This structure was once one of Ireland's finest examples of a thriving Great House and surrounding estates and was home to generations of the Duckett family, who settled here as major landowners in 1695. At the height of it's ascendancy, this unique castellated building was at the heart of a 12,000 acre (4,856 hectares) estate and has dominated the Carlow landscape for over 300 years. Now, even in a completely ruined state, the surviving towers, turrets and architectural oddities of Duckett’s Grove House form a strikingly enigmatic and dramatic profile, thus making it one of the most photogenic buildings anywhere in the country and a must see in Ireland to visit. The site is managed by Carlow County Council and also features carefully and sensitively restored original Walled Gardens.

Set on the spectacular grounds of Carlow College, VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre has welcomed thousands of visitors since it was opened in 2009. The €18 million development is a joint project of Carlow Local Authorities and the Department of Arts, Sport & Tourism under the ACCESS Programme. VISUAL hosts artwork from local, national and international artists in five different gallery spaces. Admission is free of charge to all of the gallery spaces. There are also a lot of activities to enjoy at VISUAL with various workshops and classes taking place in the building as part of the Learning and Engagement Programme throughout the year. VISUAL also boast a state of the art theatre which hosts a varied programme of music, comedy, drama, film and dance. The George Bernard Shaw Theatre holds 335 people and a full list of events can be viewed on our website or by calling our box office team.

Carlow County Museum is a treasure trove located in Carlow Town’s Cultural Quarter. Admission is free and is entered through Carlow Tourist Office. Spanning four galleries, the museum has a wide collection of objects from the county including the magnificent 19th century pulpit from Carlow Cathedral; the original gallows trapdoor from Carlow Gaol; the smoking pipe of Captain Myles Keogh, killed at the infamous Battle of Little Big Horn; a 340 million-year-old fossilised squid; the death mask of Kevin Barry, a medical student who was executed for his role in the Irish War of Independence; a display on St. Willibrord, an Anglo-Saxon monk who trained in County Carlow and is now the Patron Saint of Luxembourg and First Apostle of the Netherlands; items relating to John Tyndall, the renowned 19th century Carlow scientist who discovered the greenhouse effect; see a display on Carlow’s Sugar Factory and the conserved 16th century effigy of Robert Hartpole, the Constable of Carlow Castle

County Carlow Military Museum , is open every Sunday 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm since 2001. The Museum is run by a dedicated group of volunteers including local historians and authors. With many unique artifacts there is something for everyone at Co. Carlow Military Museum. We have many displays which include: 1798 rebellion, knights and armor, World War 1 World, War 2 Irish army timeline, Carlovians in uniform, War of Independence, United Nations Peace Keeping and a research area.
