Funny visit to do, between adults or with children. We did not fall into the tourist trap of the tour with transport (at a gold price - about 188€): we arrived in Lampivara by our own means (rental car). On the other hand, in December, it is important to anticipate that the sun only points its nose for 2h30 a day. It is therefore impossible to reach the cafe of appointment to pay the cheapest possible (40€) if you do not have headlamps. Allow 45 minutes of walking on a marked trail. Otherwise, it's 75€, to do less than 5minutes of caterpillar to get us there... Dear a minute, but hey... Once there, after about fifteen minutes of presentation in English by our guide (French, and yes!), here we go down long wooden stairs to reach the area where we think we are goldsmiths in search of the most beautiful amethyst. The glance of our guide is necessary to find the 1st pieces, not huge, but they are ours!!! We end the visit with a tour to the shop where prices are prohibitive on some pieces, but hey, it's the game... It is recommended that: Two busy hours!

I found this to be more of a tourist scam and I would have preferred going on another hike in the area rather than this tour. We parked at the gift shop and walked to the cafe which was a boring walk considering some of the other beautiful hikes around this area, it took about an hour, I suggest parking at the cafe instead. There are compost toilets near the cafe just bring your own toilet paper.

A very friendly activity! My husband and I had the opportunity to board a tracked vehicle, an original and quite fun way to travel. During this experience, we met Pascal, who told us the history of the mine and shared some fascinating anecdotes. That was really cool. After that, we went to the mine, and the whole activity left us with a very good memory. I highly recommend this experience, especially if you have children. It is a fun outing and ideal to share with family.

We really enjoyed our trip to the mine and it was much more than we expected. The talk before heading down into the mine was educational and helped us understand the history of the area. I assumed the 'keep what you find as long as it fits in your hand' was a gimmick and that we wouldn't find anything but everyone in our group found lots and we have such special souvenirs as a result. The kids absolutely loved mining for the stones and the view from the top is breathtaking. The staff were also really lovely and helped us find the stones. Would highly recommend.

Interesting explanations and in French, Our Guide introduced us to the different types of amethyst and its extraction. We then went into the mine where we could look for our own crystals. Very fun activity but a little short for our taste probably because we did not find a big stone.

Great experience for the family. Something totally different for us to do as a five. The trip was well organised and the journey up to the mine on the pendolino was a great. The views from the top of the hills where the mine is located are stunning. Picture perfect. There was a talk before we headed into the mines which was informative and the actual amethyst mining itself was great fun. We all left with actual amethysts we had dug from the ground ourselves which made for great souvenirs. Facilities etc are basic - but you are high up In the Finnish fells so that’s to be expected. Would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time at the Amethyst mine! The guide Thomas was so knowledgable and made us all laugh! A fabulous experience for our whole family! Would highly recommend! The walk to the mine from the car park is also gorgeous! And the warm donut in the cafe! Enjoy!
