We booked this ‘4’ star hotel for two nights to round off a nice week away in the Tatra mountains. We thought we would go half board and just enjoy the surroundings including the lake. We arrived a little early but couldn’t check in until spot on 14:00, okay no problem, as we arrived at 14:10, just to make sure the receptionist seen us coming but still elected to go for a smoke and left us waiting until she was ready to serve us. She was grumpy and certainly not happy in her work, not a great start. The room was fine and the bed comfy so no complaints there. We went out and on arrival back we went to dinner, we were hopeful of something nice within the four course meal. The explained that we were half board and the waitress just pointed to page of Slovak food, having lived in Slovakia for three years we weren’t interested in these dishes, but she clearly wasn’t interested in helping us. So we went to reception where we are told that no you have to have the half board menu. Okay no problem, we take a look and its a set menu, zero choice, cabbage soup, do not like, duck starter no thank you, pigs neck and cabbage main, erm really no thank you and jelly with sponge pudding, I’m 55 not 5. So we asked if there was anything else we could do, answer no you weren’t here this morning so you have no choice, well i sort of was but you refused check in? We left and went to eat else where, there are some great places around. When we woke the next morning we searched high and low for the kettle and tea and coffee, as advertised with half board, nowhere to be found. We went to reception, mmmmmmm okay heres a new kettle and go and get cups and tea from the restaurant, any coffee? No we don’t do that! Breakfast was excellent, no complaints at all, on arival the waiter handed us a menu for the evening meal. Interesting as usual cabbage soup, once again duck starter. Now a choice of three for the main, salmon, elergic to fish, pasta with broccoli, not very exciting but edible and turkey breast filled with goats cheese, okay something there to eat, pudding pana cotta, not something we like. So I guess we could at least have a main and nothing else. We opted to book a nice meal in a different hotel rather than be disappointed once again. So our half board experience ended up being a bed and breakfast experience. It’s a great location, but the hotel seriously lets itself down by its service and staff with a poor attitude to service and guests. This is a Slovak 4 star hotel, so if your from any other country you should rate it as a 2 star, certainly not unusual in Slovakia. No bottled toiletries, big bottles on the wall and just shower gel, no separate shampoo. Would we stay again, most certainly not.…
The location of this hotel is superb. It is right on the lake. Hotel has a nice mountain lodge feel. The lobby appears to be warm and inviting. Positives: 1. Superb location 2. Mountain Lodge feel 3. Cosy interiors (but rooms getting dated) 4. Some of the disches at the buffet dinner in the restaurant were very god 5. Very nice children's play area 6. One of the waitresses at the restaurant was very good Dont get her name thogh. 7. Matte (one of the receptionishts) was a helpful guy Negatives: 1. Staff need to learn to smile at guests 2. The lady who checked me in, just asked for my passport. No pleasantries, no greetings.etc. My booking stated welcome drinks, but none was offered. 3. No help with luggage or guidance to the room. you are given your access cards and brifed about BF and other facilities and left to be on your own. 4. Room lighting inadeuate. Need to add at least few more lights 5. Wellness area - can improve a lot. Sauna was ok, Jacuzzi was ok too. But the cold water pool was looking very grimey 6. Reservation team didnt know of the offers on their website. When I informed them about the same, they modified by reservation. 6. Out of the 2 mirror lights n teh bathroom, one was working and I asked the receptionist to replace it (non working one). She said it will be done the next day. Next day both didnt work. 7. Not much information was disseminated on what can be done around this lovely town. THough they had information about this in Slovak language. One of the reviews mentioned hassels in parking becuase the Kempinski and Solisko share the same access gate. Actually THERE ARE NO HASSELs in parking at all. The parking ticket that you get when you enter the complex is replaced by an access card which gets you inside and outside seamlessly. On the last day this card is replaced by a paper ticket which gives you a free exit after you have checked oyut. Overall - Its a nice hotel. Superb location and cosy feeling but staff need to up their game. Staff, some minor renovation work is what will make this place a great one.…
Our tour group of 22 spent two nights here. Unfortunately, a very full sightseeing schedule did not allow sufficient time to truly enjoy this stay. Located at an elevation of 4,432 feet in the beautiful part of the High Tatras, this charming timber and stone complex sits on the shore of a tranquil tarn (high mountain lake.) Our tour leader told us that the hotel had at one time been a train station. Glasses of sparkling white wine greeted us upon arrival. My spouse and I were in room 202, which was spacious, and decorated in soothing shades of gray. Although we were not on the lakeside, our room did offer us a view of the mountains and forests that extended beyond the parking lot below. The room featured two twin beds, desk, dresser with TV on top, mini fridge, wardrobe, and a tub shower. The breakfast buffet was adequate. However, the creativity and skill of the chef was on full display with the dinner we had in the hotel our first night. It began with an appetizer of melon slices wrapped in prosciutto with a balsamic glaze and a sprig of water cress. The entree was two pieces of chicken cooked to perfection, squash puree, and assorted vegetables. An outstanding strawberry trifle completed this gourmet meal. The entire group agreed that this was one of the best dinners we had during our 11-day tour. My only complaint was that the room was hot, and the lighting so dim that we could barely read. Aside from that, this was a most memorable stay. Highly recommend this hotel!!!…
This hotel is on the edge of the lake with magnificent views out into the High Tatra mountains. Every day gave a different perspective on the mountains including brilliant blue skies, rolling mist and even some snow. The hotel is comfortable even if not as luxurious as it's neighbour. It has a sauna and steam room although no swimming pool. The room I had was on the 3rd floor which offered the best views, but with sloping roofs also gives real danger of cracking your head on the eaves. There are two marked walking trails which go past the hotel and a pleasant stroll around the lake opens up the rest of this small town. It's a quiet location. Plenty of passing walkers and brides having their photos taken, but nothing more.
This hotel was amazing. hotel charming ,staff made it wonderful..I loved this hotel, restaurant and breakfast .We left early after our 3 day stay, and they packed breakfast for our journey. Love this!!
