Detailed Reviews
I stayed at this hotel for 14 days.
2 days hot water want working. The hotel staff was very nice. The wellnes was small but cozy.
The food was ok. The cook and waitors were really nice and when you said you have allergy they adapted the food to you.
I think the hotel was a bit overpriced and the cleaners were a bit annoying and a bit lazy I think because they asked if we need cleaning everyday.
Overall I recommend if you want to stay directly at the slope at Štrbske pleso

Firstly, I would like to say that the whole hotel is really lovely place, where you can spend your summer and winter holidays. Hotel is partly renovated, and the rooms are nice and clean.
+ The food in hotel is the best food I have ever eaten in my life. It has the best location, because it is almost on the slope and you can also do some hiking around the hotel in the summer. It has also own parking plot with a lot of free space, even in the evening. Great plus is also its own newly build wellness with whirlpool and 3 saunas. In front of the hotel is small square, where you can buy some food or souvenirs and cross-country stadium where you can try cross-country skiing.
- As always, there are some things I did not like, for instance: in the shower you had to wait longer for hot water, it makes showering not really comfortable because either you wait for hot water or you are showering in cold water. Moreover, one member of their stuff was kind a rude while talking with me, but maybe he had just bad day :), other stuff was really nice and polite.
To sum everything up, whole experience in hotel Fis was incredible! Even though there were some small minuses the accommodation facility as a whole was amazing and as a regular customer I will come back as soon as possible. Thank you very much. (Additionally, I would like to pointed out that this hotel has really big potential in the future, because in the past it served as a training facility for people doing sports professionally, therefore behind the hotel they have big sport infrastructure with pool, gym, table tennis and so on. I hope in the near future it will be renovated and put into operation. We are all keeping our fingers crossed for you.)

We stayed 3 people and a dog in an bungalow. They are pretty basic, but generally fine if you like to do hiking, travelling and not spending much time in. The bungalows were most likely built for the 1970s skiing world championship and haven't changed much since then, book it only if you like retro style.
Overall the room was clean, hotel took a great care of the dog (water bowl and food dog expected us in the room), stuff was nice. Hotel has a small but very nice wellness. Selection of meals for breakfast was rich.

Stayed recently at the Fis hotel. If you like door banging guests and noisy children this place is for you.
The staff are very friendly and competent, however, it is way over staffed and your plate may disappear as you lift the food to your mouth. As a business model it‘s out of date.
The basic room had a lovely balcony view of the ski jumps and cross country tracks amid fabulous Tatras mountain scenery. Ski in-ski out it is not.
The buffet is well seasoned and organised.
Some of the friendly staff speak good English.
The hotel fixtures and fittings have a Soviet period melancholy about them despite being updated. Soundproofing walls and dampening door slamming would help. As you would expect the urinals are placed too high and the sinks too low. The shower armature did not work. Bathroom door did not shut. Gym not open.
There’s plenty of hot water and the spa is recommended however if you’re expecting calm and tranquility think again. They allow noisy children in to the spa, spoiling the adult peace! It’s certainly a family hotel.

Hotel is probably fine, but the "bulgalows" are really terrible. 50 years old (including furniture...), not reconstructed, not heated, no servis there, for price 110E/night... Without chair, normal table, fidge... Cannot recommend, never more.

Group of staff members (younger girls and older lady) standing at reception, as if at bar. After asking for help girls were inappropriate and unwilling, lady made derogatory and inappropriate remarks. Message lady communicated was that they are money focused., not service focused. THE FIS HOTEL is without doubt placed in the best part of the skiing area of Strbske Pleso.
When it wsa built in the 1970S it was no doubt a hotel to be proud of and a pleasure to stay at ... not anymore !!
The unfortunate fact is that the hotel is literally falling apart in front of your eyes , and is in desperat need of updating and repair as it doesnt look as if it has had any since it was built..
The problems were as follows::
1) The reception area is very tired, and always full of smokers( why do skiers smoke ?), so if you want to preserve your lungs or are a nonsmoker this Hotel is definately not for you !
2) The Hotel boasts a swimming pool( broken down or unusable during our stay ) a gym( falling apart ) a pingpong room ( seen better days and above the gym) a keep fit room ( excellently equipped , but we saw several machines break in the week we were there which were never repaired), a sauna ( a small shed)), with mixed changing rooms and toilets smelling of and having things in which are unmentionable!.
3) There were large amounts of the hotel which were unused ... very spooky walking along deserted hotel corridors at night !
4) The food was buffet style and not much wrong with it as long as you didnt want vegetables ( they dont believe in vegetarians), or you arrived more than an hour after the dining room opened as all the food was gone or cold .It was also pretty much the same each and every day.
4) There was nothing to do after about 9.30pm as everyone has gone to bed. Even the bar is dead !
5) Noone in the hotel speaks English or smiles ! I really struggled to the point of giving up asking for a doctor when I thought I had broken my wrist.
IN SUMMARY ... GO TO STRBSKE PLESO , BUT STAY AT THE HOTEL PATRIAS !!

