Hotels near Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum

One of the most romatic modern art museums in Europe- the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum- is located less than 20 km south of Bratislava. It was founded by the Dutch collector and patron of the arts Gerard Meulensteen and the Slovak gallerist Vincent Polakovič. Since its opening in 2000, the museum has arranged numerous exhibitions of leading figures of the Slovak, European and world art scene, including Karel Appel, Sam Francis, Miroslav Cipár, Markus Prachensky, Ilona Keserü Ilona, Rudolf Sikora, Martín Chirino, Vladimír Popovič and other artists. The museum has attracted thousands of Slovak and foreign visitors as well as royal visits and leading political, social and above all cultural figures. Its unique location bordering on three countries, and sensitive integration with the surrounding nature and the River Danube provide visitors extraordinary views of exhibited artworks and of the flora and fauna unique to the peninsula of art in every season of the year. The adjoining sculpture park features the Works of a number of artists, among them El Lissitzky, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Jim Dine, Hans van de Bovenkamp, Jozef Jankovič, Arman, Jean- Claude Farhi, Vladimír Kompánek and Rudolf Uher. A magnificent view of Bratislava and the mighty Danube offer unforgettable experiences at sunset. After the completion of the extension, supported by the Government of the Slovak Republic, the museum is a new symbol of modern Bratislava, recommended by prestigious world guide books and social networking websites. See you by the River Danube, friends!

    Slovakian art & sculptures
Really lovely little gallery in Bratislava showing modern Slovakian art. Cheap and well worth a visit. I hadn't heard of it before but it is in the old town and nice to get away from the liveliness of all the bars!

Great art, Shane about the cafe
Amazing sculptures with art which will suit all tastes. I am not an art lover but it was worth the 40min bus ride (number 90) from bratislava thru the villages and countryside. We planned to grab lunch at the cafe, but they sold nothing for lunch, just cake and nuts, most annoying. Highly recommended though.

Exceptional location directly on the Danube
A really nice mordern museum with sculpture garden south of Bratislava. The location right on the Danube is a bit remote and travelling by car was kind of adventurous. Parking is available on site. We also visited the cafe and relaxed on the wooden loungers right by the water. The museum is highly recommended for a day trip. Admission 10,-- Euro

Intriguing exhibitions, beautiful location, wonderful views. Eclectic mix of paintings and sculptures... great value for the entrance fee. Enjoyed coffee and cakes. Lots of seats out of doors from which to enjoy the landscape. Staff very helpful.

Very interesting museum in a fantastic location.
Contemporary art exhibition on an offshoot in the middle of the Danube where it widens dramatically. The structure with large windows is practically immersed in the river park. Although not an Expert in modern art I found the works very interesting and engaging thanks to such a particular setting. Exposure also continues outside along the banks. There is also a nice bar and a panoramic terrace. Low entrance fee, including free parking but with very high quality. We spent an hour pleasantly relaxed and intrigued. Bravo!

    Go !
Go ! We had a fabulous experience at the museum and urge anyone with an interest in contemporary art to take the short trip to the Danubiana. The space is large and airy with expansive windows looking out on the Danube and the museum’s sculpture gardens. The art is primarily from Bratislava artists and is colorful and energetic. Unfortunately, we visited on a rainy day and could not walk outside to view the sculpture garden though we could view parts of it from the windows. The staff were helpful and kind. In many ways this museum reminded me of the Louisiana outside of Copenhagen.

I really liked the whole experience. I liked the area where the exhibition is located and I think it's a good idea on how to present art. There is a restaurant near by. It's a nice place for a walk or just to enjoy yall's time outdoors.

    Beautiful location
The Danube Meulensteen Art Museum site about 20 kilometers south of Bratislava enjoys a beautiful location, an island in the middle of the Danube. It collects works of art predominately by Slovak artists but also temporary exhibitions of artists of European and world fame. It's definitely worth a stop.

    Modern art for everyone
On a fine weather day, an extremely rewarding excursion destination! On a small Danube peninsula, the Museum of Modern Art is located in a charming sculpture garden. The artworks are beautifully presented, the selection is so interesting and humorous. An unconditional recommendation for beginners, children and people who have not yet developed modern art. After enjoying the art, treat yourself to an aperol or coffee outdoors. Now one of my favorite museums.

  • Drink in Gallery Andy Hotels
What really matters for this place is the fusion of a gallery, great atmosphere and good drinks. I like to go to bars that have more than a “drinking soul,” so Drink in Gallery Andy is one of those spots. What is the most interesting about this place are the expositions of known or your artists that are changing on regular basis. So you are basically in a gallery that is also bar. The interior is very small and you will be happy to find a table on a busy evening. But the atmosphere is worth the risk and you will meet lot of interesting people who appreciate art. During the summer time, guests like to sit outside on the benches and enjoy the warm summer evenings with an interesting view. It is because this bar is located in the hip area around Zidovska Street, where you have a beautiful view on the Cathedral of St. Martin. One tip from my side is to do a pub crawl and visit other spots that are just few meters from Drink in Gallery Andy.
