It's a tourist spot, but the campus itself has a nice atmosphere.
It is an active university and there are students on campus, but for tourists, the main attractions are the library, which is said to have been the model for Star Wars, and the Book of Kells, a treasure of Ireland thought to date back to around 800 AD. The audio guide, which can be accessed via browser, is available in Japanese, which made it easier to understand. It was a bit disappointing to see that most of the books had been removed from the library for restoration work.

You cannot visit Dublin without visiting Trinity - It's awe-inspiring
I was blown away by my experience. Trinity is beautiful. Our guide Paul was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, funny and informative. We did the guided tour and the Book of Kells experience plus library. I will never forget what I saw and heard, it was inspiring and awesome, and very entertaining.

    A well-delivered informative tour
Luca our tour leader was brilliant. He was not only very knowledgeable but funny, keeping even our younger daughter engaged the whole time. He explained the history behind all the buildings on campus on such beautiful grounds, adding some very intriguing facts throughout. Would definitely recommend this tour when in Dublin.

    Bucket list library
Trinity College sits right in the centre of town and you can walk in freely and explore the grounds. But the main aim of my visit was to see the beautiful old library so that's where we spent a lot of our time. I must confess that I have an obsession with old libraries so this particularly photogenic one has been top of my list for a long time. When planning our trip to Dublin I was disappointed to hear about the recent removal of most of the old books from the Long Room, but for conservation reasons it does make sense. The library, with its barrel-vaulted ceiling and rich timber bookcases is still very impressive as was the whole Book of Kells Experience which we purchased tickets to. This is a largely self-guided audio tour with a tailored app that guides visitors around the Book of Kells exhibition, the library, and more. If you're taking the Book of Kells tour, don't miss the last part, the Secret Life of the Collections, which is situated in a seperate building, around the corner from the main quad. It features some talkative busts (Socrates and Shakespeare among them) and an immersive digital display on the history of the Long Room. There are some impressive structures and trees on the grounds of Trinity and the audio app can guide you through the history of many of the buildings and leading figures. We would have liked to explore the grounds and buildings more but were short on time. We picked up a few souvenirs in the gift shop as we left as well as some good tips on the best local pubs and where to find good coffee - in the pub apparently (not sure if they were joking....).

    Interesting Tour
The tour took in a lot of history and unusual architecture, whilst our guide Tess was entertaining and clearly very knowledgeable. Exactly what you want from a historical university tour! We also visited the Book of Kells experience - this presented (what I would consider) some more niche historical background (e.g. history of Early Mediaval/ “Dark Age” illuminated manuscripts) in a very accessible way, and the “experience” side of things was certainly that.

    Historic Awe
We booked the full guided tour and Book of Kells Experience and it was super. Joe was our guide and he really added a special touch to the tour as well as being very knowledgeable about the college and history. Highly recommend this look at the iconic history of Dublin.

    Library closed restaurant open
We did not take the visit to the library, since it is under construction and you pay a lot for little. In exchange, we ate right there, in the restaurant of the Trinity students and teachers. The one we were in is called The Buttery, although I think there are several. For 8 euros a menu with a formidable dessert

Glad we checked this off the list
I'm glad we checked this off the list. The long room of the library was nice, but most of the books were removed. They did save some in the section with the spiral staircase and it looked like something out of a Harry Potter movie. We were able to see the Book of Kells, which was lovely. Glad we visited and had a chance to walk around the campus.

Great spot to learn more about Irelands history
We booked the Trinity College tour along with a book of Kells and were thrilled with everything we learned and saw. Our wonderful guide was a former employee who became a student and had a ton of anecdotes and stories to share with us. The book of Kells and the Long Room are stunning and I am so happy we got to see the library before it fully converts to a virtual experience. Wear comfy shoes and a coat in winter/spring!
