Hotels near Tallinn Town Hall

The oldest surviving and the only intact gothic Town Hall in Northern Europe. Dating from the late 13th century, it was first mentioned in 1322 and completed in its present size in 1404. Today the Town Hall performs its historical function as the venue for festive ceremonies and public concerts. The colourful vaults, murals and tapestries reflect the wealth of the Hanseatic town. Rarest of all are the medieval benches depicting Tristan and Isolde, Samson and Delilah etc. The carved frieze in the Council Chamber is one of the finest examples of Baroque in Estonia. The height of the medieval bell tower is 64 metres. The bell chamber is at the height of 34 metres.

    The symbol of the city
Tallinn Town Hall is Gothic in style, but has a history as old as the city and in fact, as the city consolidated and expanded, this building was also redone and expanded. The visit inside takes place along the representative rooms with decorations and gilded and colored wooden furniture or smaller rooms with different uses and more bare. Also interesting are the objects (such as the weather vane that was placed on the tower until 1944, called "The Old Tomaas", and the models of the city and buildings at the end of the route

    Take the Tour
This is a beautiful building to begin with. But the self-guided tour was well worth doing. Note that there are English translations of most signs. You get to see the restored attic. There's a film showing how the hall was built thru the centuries. The main hall is really special with the medieval tapestries. You can also get a combo ticket or separate ticket which allows you to climb the tower. We did not do that. as we are older.

    Historic Place
Historic site, even ancient. There are always a lot of tourists here. But I guess not everyone's been inside. And inside it's simple. I was honored there with other caca blood donors. The hall is small, a concert was organized, and further down the hall, where the buffet was set. Climbing the tower, no way to reach old Thomas, but from above it's interesting to see the surroundings.

Amazing private visit. Thank you to Tuuli
I loved my visit. They don't normally open for visits after August, especially not individual visitors. Only groups can visit and by appointment only. I contacted the Town Hall well ahead of my visit and Tuuli was kind enough to arrange a visit for me by appointment today. I am very thankful for this. I had the whole place to myself and spent about an hour there. The security guard who opened the door for me at my designated appointment time was also lovely and so very helpful. She even showed me a part of the remaining original old town wall running through the male toilers downstairs. The Town Hall is an amazing place to visit if you are in Tallinn. Allow an hour to see everything comfortably. The attic was not open for me nor was the tower unfortunately. If those are open you will need 1.5 hrs. Thank you Tuuli and the Town Hall for allowing me to visit this special place.

    What a structure!!
Museum inside the tower of Tallinn Town Hall. I found it interesting especially because, as an engineer, you can see all the work to strengthen the roof structure of the minicipio over the years., Still possible to touch the very old woods of the trusses. Symbol of the museum is the authentic gierrier that for centuries was on top of the bell tower and is now in the museum... who knows how many lightning bolts standing up there on top! Ticket for 5 euros.

An Interesting Stop and Dominating Building!
The old town hall in the main square of old town Tallinn really is quite special. There is no doubt when you are in the old town square it demands attention. Having approached the square from a number of angles over our trip it is easily visible from some way and up close it is just as impressive. As the only intact gothic town hall standing it is certainly worth spending some time to admire and take photos. That being said at the moment it is hard to get the full side on shot as they are building the huts ready for the Christmas markets

Tallinn Town Hall - Tallinna Raekoda
Dominating the Town Hall Square, with a tall tower of 62 metres, it is one of the oldest town hall buildings in Northern Europe. It's over 620 years old. It was built on the site of a one-story building that had existed for a hundred years. City officials worked in the Town Hall until 1970. It is now open to the public and is used for official meetings and concerts. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go inside. But I took a good look at the facade. There are two original dragon-head drains on the facade of the Town Hall. They have decorated the Town Hall since the first third of the 17th century. Dragons were thought to drive away evil spirits. On the Town Hall Arcade, you can see the neck ring from the pillar of shame on the wall. Deep down in the arcade is an image of Justice from the first third of the 17th century. On the facade of the building you can see the image of the Last Judgment of the 16th century.

    Keever Town Hall
The second, in addition to the Old Toomas, Town Hall swinger with a sturdy rose of winds and a depiction of Tallinn's large coat of arms attracts the attention of citizens and tourists, like the Town Hall headdress. Carved in stone, the date is 1627, when the previous one, the Town Hall kiver, was erected without reaching us. A lion holds the rod of the fluke.

The view from Tallinn TV Tower is unique in Estonia as well as in all of Northern Europe. Under your feet are the woods of Muuga. The captivating Tallinn Old Town and the glistening Baltic Sea in all of its majestic glory are off in the distance. When Estonia was still behind the Iron Curtain, this was for many Estonians a window on the free world - at night one could even catch sight of the lights of Helsinki. To illustrate the view, visitors can use multimedia screens: to increase the area visible in it or seeing what the place looked like in the past. It is a view that must be seen. And - experienced! Bus information: The TV Tower is served by city buses 34, 38 and 49 ("Teletorn" stop), as well as by CityTour and City Sightseeing tourist buses (green line, Mere pst - Teletorn). Handicapped-accessible.