Strbske pleso is a marvellous place, especially this winter season due to heavy snowfall. However, it won't guarantee you a peaceful holiday. We made a hotel reservation in FIS Strbske Pleso because it's located very close to ski lift and it has various deals and new wellness. I made a mistake to choose this hotel and it's even worse for foreign tourists who must be shocked when using its services or trying to resolve any issues. Firstly, ski storage room!!! It was just an office space pretending to be a ski storage room. Skis and ski boots were carelessly left all around the floor, armchair, etc. If the hotel is not equipped with a proper ski storage space, the office should be arranged at least to accommodate the needs of such ski storage room so that people may put their skis in the proper place. One simple board mounted on the wall with individual barriers would help a lot but probably no one even tries to bother thinking about some alternative solution here. Do not buy any ski pass deals otherwise you risk going crazy! If you check in at 2:00pm, you get your ski pass not before the following day or even later. I was standing in a queue in front of the reception when a hotel guest was asking for his ski pass. Unfortunately, he didn't get any because the company which is responsible for issuing them did not supply them yet. However, there was a box office just opposite our hotel selling ski passes as usual and people could go skiing from very early morning. Another guest from Poland came to ask whether they could leave the hotel at 4pm as they wanted to go to Tatralandia. The receptionist answered back that it was not possible at all even though he offered to pay an extra surcharge for the extended stay. After entering our room we were shockingly surprised by the state of the carpet near the entrance to the bathroom. An area of 0,5 square meter of the carpet was considerably worn out. Is it such a problem to cut it out and replace it with a new one? The toilet cistern was not covered as there was not cover on it. Why bothering about that? As there was a rain shower head, one would maybe expect a hotel shower cap. There was a leak in the ceiling and plaster falling off in the bathroom as well. All of this occurring in a three star hotel. In my opinion, the hotel as such deserves two starts at most. I think one could get over it all if one feels he's on holiday enjoying his time and the friendly hotel staff is there for him to resolve any issues or problems. This might be the case somewhere else but unfortunately not here!! What a shame! At least, the hotel wellness is brand new and very nice. The dining room is small and the guests have to wait for a free seat at the reception. Paradoxically, there are more tables in café than in the dining room. These were all vacant at that time and they could have been used e.g. for serving breakfast. It would probably take a huge portion of effort so it's easier to let people stand in the queue and wait until they are seated. I am so disappointed. The things I pointed out may be rectified at an instant. But there is a need of a change of attitude to guests and their wishes or issues. Only after that the hotel guests might get good feeling.

Response from martin Z, Manager at Hotel Fis
Responded 5 Mar 2013
Dear Familie008, We truly regret to hear of your disappointment and I apologize that your experience on this occasion has not met your expectations. The hotel underwent the first stage of remodeling, in which the new wellness area was created and hotel restaurant and coffee were completely refurbished to offer all comforts to our guests. Unfortunately all rooms and ski room are planned in the second stage starting this summer. We hope to be able to modernize all our rooms in the coming years to offer all modern conveniences to all our guests. As the tickets are issued for the first day of skiing, printing them upon arrival at 14.00 will discard one day of skiing, Thus all ski passes are ready 8.00 am for hotel guest to enjoy skiing without waiting in lines. We will review all of your comments with our management team and address the issues where you were not satisfied with to improve our services for our future guests. We apologize once again for your disappointment and we thank you for your feedback. Kind regards Martin Zahradnik Quality Manager

