- STM0041Bullard, Texas848 contributionsOn our recent trip to Amsterdam, touring the Anne Frank House was on our priority list of things to do. Seeing they sell tickets only on their online website on Tuesdays at 10 AM Amsterdam time 6 weeks ahead of your intended entry date, we set our alarm clock for 2:45 am (we live in Texas) and was ready to purchase when they went on sale at 3 AM our time. Glad we did so, the tickets were sold out in minutes. I would highly recommend purchasing the pre tour introductory program for 7 euros more than the museum entry price. Our tickets cost us 23 euros each. The program gave us a great understanding of what we were about to see from a very knowledgeable and fun presenter. Also, taking pictures inside the Anne Frank House is not allowed nut you can take all the pictures you want of the pictures inside the area where the program is given.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 August 2024
- alexclc99Tarbes, France410 contributionsWe went there in the morning to pick up our tickets on site with cash: know that almost all museums and even restaurants in Amsterdam only take the blue card. Here it was even impossible to take your ticket on site, the reservation on the internet is mandatory with dedicated time slots. No problem if their site doesn’t crash every time you try to pay. After 3 attempts we finally managed to pay. A changing room is available inside (free) as well as audio guides in the language of your choice (free). Toilets are available inside. It is forbidden to take pictures in the museum. The museum is top, plan about 1h30 if you really read everything. I recommend this Amsterdam must despite the fact that the staff at the entrance scanning tickets are useless when it comes to providing solutions or answers to our questions.Visited January 2025Travelled with friendsWritten 9 January 2025
- Katalin HLos Angeles, California42 contributionsA very excellent Museum and memorial place. It was very solemn, and touching, quite emotional. You MUST book your tickets a month ahead or the soonest the website allows if you are going in Prime summer season. Only book on the Anne Frank House website. It takes about 2-2-1/2 hrs to walk through. There will be tight spaces and it will be crowded. It surprised me how centrally located this hiding place was. The program was very informative and interesting. We also booked the introductory program, I highly recommend that also- it gives a perpective about the times, gives some more historical background. I highly recommend this Museum.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 September 2024
- CrazyCatLondonLondon, United Kingdom31 contributionsVisited with my 12yr old daughter and we both agreed it was an incredible experience. If you are expecting to wander around at your leisure seeing lots of different exhibits, you won’t. The house is small and cramped and you will be moving slowly, sometimes in single file with all the other visitors through a largely vacant house which was emptied by the Nazis and not refurnished out of respect to the wishes of Otto Frank. Most of the information is delivered via a very well done audio guide accompanied by video testimonies and remaining materials. Our personal experience was of deep sympathy and an evoked sadness which could not have come even close to that of the 8 people hiding in fear for 2 years in that small space, and for us that was the learning we had come for. If you are wanting to visit, 80% of the tickets are released online only on the Anne Frank House website exactly six weeks ahead of the week of visit at 10am Central European time. Tickets for the whole week sell out in minutes and logging on at 10:03 on the correct day we were not able to get tickets with the introductory talk for the day we wanted. 20% of tickets are released online one week in advance again on Tuesday at 10am CET. However, if you read Anne Frank’s diary in advance and use the audio guide, it is still an excellent and worthwhile experience to get the standard tickets. One of the best things we did in Amsterdam.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 April 2024
- LeslieBirmingham, Michigan222 contributionsWhile certainly not a fun experience, we knew we wanted to delve into this part of Amsterdam's history, and so glad we didn't miss it. The house is so well preserved and respectfully honored for what it was. I love that they do not allow any photography in the house, and the handheld audio guide was extremely helpful. It's also nice that they have timed entries so the museum doesn't get too crowded. It's an understandably somber experience, so I'd not recommend immediate rowdy plans right after your visit. We decided to do a canal tour after we left, so we'd have a little time to sit with the space's feeling and reflect on our visit.Visited February 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2025
- Anish SChicago, Illinois787 contributionsThis is a must-see for anyone visiting Amsterdam. You read about it as a child, but it is still hard to phantom how a family could live in such a small space for two years with minimal noise and no ability to go outdoors. The museum is beautifully set up in an attempt to recreate the Franks' lives. Note that they will likely not let you in more than 10 min early as the museum is always packed. You are also following people given the small space so it's always crowded. If you prefer to avoid the crowd, I would book the first time slot of the day. The tour will take about an hour as you walk through all the rooms and read everything. The tour also comes with a free audio guide, which is used for up until you go up the stairs through the bookcase. They do have a coat check. You can also carry a small backpack, but you will have to move it to the front of your body once you go through the stairs due to small space. Book your tickets early as they do sell out.Visited February 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 February 2025
- RobertaToronto, Canada1,900 contributionsThis is my second time visiting the Anne Frank house. My first time was in 2011. Tickets need to be booked in advance online. So I booked my ticket 2.5 weeks in advance. All the regular tickets were gone, so I paid 6 Euro more for the additional educational portion. Still timed but at the side door. When I got to Amsterdam, I found out from the walking tour that tickets are usually sold out many weeks in advance, so a lot of people do not end up having a chance to go. This was also at the heart of Summer vacation. Security did not let us go in advance to use the washroom, but it's not really allowed anyway since the washroom is after the scanned tickets. So the guide picked us up and brought us to a room to explain the history. It was 30 mins, then we can explore the museum at our leisure. It really brought another perspective. I didn't end up picking up the audio guide after since we wanted to scan our ticket to use the washroom. The house is as it was before without the furniture. Keep this in mind for anyone with disabilities. So the hidden annex would be tight with the stairs. Highly recommended as it is part of our world history. Also, no photos in the museum, but you can take photos inside the classroom.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 September 2024
- mtn1moma112 contributionsVisitors were quiet & respectful. It was like being in church. It is crowded and reservations required and are only sold beginning 6 weeks in advance. We wound up going 7:30 pm. Lines move slowly through rooms and levels but it brings Anne Frank and her father alive to the viewer. Impactful to give you a personal feel for how horrible to live a hidden life and then to be discovered and put on the last train to the camp.Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 3 October 2024
- J Dufty3 contributionsA very moving and poignant visit. The audio tour was excellent, and the whole experience was well worth the money. The staff were extremely friendly and polite, and the coffee shop was excellent also. Please be aware that you must book your tickets online well ahead of your visit- you will not be able to purchase them at the museum on the day.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 June 2024
- Justin R12 contributionsThis experience was done incredibly well. It was humbling to stand in the actual space where Anne and others hid for 2 years. I would highly recommend taking the time to attend but make sure you plan ahead because tickets sell out 6 weeks in advance or so! We watched the show “A Small Light” beforehand which greatly enhanced the experience for us.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 September 2024
