A worthwhile visit. Welcoming staff. Informative audio guide.
A 15 minute walk from the centre of Cork. But be aware that signs to the Gaol or moved to point in the wrong direction. I walked way out of my way because I followed a sign that was pointing away from the goal! Thank goodness for a local who redirected me. It is a pity that when I mentioned this at the ticket desk I was told "It happens often, nothing we can do." I too work in a museum and felt the reply should have been "Very sorry, it happens often. I shall get onto the council immediately and ask for the sign to be correctly positioned." Other than that, I though the two ladies greeting visitors on entering the gaol were welcoming, helpful and very enthusiastic. The goal interesting. The audio trail informative. As it was pouring with rain I didn't look round the grounds outside of the gaol. Well worth a visit.

    Very informative and exciting!
Cork City Gaol is definitely worth a visit - and I highly recommend the audio tour (available in many languages)! It has been impressively restored and refurbished with great attention to detail. And although it is designed for tourists, who often want to hear gruesome stories, the respect for the prisoners is not lost. We loved it there!

    Well worth a visit.....
Well worth a visit! It is a fair distance from the city if you wanted to walk it. Fortunately I was driving & was pleased to see plenty of parking. It is a fascinating place with it's history. I liked the detailed leaflet that I read while I wandered around the gaol. I was too late/early for the guided tour & I didn't want to try the audio tour. I would certainly recommend it if you are fascinated by the history of prison life.

Absolutely brilliant place and great visit....do the guided tour if you can
We are not usually ones for guided tours but we just arrived with one starting in five minutes so thought why not. So glad we did as Chloe was brilliant. We knew it was going to be good when she said if we didn't like it at any time, we could drift off. Of course no one did. She brings the whole experience to life. It really is a fascinating place and superbly renovated. Great displays in the cells , some of them scarily realistic. You can get the bus from town, about 15 minutes, and then its downhill to the gaol, and then just go further downhill walking to get back to town if you want. If you are in Cork, for us this would be a 'Must visit'. There is a small radio museum here too, which is very interesting too as a bonus.

    Interesting visit
Booked online for guided tour. Very wet day ..was going to walk but got taxi for about 8 euro. Our guide was Jennifer. She was very interesting and told us lots of stories about people who had been in the gaol. This focused more on 'normal' people in contrast to the poitical prisoner information that you get a Kilmainham Gaol. Less eerie than Kilmainham but still a good visit with opportunity to have a lone wander after the tour

    Prison past
This attraction is definitely worth getting on the must-see list. We arrived on Sunday morning and were pleasantly surprised that there was almost nowhere to go, so we could safely go around and enjoy the atmosphere without any fuss or queues. We were not offered an audio guide, but instead were given a handy brochure that helped us navigate the site and learn a lot of interesting information. Particularly enjoyed the interactive tour with the quiz that was offered to children (and not only children - we adults also enjoyed it). It added a fascinating element to our visit and made the day even more memorable. We also tested our knowledge through other games located in the prison building, which was very interesting. After the tour, we took a walk around the building and explored other parts of the complex. I definitely recommend this place to visit and also stop by the local shop where we bought unique puzzles depicting famous areas of Ireland. It was special, I'd never seen it before. Overall - a great experience that left a lot of positive impressions!

  • Triskel Arts Centre Hotels
Triskel Arts Centre was founded in 1978, and moved to its current home in Tobin Street in 1986. Triskel celebrates its Fortieth Birthday in 2018 and Christchurch is 300 years old. As Cork's principal Arts Centre our mission has always been to commission, present and promote the contemporary arts in Cork, and to ensure the arts are made available to as wide a public as possible. In 2009 Triskel began a process of re-invention, partly because Christchurch, a beautiful 18th Century building, was to be restored by Cork City Council, linked to the existing building, and given to Triskel to manage. Triskel also began this process because it is important to continue to be relevant for artists, practitioners and the public at large. On 15th April 2011, that became a reality when the new complex was launched. We now act as an art gallery, independent cinema, civil wedding venue and a concert hall. Guided tours of this historic building are also available.