Convenient location is all I could say that is positive. This could really be a 5 star review but the hotel lacks quite a bit.
The location of the hotel is really good if you're there for skiing. It's the only hotel that is right on the slopes. All other hotels in Strbske Pleso have their minibuses that drive you to and from the slops. If you've every been skiing you know how inconvenient that can be. Some rooms have a view of the slopes too. However, if you're more into having fun after a full days of skiing you're not in the best area.
The other good was the reception staff who were really friendly and pleasant. Unfortunately, that friendly and pleasant feeling disappeared as soon as we had encountered other staff. Bar and restaurant in particular. It felt like they were all forced to work there. I doubt it would hurt to crack a smile once in a while.
The hotel itself looks very dated in parts even though they completed renovations 6 years ago. Some of those renovations look very dodgy.
The food was really average. Breakfast and dinner buffet were included in the price but the choice was small and mostly uninspiring. Every time I touched a plate I could feel that it wasn't clean at the bottom. I had to stop myself from looking into mugs cause there was always something left unwashed in the corners (really had to live in denial).
The rooms were tiny. We got a family room that has a big bed and a sofa bed. The bed was really nice, big and comfortable (shame I couldn't enjoy it as my son kicked me out of it so had to sleep on the sofa bed). Sofa bed was above average for sofa beds. However, with sofa bed expended there was hardly any room for anything else. When you go skiing there's always a lot of stuff you take with you. And considering they sell it as a family room there's no room for kids to do anything in the room. The worst thing about is that our friends also got a family room at a slightly more expensive rate (12 euros a night cause they have 5 years older kids) and they got a massive room with practically separated areas which gives them enough privacy to at least do something when kids go to bed early. "Unfortunately, the hotel was booked out and there was nothing they could do." This is something I really wasn't happy about.
They also have a wellness and spa which has a few different saunas and a small Jacuzzi. It was a nice way to top the day of skiing. Also, they have a good skies room and ski boots room which includes a hot air drying machine for sweaty boots :)
The prices of drinks and food are close to those of ski resorts in Austria. Considering the facilities included and the quality of ski slopes not sure it's warranted.
There's also a small kids play room, pool room right next to it which is convenient for the parents. Within the hotel there's a table tennis room but that's in what appears to be a not renovated area of the hotel. The room is small and can hardly play it.
Like I said earlier, this could really be a 5 star review but the hotel has a few disappointing things that could be improved.

Response from Erika F, Manažér at Hotel Fis
Responded 9 Mar 2019
Dear Ch0gi, thank you for your review. The Hotel FIS was built in 1969 as a sports hotel for participants of sports skiing events. It has never gone through a complex reconstruction, we are constantly trying to improve comfort for our guests within the space possibilities, therefore we are also a 3 star hotel. We understand that many things could be improved, some of them are being solved - the last time we have furnished ski equipment with professional ski equipment and disinfection and warming of ski boots so that our guests have all the comfort they expect in the ski in - ski out of the hotel. We also had a winter terrace that extended our space for breakfast and dinner and for a pleasant seating with a view. We renovated the hotel rooms last year, and we are gradually trying to renovate the sports facilities too. I am sorry that you can not get to your taste, most clients appreciate the delicious food and the friendly staff. Nevertheless, it will be our pleasure to welcome you to our hotel in the future. +1
We choose this hotel for family vacation for its location. Hotel is placed in pedestrian zone with no traffic at the edge of forest so the air is nice and fresh on the way to vodopady skok. When you open the window you can smell sharpness of the mountain air. It is around 10-15 min walking distance from train station Strbske pleso.
Where you can find shops and more restaurants. There are many options for light walks with kids around the lake even accessible with stroller and of course many others for more serious trecking. Hotel has a small playarea for children next to reception. Also offers highchair for dining. Breakfast or dinner buffet has good choice and food overall was tasty during our stay. As per hotel room interrior it could use an upgrade. The photos looks better that the accual room but it was clean. There were also small stuff that was broken. Like door lock and wardrobe door. This should be fixed before the room is given to new guests. There was no kettle but we could rent one from reception. Staff was friendly. Overall we had a good vacation. We enjoyed our massages.
