This is a must for any visitor to Istanbul. The history. Most of the historical attractions are located here, from the Blue Mosque to Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace Museum to name a few. You also have the Grand Bazaar nearby as well. Easy to walk and navigate. Ignore the ticket touts trying to sell you cheap tours and either do it yourself or hire a guide prior to going. You need more than a day.  I have been to Istanbul a few times.  Best is to split the days, do a part on one day and the rest on another or it will become too much.  Wear good flat shoes as most of the paving is cobbled and uneven. Sultanahmet Square is a lovely park lying between the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia with a large fountain in the middle that usually operates in the summer. I love sitting here each time I go back. Atmospheric. There are loads of restaurants nearby if you fancy a drink or a bite to eat whilst sightseeing. I would probably say not to stay in the area. Whilst it is busy during the day, pretty much dead at night.

If you love history, architecture and scenic beauty, Istanbul is a must visit. Besides, it's a kebab treat for non veg foodies. For those with a sweet tooth, the balkhlavas and Turkish delight are a sure treat. Shoppers, the ceramics ,carpets and rugs are unique and gorgeous and, of course the knock offs for every brand of bags,purses,clutches could reel you with the duplication of the latest original. Language is an issue but surprisingly, most of the people you need to interact with, cabbies, shop keepers, are quick to pull out AI translator apps on their phones to help with basics. Cats can be overwhelming on the streets, in eateries and even hotels . Don't feed them at all. You'll be surprised how quickly the solo will convert into a brood menace!!! Dress light and carry walking shoes to enjoy this beautiful city, both, the European and the Asian sudes

Travelled to Istanbul end of Feb We love the old Sultanahmet area. It's our 4th visit. If you want to see the tourist sights, mosques, grand bazaar etc you must stay in this area. It's a beautiful area filled with cobbled streets, beautiful mosques, bazaars, street vendors etc... Access around the area & towards other parts of Istanbul are easily available via the tram system. The marmary trains and buses are very efficient as well. Buy a travel card called the Istanbul Card. 1 card can be used by multiple members of the family. The grand bazaar is a must, busy and not for the faint hearted but a labyrinth of shops, alleys all tantalising the eyes, nose and taste buds. Visit the Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque, The Topkapi palace, and many more beautiful tourist attractions. There's lots of different accommodation types from tiny 3* hotels to opulent 5* hotels. I recommend you choose a hotel close to a tram station due to the amount of walking you will be doing. Make sure you bring comfortable shoes as there's ALOT of walking. Be mindful that taxi's cannot enter the road alongside the blue mosque so trams are the main mode of transport. We rarely used taxi's as we prefer the tram & buses. Food is amazing in this area. Something for every budget. Do try the delicious Simit, sweetcorn & chestnuts from the street vendor carts. A must is dessert, Baklava or kunafe from the famous Hafiz Mustafa dessert chain. We cannot wait for our next visit

What a metropolis Istanbul is. You really must have seen this. We enjoyed everything we saw. Despite the crowds it was very relaxed. The people, atmosphere really great. Worth going back to. Pay attention to the prices, because you can be very wrong about a cup of coffee. If you sit on top of the rooftop you pay extra for that. Further enjoyed

A beautiful town with a great atmosphere, where locals warmly welcome tourists. As part of their tradition, they invite you to sit down and offer tea and sweets, every single one of them. Istanbul is a truly charming city, and we never once regretted visiting.

The Sultan Ahmet District is a must visit place in Istanbul, you can feel the real vibes of Istanbul. Many historical places are located here like Sultan Ahmet Mosque, Hagia Sofia Mosque and other places. You can enjoy Turkish food & delights and buy souvenir from the traditional Bazaars around the area. Always visit during day time and avoid Friday prayer time.

The weather was very pleasant despite it being august! Very breezy cloudy weather with lots of affordable souvenir shops and Turkish street foods. We dined at a terrace restaurant with beautiful views of Hagia Sofia where we enjoyed classic kababs and delicious Iskandar Kababs. We felt safe with our children strolling the small roads of Sultanahmet.

Beautiful area to walk around and people watch. However we did visit in December and it was icy, as well as windy so could not walk around or just sit and enjoy the are due to this. Worth a visit with a little bazaar close by.

If you want to have a true taste of turkey I would recommend staying in sultanhamet district.most of the historic sights are located here and can be explored on foot . Hagia Sophia, blue mosque the spice bazar all located here . There is lots of hustle and bustle till late at night the local food is excellent . Loved staying here

As part of our walking tour , our guide took us through to this district that happens to be the heart of old historic Istanbul. It’s filled with incredible history, we learned about the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. The streets are vibrant, bazaars, delicious food restaurants.Most attractions are free but some have an entrance fee.
