delicious food"

This little cafe is an oasis of calm, with nice, simple decor giving it a warm, bright atmosphere, gorgeous food and a friendly welcome. I had the Pumpkinlicious flatbread, which was absolutely delicious and also felt very healthy (bonus!), and an oat-milk latte which was also very nice.
This would be a great brunch place for vegans - there were...
If you like great food combined with attentive, professional service then this is the place to go to! While attending the restaurant they were having a russian inspired menu and it tasted delicious. You can choose from a menu or a la carte, and we ordered 3 items each which was enough for 2. Service was excellent and while visiting...
Really fantastic place - the staff are properly friendly and genuine and the food exceeds all expectations - really brilliant experience and highly recommended - Frank is a really cool guy too!! - well done guys
We stumbled upon by chance with this place. Decoration and atmosphere makes this place unique. You can sit whether indoor or outdoors to enjoy the views. Waitresses fairly professional and cool, sticking to the place's atmosphere.
Hotel Jakarta is a clean, modern, new hotel just north of Amsterdam-Centrum on Java-Eiland. The hotel appears to be recently built. The location is nice because it offers easy access to Amsterdam's more touristy areas by foot, bike, or public transportation, but it is far enough away that you can avoid those crowds, if desired.
Inside, the rooms are accessed...
Stayed at this hotel and the location was better than we thought. Very short walk to the tram and a couple stops to City Center. The hotel room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast is included and the the selection was fresh and above average for a hotel breakfast. The lobby staff was very helpful and courteous. It was a pleasant...
"Great location near the tram and 8 minute walk to central square"

The Movenpick was selected by Viking and there were some pro's and cons. Very nice hot breakfast buffet in the morning -- everything except pancakes and waffles. They had a small chocolate candy bar each evening with maybe 10 kinds of chocolate -- it was popular! Rooms were comfortable and the location is great. They had plenty of USB ports....
"Great hotel shame all the quirky rooms now removed"

We booked based on concept however those rooms now removed Even so we had a clean room fresh sheets and towels daily , staff were helpful and the location ideal for us with the #7 tram stop outside Food a bit pricey and limited but overall a lovely stay
We wanted to experience how it felt to stay in a botel.
It said early check in but the host told us by early check in she meant that we could keep only our bags. Couldn’t understand the logic.
Extremely tiny rooms. Good place if you are trying to just crash in the night.
