I have very mixed thoughts about Manakin Lodge. To begin with, I was arriving at SJO around midnight and wanted to go straight to Monteverde. Part of the reason I booked Manakin was because they could arrange an airport shuttle service for us since we were arriving too late to take the bus or shared vans. I asked about the...

that was a terrible experience ...we were two families with one kid initially for two nights booked through Expedia...there were none of the minimum conditions expected from a decent 1 star Hostel leave alone Hotel...no hot water at the sink...wind blowing through the doors and windows like we were in a tent ....LED TV SCREEN(as listed on their ad) is...

The hotel is at the bottom of a side street so it is nice a quiet. Most of the rooms have a balcony and those that don't there is a balcony available a few steps from your room. This is important so that you can visit with the"white face" monkeys that stop by almost every morning. We were with touching...

These were the NICEST people! The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had plenty of space and supplies. Hot water and decent water pressure. A short walk to town, but a cab is inexpensive. The breakfast was basic but fresh and tasty. We had a couple of meals there and all were very good. Loved the folks working there! Great...

We stayed three nights at this family run hotel, located a 15 minute walk from downtown Santa Elena. It is clean, has plenty of hot water, good free coffee and tea all day long with homemade banana bread. A choice of American or local breakfast is included. The two brother owners, Christian and Edgar, are very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable....

DO NOT STAY HERE! I used booking.com to book my stay at this "lodge". The options were double or single bed rooms. I was traveling with my grandparents, showing them the country. I booked two rooms because I was under the impression their room only had one bed. Well when we arrived and got our two rooms, I learned that...

I just loved this hotel! Upon arrival i was greeted by the owner, Chris, who not only gave me a map of the area, he gave me list of local places that were inexpensive to eat as well as brochures for tours and a tour of the hotel. My room was immaculate! I had a Queen sized bed, a refrigerator,...

Before arrival we were a little bit worried, as on other websites we read a lot of bad reviews. How wrong they were! On arrival we were greeted by the owner, who explained us where to go, eat (Sabor Tico the cheapest and best food in this part of Costa Rica!) and what to do. He also showed us our...

For $40 is the best place in the whole Monteverde or even the central Costa Rica. Just as for the room with a forest view is perfect and you can see the squirrels right from your queen size bed!;) As the city is really narrow it is just 10 minutes walk.

My girlfriend and I reserved three nights here. We like it so much we decided to stay another night. The two brothers who operate the hostile went above and beyond in helping us cordinate everything from places to eat, adventures to go on, and even helping friends of ours find another place to stay. (since Manakin Lodge was full). The...
