Hotels near Lokrum Island

Lokrum Island, home to a botanical garden, salt lake, and Benedictine monastery dating back at least to 1023, is a great escape from the bustle of Dubrovnik. Travelers and locals alike visit this island for its idyllic walking paths, natural swimming pools, and colorful peacocks. It’s also popular among Game of Thrones fans as the filming location for Qarth. A perfect day trip, boats regularly leave from Dubrovnik's Old Town port and take just 15 minutes to get to Lokrum. An additional entrance fee is required on the island. Lokrum is busiest in the summer vacation months of July and August. – Tripadvisor

Great spot away from crowds in Dubrovnik
A wonderful spot to spend a few hours away from the crowds of Dubrovnik. A 10 minute ferry ride to this lovely oasis with plenty to do. Swim in the Dead Sea, visit the Monastery and sit in the real Iron Throne from the Game of Thrones, explore the botanical gardens, climb the rock formations or take a hike to Fort Royal for hilltop views. Take a break to enjoy lunch or a beverage at one of the outdoor restaurants on the island as you watch the peacocks roam. A delightful spot worth exploring.

    Relax and chill
Very easy quick and pleasant trip. Good directions around the island. Monastery is pleasant and the history, as is the fort( a bit of a climb, but worth it) . A nice olive Grove to walk in . Take your swimmers as the dead sea is a lovely place to take a dip. About 100mtrs before this next to the toilets there are outdoor changing rooms. Lots of very friendly peacocks. I would give yourself 3 hours at least for a leisurely visit

    Beautiful and quiet nature
Very simple, short, and enjoyable journey. Detailed maps of the island. The fort (a little bit of a climb, but worth it) and the monastery both have interesting histories. a lovely olive grove to stroll around. Bring your swimming gear; the dead sea is a beautiful spot to swim. There are outdoor changing rooms just a hundred metres away, near to the restrooms. numerous, incredibly amiable peacocks. For a leisurely visit, I recommend giving yourself at least three hours.

A must visit when in Dubrovnik!
A short boat ride from Old Town, this place should definitely be on your bucket list. Steeped with history, and stories of curses, this island is so interesting. We didn't realise it would be overun with rabbits and peacocks! If you climb to the top of the island you will be rewarded with stunning views of the adriatic. If you are a game of thrones fan you will love it even more as you can sit on the iron throne and visit some filming locations. There is also a really great restaurant on the island which I can't remember the name of but it does amazing pizza.

Beautiful place, very close to the city
Definitely worth taking the 15 minute boat trip to this beautiful island. The boats depart every half an hour and you can get tickets from the old port. Remember if you have a Dubrovnik Pass to scan this and you will get discount on the price. Despite the boatloads of tourists arriving, the island is peaceful and serene in parts. The views are stunning. My top tip - when you disembark, turn right (most people go left) and walk anti-clockwise around the island. You still see everything but there are fewer people on this path. You also reach the lagoon later on, when you are ready for a swim. Take a picnic (plenty of places to eat this) or visit one of the cafe/snack bars (prices reasonable).

    Lokrum was a favorite spot
Loved this spot of paradise. We started with a coffee in the garden near the pier and enjoyed the walks, the history, the ruins, the gardens, and the peacocks all over the island. We found a wonderful spot to swim. Wear your tennis shoes as it's rocky, but the water is perfect, clean, and clear and I stayed in the water far longer than intended. We took the first boat from Dubrovnik to beat the crowds. That was a good idea...we had the island to ourselves for the first hours. There is food on the island, but we enjoyed our packed lunch while overlooking the Adriatic.

Entrance fee to the island is not well advertised
Lokrum is a beautiful and fascinating island and, in spite of the large number of visitors who arrive there, it is possible to find peaceful areas. My husband and I and our 2 friends are very pleased that we took the boat trip from Cavtat to explore the monastery and the Botanical Gardens. We enjoyed the walk to the unusual Dead Sea. We also appreciated the Game of Thrones exhibition and the opportunity to view (and sit on) the iron throne. However, on arrival, we were surprised to learn that there is price to enter the island and we felt that 27 euros per person was excessive. This could come as a shock for a family,if they have not budgeted for an entrance fee, after paying for the boat trip.

    Beautiful Island just off Dubrovnik.
A quick boat ride from the Old Harbour at Dubrovnik to this beautiful little island. Full of peacocks and rocky beaches. Botanical gardens with little bars for snacks and drinks. Well supplied with restrooms. Would recommend visiting in low season as it might not be everyone’s cup of tea when busy!

    Lokrum Island Throne and Peacocks
Beautiful island. Lots of walking. It isn't really well signed so you can get a bit lost. Has beaches but not with sand, large outcrops of rocks. Great place for a day getaway and picnic. Botanical garden. The throne from Gamebof Thrones is in the monastery and is free to sit on and take photos. Wild peacocks are all over the island. It is a short ferry ride from Dubrovnik. 10 minutes. Be sure to find out the story of the island and why no one lives on it!

    Lovely scenic walk
Beautiful unspoilt island. Spent a lovely 3 hours walking the scenic paths. Steep climb to the fort at the top but worth it for the views. No smoking on the island which even as a smoker I coped with for three hours ! Although disappointed to see cigarette butts around so not sure it’s enforced. Game of Thrones exhibition in the monastery / museum and a replica iron throne! So many peacocks too! Discounted ticket price with the Dubrovnik pass. Lovely way to spend a quiet morning or afternoon.

  • Banje Beach Hotels
With beautiful blue water and great panoramic views of the Old Town and Lokrum Island, Banje Beach is one of the Dubrovnik’s most popular spots amongst locals and travelers. Soak up the sun on the golden sand or get your heart racing on one of the beach’s jet skis or water tubes. The beach is also home to a selection of restaurants and cafés on the waterfront so you don't have to go far to grab a bite or recharge in the shade. If you’re looking for a cocktail or two, head to the beach club, which becomes a busy nightclub at sundown. – Tripadvisor

  • Lopud Island Hotels
The atmosphere on Lopud Island is peaceful and relaxing, in part due to absence of cars on the island. Grab yourself a buggy taxi to the Sunj sand beach, or opt for a scenic half an hour walk. Relax in a hammock sipping on a cocktail, before checking out the restaurants, bakeries, and souvenir shops along the promenade. Lopud Island is often visited as part of a three-island tour, or as a day trip via ferry from Dubrovnik. For the best weather, time your visit between June and September. – Tripadvisor

  • Sveti Jakov Beach Hotels
This local favorite isn’t as well-known as Banje Beach, but offers the same splendid views. Tucked in a hidden bay to the east of Dubrovnik Old Town, Sveti Jakov (St. Jacob) Beach is surrounded by majestic cliffs and turquoise waters. The beach is covered with fine pebbles, so water shoes are recommended. A cozy beach bar and restaurant will sate any hunger pangs, and there are also sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent. After a day of snorkeling, diving, or sunbathing, climb a steep staircase to reach the historic Church of St. Jacob, after which the beach is named. – Tripadvisor
