The hotel and wellness are are really nice, rooms are spacious and clean, but it has some minuses for which I would not pay the high price again. Dinners were ok, but breakfast bufet is very poor and everyday nearly the same. The vegetables were old and cut the day before or maybe even before, the ham was cheap and also had the smell of fridge, so you could see it was not fresh. There was no choice of sweet cakes, there were always just one or two kinds of simple cake everyday and there were even not croisants. Juices were diluted with water or were not 100% concentrates. This is definitely not breakfast of a 4 star hotel. The standard room has a bath that does not have a normal shower or better said it has the shower that shoots againts the glass wall and you can not turn it or use it like a shower. You can just use it holding in your hand. And another thing I missed was the coffee and tea in the room. I think this should also belong to standard in this hotel cathegory. The marketing of this hotel is very unflexible. We had a special wellness voucher, but were not able to use the procedures and wanted to use the credit for other expenses in the hotel, but we were not allowed, what is a pity. This attitude does not make the guests to come back.

Wellness hotel Borovica is such a wonderful place. I was there already 3
times and I've been always satisfied. I love the cozy atmosphere of the hotel.
Staff was very polite and helpful. Room was comfortable and had a nice balcony. Food in the hotel restaurant was excellent! I liked wide choice of food at buffet breakfast. Wellness center was marvelous. Amazing pool. I tried hot stone massage and it was interesting experience for me. Fitness center was big enough with plenty of sport facilities. There was also climbing wall! I definitely recommend this hotel.

Hotel is nice, on nice place, with nice equipment. The weakness is service. Price is almost like in Kempinski High Tatras, but the service is like 2*. Sauna was 80C at the afternoom. Weather was cold and I think that is assumption that people will spend their time in Spa. We changed the room and receptionist ask me if we moved also the baby cot. (?) During the check out call the receptionist front of me, room service to let them control if we did not steal some towels or drinks from mini bar. This made me very upset and disappointed. And btw we had the most expensive room :o)

I was the first, who made review on this hotel couple years ago. One of the top was the restaurant. But as the years went by, from kitchen became the Kitchen nightmare. I was overthere two times and the meals were awful.
But this year I gave this restaurant a chance, because they have new "star" chef, who has been working with Heston Blumenthal in Fat Duck restaurant.
I do not know, but I am loosing the illusion about Heston. My soup was warming in microwave oven, as well as potatoes. The shame is, that kitchen is visible from restaurant, so you can see, how they prepair and mostly warm the dishes with microwave. And if you are not fully persuede, the oven is permanently ringing. I know, Heston is using very special techniques, maybe this microwave oven is one of them.
And at the end, probably the highlight of the menu. Frozen vegetables (steamed). In the middle of the season!!!!
So, Borovica and head chef Michalko, keep making PR, or throw out the microwave, frozen food and start COOKING!!!!!

Inconspicuous oasis of relaxation in High Tatras. Offering great rooms, food, wellness and personnel. Fifteen-minute walk from Strbske pleso.

We come back to this hotel almost every year since 2012, choosing it for both our summer and winter vacation in Tatra Mountains. Having experienced staying at Kempinski and Patria on multiple occasions, I still prefer Borovica despite a couple of shortcomings.

The most obvious one is its distance from Strbske pleso, which is not that much of a problem during the day, but since taking a walk around the lake in the late evening, with lamps lit up, is so beautiful, you are making a compromise. Once you had your delicious dinner at Borovica, you would probably think twice about dragging your full belly up the road for that hint of romantic.
Especially if you have little children.

There are rooms at Borovica from which you get a very nice view at the mountains, but if you are accommodated on the other side of the hotel, you have to make do with pine trees at best. In this respect, both Kempinski and Patria do have the upper hand. As they do in offering parking space in a garage, extra paid but very handy in winter time.

Being slightly hidden, Borovica’s location scores in calmness. The hotel is considerably smaller than its counterparts at Strbske pleso, which also means it is cosier in almost every aspect. Rooms are quite nice and very well equipped. Bathrooms offer ample space and quality cosmetics. Being a four-star hotel, it is not fair to compare it with the Grand Hotel Kempinski, but personally I hardly sense any difference in comfort between the two, notwithstanding Kempinski’s superior location.

I am convinced that you will be very satisfied with the dinner service, the menu always offers three choices and I can’t remember a time I would have any complaint about a meal. In the summer, you get to enjoy some courses prepared on a charcoal grill. During the day, the a la carte menu is absolutely perfect, though we rather tend to grab something for lunch on the hikes or in the chalet at Strbske pleso. As for breakfast, the buffet selection helps with a pleasant start for the day. The restaurant and other hotel staff have always been very kind and professional, which can’t/couldn’t be said about every other hotel mentioned here, unfortunately.

