We booked the cottage for a family birthday weekend with our family in the area. We drove 200 miles to be told that we couldn't have it as the kitchen wasn't finished and it was very damp. We wanted to know why he hadn't called us before we left for our long journey. No offer of alternative accommodation. Gave us... More

My wife and I dined here one evening in early September, whilst taking a short break in the northern Lakes. Located in the village of Threlkeld just off the A66 Keswick to Penrith road, the Horse and Farrier has an 'olde worlde' atmosphere (uneven, tiled floor, low ceilings, wooden beams, large fireplace etc). Its popularity as an eating establishment can... More

We had a delicious meal in delightful surroundings. The staff were very attentive and understanding of our 2 little people , One of whom did not wake up until it was time to leave, so she missed her child portion of ice cream! The place was very full but we were served very quickly and everything was to our liking.... More

Clearly only interested in the food side of the Business. Not particularly welcoming. We called in for an early evening drink to find the pub 1/3 full but all tables laid for dinner with reserved signs on the tables. We had to ask the maître'd who found us a small table for 30 minutes. We tried again at about 1030... More

The Horse and Farrier was my mother in law's favourite *spot* as she called it in keswick. In fact within a 20 mile radius. For the past 10 years we had been taking her every week for lunch at The Horse and Farrier. She absolutely tefused to go anywere else. Unfortunately at the age of 94 she passed away in May... More

We were banished to the annex across the road. Our room was above the kitchen, smelly, hot and noisy until the wee hours. The "en suite" was possibly the smallest I've ever encountered. All the junior staff were lovely by the management somewhat snotty.

We arrived at the Horse & Farrier for our weekend stay in the Lakes. We were greater by pleasant and friendly staff who showed us around our room. Room 4 was lovely and very inviting, it even had biscuits in the room along with tea, coffee, decaf and hot chocolate making facilities. We dined in the charming restaurant that evening... More

Having stayed some years ago, I wanted to return for a short break and was very pleased. We booked a room with a large bed and were pleasantly surprised to find it also had a sofa, really nice when you are used to having to sit on a bed to read. This is a Jennings brewery pub and therefore had... More

Stayed for a week in Keswick and found this pub on the first night. When you find something this good, no need to try and find anywhere else. We therefore booked our evening meal for every night the next week. Huge choice of food, never managed to eat all of the choices we would have loved to have tried. We... More

Small twin bed room, continuous noise from A/C system meant we had to keep window closed on 2 hot and humid nights (but could still hear droning noise) Tiny wardrobe with hanging bar which kept coming off its housing. No hairdryer but luckily I had packed my own but found the sockets were nowhere near the mirror making it impossible... More
