Paradise by day, party central by night, Chaweng is a favorite destination for sun-seekers and night owls alike. Choose Central Chaweng if you love nightclubs, music and fireworks. Head toward North Chaweng and Chaweng Noi for a more peaceful stay.

Learn to dive, sunbathe on a sandy beach or indulge in inexpensive spa services (including amazing Thai massages) in Bophut, a beach village that recently has become home to many new hotels and villas. Try the main street for trendy shops and restaurants, or visit the Fisherman’s Village for more traditional shops.

We're guessing they don't have a werewolf problem in Koh Phangan, because every month on the full moon, thousands of people take part in the Full Moon Party's all-night festivities, including music on the beach. By day, you'll find a lovely island with coconut trees and plenty of sandy white beaches. If you're a diver, visit Sailrock for a spectacular wall dive.

Drifting serenely in the Gulf of Thailand, the palm-fringed island of Ko Tao takes its name from the abundant sea turtles that reside on its shores. White sand beaches sheltered by steep hills – some only accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles – and 300 days of sun per year invite long afternoons of lounging.

People visit Surat Thani because it's the gateway to so much of Thailand's beauty, especially its Gulf Coast islands. From here, you'll be able to visit Ko Phangan (an island best explored via motorcycle), Ko Samui (known for marvellous beaches and waterfalls) and the 42 rainforest islands of Ang Thong National Marine Park.

It is Beijing's fascinating past that makes it such a captivating place to visit. Explore by metro, by taxi or, in areas such as the twisting Back Lakes, on foot. Sites such as the Summer Palace, the Forbidden City, nearby chunks of the Great Wall at Badaling and Mutianyu, and the inspiringly named Hall of Preserving Harmony or Temple of Heaven provide glimpses into this great civilisation's staggering historical wealth. For more recent history, don't miss Chairman Mao Memorial Hall or Tiananmen Square.

Busan is Korea's second largest city.  Tourists often come to this region to hike and to visit the Buddhist Temples located deep within the region's mountains. The Beomeosa Temple, founded in 678 AD, is perhaps one of the most frequented temples in the area and is always packed with worshipers and tourists. For art buffs, Busan offers several museums and historical buildings. If scenery is your thing, try visiting the Dongbaek Island, or bird watch at the Nakdong river estuary.