You can also indulge in tobacco and brandy savouring in the splendid cigar lounge designed in the typical English style. In winter, a wood crackling in the fireplace enhances the atmosphere. The lobby bar offers a great selection of drinks as well, and a few years ago it was extended to the exterior in the form of a couple of tables, which is highly convenient.

The wellness is a strong asset. The pool area offers a beautiful view of the neighbouring pine woods, and I just love to have a swim and then read the magazines while resting on a lounge chair and soaking up the beauty of the surrounding nature. The selection of saunas is excellent, complemented by a hammam. You can also have a jacuzzi on the rooftop prepared for you and observe the mountain peaks from within, regardless of year season. I particularly like the fact that there are rarely more than just a couple of hotel guests in the wellness at the same time. Very often you may have the entire wellness area for yourself, if you choose time outside of typical peak hours.

The hotel also offers a variety of spa and cosmetic procedures, so you know where to look for your better-half when she is not around. We have had a pleasure of meeting many remarkable therapists over the years here, very skilful and incredibly kind. The spa rooms are very nice too. My favourite is the cigar lounge.

If the weather does not allow for any activity outside, the fitness studio offers you a possibility to toil yourself in every position imaginable. The equipment is of high quality and the room has an outside view, and it is just a few steps away from the showers and the pool. There is even an artificial climbing wall of considerable height on the hotel’s south facade ready for you, and the hotel provides an experienced instructor for supervision. During the ski season, you can rely on hotel's excellent shuttle service driving you to and from the ski areal.

The shortcoming considering the distance of Strbske pleso is probably the only true weak point of this hotel. Although I know it is only my own laziness that prohibits me from taking those wonderful summer evening walks around the lake after dinner. But let’s not put that on the record. Otherwise I am having a hard time to think of something else. Hmm, yes, the wording on the lift’s wall designating the amenities on each particular floor could get a renovation, since some letters were missing. And hopefully some day soon there will be digital bracelet keys introduced, so that you do not have to think of a key card when going to the wellness.

This summer (2020) we were not able to get a room at Borovica, since we decided for a trip to Tatras at the last minute and all had already been booked out. Staying at another hotel, in a very nice suite with a magnificent lake view, we only got reassured that Borovica stays our first choice in the region.

My family and me stayed there for 3 nights. The family room was next to lift shaft so we felt like on railway station as regards loudness and shaking of room. We were disappointed with dinner menu as it was only about 3 meals and only 1 was vegetarian. Not to say about waiting time in average 20 minutes. And the outdoor jacuzzi on the roof was probably joke....
I am sorry but we somehow expected more from 4 stars hotel....

We arrived at this hotel planning to have a real spa vacation and were so surprised to find out that no one speaks English
One receptionist did speak a little English- The staff in the Spa NO ENGLISH AT ALL
All the information on the Saunas doors were only in Slovak- no English. Noone could explain to us the difference of the Saunas.
Even the staff that gave massages did not know a word of English
I would not recommend this hotel to any tourist who does not speak the Slovak language. We left after 2 nights instead of 3 nights
It's a pity that such a hotel cannot accommodated English speaking guests

Do not believe photos on their website. They are simply misleading, except of exterior of the hotel and a lobby. At the time of our visit half of welness has not been working. Moreover there were quite large spots of mold on the walls of welness centre and it did look very good.
the rest was a 4 star standard. You can get better deal for your money elsewhere.

PROS: Good food, Nice location, nice exterior, remote location (depends if this is pro or con ), fitness centre quite good

CONS: Long walk to Strbske pleso, Welness centre is dirty (BIG Problem), overcrowded parking,

After many experience- all hotel categories over the world- we can recomand this hotel .
Check-in: good service, (arrive 1:30 p.m.), all information they had in hotel system, parking is in near place, under CCTV control.
Gastronomy - absolutelly OK for this hotel category!
Breakfast: 3 stages there, one hot with typical hotel bufet menu, eggs, ham, suasage. Second with ham, cheese, fruits, vegetables, local cheeses&sausage , third with bread/rolls, mussli, sweet cakes etc. They have baby chair for our 2 old year son, quickly.
Room: very new designed, quality materials. We were in room with fireplace, call to reception and some man bring woof, prepared for very romantic time.
Check-out:very quickly, lady at reception has a sharp invoice, no problem pamyent via card.
The wellness there was great, we were there 2 times absolutelly alone, nice! :-) Many saunas and interesting procedures. I had a honey massage, really great, staff very friendly. Jazzuci on the roof - great place, excellent view to mountains, BUT 60 EUR per hour its VERY BAD JOKE!
Children club there is very nice, large, great idea!
English lounge - leather chairs, fireplace, I tested staff and ask for cigars equipment, all was perfect!
