The Turaco is safely enclosed within a walled garden and it is always great to arrive here and relax - beautiful flowers and friendly helpers. The rooms are well equipped, decent size and clean; en suite and proper toilets (which needs to be mentioned in a country of challenges). Wifi and electricity when the supply in town works. Just a... Negele is where you break your journey between Bale (coming from the north) and Yabello and is a must for birders because of the speciality bird, Archer's Lark. Apart from locals, I doubt whether anyone other than birders goes there - Negele doesn't even rate a mention in the Lonely Planet. Many of the rooms look out at the back... More

Stayed here as part of a recent organised birdwatching tour of Ethiopia. This hotel is primarily the base for anyone wishing to visit the Liben Plains, essentially to see one of the rarest Larks in the world - Liben (Archer's) Lark and the other key birds in the Negele area. The hotel itself was good, nothing fancy but clean with... More

We stayed here for two nights on our wildlife tour of Ethiopia. For what is supposed to be a 'newish' hotel the rooms are very basic. We had a double bed pushed up against a mouldy wall. The sheets weren't wide enough to tuck under the mattress so in the morning you were lying directly on the mattress, ugh! The... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and had no electricity virtually from the start, so no hot water. We had to ask for the generator to be switched on. Our room was good, the door to it partially blocked by a defunct fridge/freezer! The bathroom was ok. Our trip had organised for food to be cooked for us. so we... More

Please refer to my earlier posting on this hotel as well. I have stayed here for about one year continuously from early 2013 to early 2014. I can truly say that the situation at the hotel steadily improved during that period and we never saw any indications that this trend will change. The hotel has also introduced a kitchen and... On our March 2013 birding trip to Ethiopia, our group stayed three nights at the new Turaco Lodge in Negele; it had been recommended to us as the new alternative to much less-appetizing accommodations previously available in this rather remote location. In fact the hotel is still being built, my husband and I were put into a room which needed... More

This is the only place that i have found a peaceful, warm hospitality and comfy place to stay in Negele. I have been to two other hotels in the city and i can confidently tell you the visible difference between them. The accommodation that is being provided here is amazing...... If you get a chance to visit or stay in... More

Turaco hotel opened early in 2012 and is still under construction (Oct 2012) but the first two of three floors are completed and "open for business". We have been staying in this premises for the past four months. We have found this place to be the only reasonable accommodation in the town. The rooms are clean (serviced daily), bathroom on... “Our tour was pre-paid so not sure of room rates. They do not serve food. Only negative was no air con, although when we were there it wasn't really needed. A small fan would be a good addition.”
