Travellers' Choice
A stunning pub with 10 rooms nestled in the picturesque countryside of West Berkshire, where the pace of life is just that little bit slower. Simple, unfussy, Michelin rated food, ten luxurious bedrooms, award winning real ales, roaring log fires and a quite beautiful walled beer garden await, all within easy access of Newbury, Reading, Heathrow and the M4. We are child friendly, dog friendly and accessible to all. We do hope you love the place as much as we do, and hope you will come and visit us very soon

Location and the old pub are great and the staff were friendly. However in 2021 it feels odd to be having to ask for a veggie roast. What arrived was a slightly bigger veg side dish. OK we will go with it. Then the bill. £14. Such a shame when the offer seems so much and the main roasts looked really good. The bill was reduced upon our request. It felt underwhelming.

A very relaxing and peaceful area, lovely room with a snazzy on suite shower and bathroom, all kept exceptionally clean. The food was good, with a massive breakfast! The hotel served its purpose to provide us with a nice mini break, away from the hustle of a city, and did just that. Newbury was near with lots of restaurants and attractions if you get restless.

We checked in at the Royal Oak having been impressed by the images on the website and other reviews. It didn't disappoint. The room was airy and light with crisp white linens, the bathroom newly refurbished. We had an excellent supper and champagne in the dining room and breakfast in the morning was equally good. The staff were helpful, polite and professional.

Our room in the cottage was large and relaxing with a garden seating area. Bed and bedding were very comfortable. The bathroom was large with 2 basins, free standing bath and large shower with plenty of hot water. We liked the Bramley toiletries. There re a few small things to be ironed out: the toilet seat slips sideways when you sit, on one of the basins the hot and cold taps are wrongly labelled and one of the shower knobs detaches. We appreciated the coffee machine but it only dispatched a dribble. Breakfast was delicious. We thought b and b was very good value and very enjoyable. Our evening meal was good with interesting vegetarian choices.

Had a fantastic weekend staying Saturday night, room was excellent bathroom both shower and bath. Although busy when we arrived staff were excellent, drinks in afternoon staff took time to talk to you. Dinner was busy but again staff were excellent, food was very good dishes were cooked perfectly and with some skill and imgenation, not your so called gastro. Excellent night's sleep and breakfast freshly cooked with qtly products shows the care the chefs and front of house put into the pub. Will definitely stay again.
