    Charming
Plenty of beautiful streets to walk around in. The main square with the old town hall and quirky statues lies at the heart of the old town. Most sites are within walking distance including the Bratislava Castle, St Martins Cathedral and Michael’s Gate. Plenty of cafes, bistros and souvenir shops in the place to chill out in.

    beautiful and interesting
The old town can easily be visited on a day trip if you limit yourself to the highlights and don't want to visit every museum. But that would be a shame. One or two of the side streets in particular have a special flair. Overall, the buildings have been well restored, and there are still a few "ruins" here and there - there's something about it. You should definitely wear good shoes. The older pavement is very uneven, and the newer pavement is simply badly laid. And where the tar has been laid, there are some pretty big holes in it.

Covered Bratislava in 2 full days.
Bratislava is good base to see the old town as well as build in trips to Budapest and Vienna. We took trips by coach (Vienna day return €16, Budapest 48hr return €33). Bratislava itself has nice restaurants and bars and some churches and the castle worth seeing ( make sure you visit the Blue Church). The open top bus/ mini train rides are not up to much so better off just buying the tickets for bus/tram at €4.80 per 24hrs. You can buy these at the yellow boxes next to main stops - credit card or cash. If you are looking for traditional Slovak food there are plenty of choices. One recommendation is Grand Cru - a tutored wine tasting experience in the old town and No 1 event listed in Bratislava. Go there intending to relax and enjoy nice wine! We probably drank 2 bottles of mixed wines and it was €36.

    Romantic long weekend
Visited a pub/brewery/restraunt called ALZBETKA. It is outside the old town, just a few metres from The Slovak Bar and The KGB Pub. Very authentic place, beer was fabulous (I tried them all) and the food was amazing. Went back again, and then next night again. Very good value, if in Bratislava again I will return there.

    1-2 hour walk
Got absolutely taken to the cleaners by a cab charging us 30 euros to go from the train station for the Old Town. Ironically, was 6 euros half way back to the train station - just shows how much we were hosed. Karma . . . In any case, the old buildings are so pretty. Restaurants and cafes cater more to tourists but still fairly tasty. Tourist information there.

One of the best old towns
This is really a lovely part of the city and deserves a lot of praise. I have seen many old towns and this one is one of the best. It’s full of character, and interesting sights and buildings. I have to say after walking just 20 minutes I counted 14 gelatos. All busy! Just a lovely place to explore and enjoy.

    Pleasant and Compact
It is very easy to walk around this small, pedestrian-friendly old town. Many sites such as the theatre, Michael's Gate, the sewer worker statue, and the Primate's Palace are all close by, as are many shops and restaurants. When we went, there were lovely Christmas decorations and some nice Christmas markets with great food and beverages. This can easily be explored as a day trip from Vienna though we stayed overnight.

    Small but cute
The historic center of the Slovak capital is quite small, but quite nice to visit with its colorful houses often home to the various embassies. Among the things to see, in addition to the castle at the top of the hill, there is the cathedral of San Martino, the gate of San Michele, the Opera theater and the Philharmonic building. Perhaps, however, the most curious thing are the various statues scattered here and there.

From Vienna, day trip to Bratislava is better by train than bus
My husband and I bought same day train tickets to Bratislava at the OBB ticket office at Wien HBF (Central Station) for 36 Euros same day return for the both of us. The Regio Jet bus alternative cost 37.80 Euros same day return, but they are timed tickets (which means you can't come back earlier, or if you miss your bus time, you'll have to buy another ticket; see attached photo). The OBB train is flexible, you may catch any train returning to Vienna on the same day; plus, the Bratislava public transportation was free with our train ticket. I attached pictures of the train, Bratislava train station and some of the Old Town. Bratislava Old Town is small, easily walkable and could be done in a couple of hours, unless you spend time at a local restaurant. About the train station, (don't go towards the front doors) you have to walk down to the long wide tunnel (underneath the train tracks), go up and cross the street to the bus stop to catch the bus for the Old Town. You return to the train station doing the same in reverse. We were always quick to ask for directions and people were helpful.

    A secret in Bratislava
It's easy to miss this museum housed in the old town hall. Its entrance is in a closed court that only serves as a passage between two squares. We realized it was the museum only because of a poster on the door advertising an exhibition that wasn't even there. Upon entering, we saw that the exhibition we were looking for did not exist, but we came face to face with a very rich museum that, in addition to telling the city's history in a light, intelligent, interactive, and very humorous way, also allows access to a panoramic tower that offers one of the best views of the city. Another interesting point is that the Museum covers a particular aspect of life in Bratislava in each wing. In one wing there is talk of commerce, in another, industry and one of the last are personal accounts of different inhabitants from different and unique origins Who went through the events that shook the city during the 20th century. We left the museum with a new vision of this city that is small, welcoming, but does not reveal its secrets easily.

  • Devin Castle Hotels
Located a few miles west of Bratislava. Devín Castle ranks among the most important archeological sites in Central Europe. Located at the banks of the Danube, where once the Danube and Amber Roads intersected, it watches over the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers. Archeological research proves the area was settled about 7000 years ago and has since then been populated by one group or another, almost without interruption until today. Already during prehistory, it was a fortified center of power. During the Roman period the first several brick buildings were erected here. The first written source on Devín dates back to 864 and mentions a “Dowina Castle”. The Great Moravian period saw the erection of a church with colorful interior wall painting on castle grounds. Throughout the Middle Ages the Castle was an important border fortress, often passing from one noble family to another. In 1809 the Castle was intentionally demolished using explosives. In 1961 Devín Castle was declare
