This is the second consecutive year to stay with Seizanso for my year-crossing trip in Kyoto. Althought the decor was a bit dtaed but I was impressed by the services and food last year so I have great expectation this time. It turned out to be nice still but not as good as last year. We stayed for 2 nights...

We stayed here in May 2016 for three nights. Upon checking in, we were served green tea and some green tea mochi before being shown to our room. We had a great view from the room of the riverfront and surrounding forest. The room was clean, and the green tea (grown in Uji) is excellent. Breakfast is served either in...

The rooms are bigger than they are in other ryokans. The onsen bath is just a ceramic tile space, no outdoor onsen areas or sculptured/landscape areas. Breakfast is too similar everyday. We stayed for 4 days. We were trying to leave after 2 days since our meeting schedule had changed. The guy at the reception desk first agreed to let...

The ryokan provides a subtle beautiful experience for the eyes with its spacious lobby, warm cup of tea served on arrival and a garden elegantly lit at night. The Kaiseki dinner was a perfect balance of taste and a feast for the eyes. It is certainly value for the price paid for the stay.

My daughter and I had a great time at Seizanso. They are very eager to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Some ryokans can be more refined, but snobby and cold at the same time. Seizanso is not like that. It's more casual and that was perfect for us. Food is lovely and I highly recommend this ryokan.

We chose the Seizanso Ryokan because it offered traditional Japanese tatami room without locking you into a meal plan. The management was so friendly and accommodating. The location is quiet and the view from the room is beautiful. We recommend a walk upstream from here to the historic pedestrian suspension bridge and back down the other side.

Took a taxi here from the train station. Situated next to the town river, the location of the Ryokan is beautiful. Our room was spacious and had a balcony with a view of the jade green river. Futons were very comfortable. Onsen is basic but clean with showering facilities. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast was eaten in a separate room...

We only stayed here for 2 nights but what an enjoyable way to spend a couple of days, if in Japan you have to at least spend a couple of nights in a typical japanese Ryokan, I wouldn't say that I had the best nights sleep ever, having never slept on the floor before it was a bit strange but...

We stayed here one night during cherry blossom time. Uji is nice and easily accessible from Kyoto. The ryokan is nicely set at the river with cherry blossom trees right at the house and visible from dinner room and onsen. The house was very modern and not like other ryokans we had stayed in before. Before staying there we had...

This is my first visit to a Ryokan in Japan, so I can only judge in my enjoyment and not what is expected from a Ryokan stay. That said, we loved our stay at Seizanso. Located on the Uji river, both the reception area and our room had beautiful river views, including the gently malting cherry blossom trees. The hospitality...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
