A Frankfurt suburb of about 20,000 just northwest of the city, Eschborn offers great views of the Taunus Mountains that lie just beyond. Many large corporations have constructed high-rise branch offices at Eschborn, including Deutsche Bank and Ernst and Young. A late creation by area standards, Bergisch Gladbach was founded in 1856 as a city district comprising several smaller (and older) towns, with a total population of about 105,000. The Bensberg Rathaus (or town hall, nicknamed "Affenfelsen," or Monkey Rock) is a nationally known tourist attraction. Baden-Wurttemberg’s second-largest city after Stuttgart, Mannheim lies at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar Rivers and is rare among German cities for its layout, a grid pattern (or “quadrates”) similar to those found in North America.
