This small lodge has the best customer service I have ever experienced on a dive trip. They have a very high quality operation, and very nice facilities. The rooms are great - big and clean and beautiful. The dining area was very pleasant and the food was exceptional - a huge variety of tasty dishes in a very remote location - I don't know how they got some of those ingredients, though there was lots of local dishes too. The dive shop area is well thought out and easy to use with lots of rinse tanks. We dove from a small day boat (a bit tricky to get on and off, especially for those who are not so agile.) Another example of good service - they rinsed our gear thoroughly every evening and hung it up for us. We did 4 dives per day most days - 3 day dives and a night dive. Dive sites are 5 minutes to 30 minutes away. When we got there the visibility was quite poor at the close-in sites, so we ended up spending most of our time at farther away sites - amazing ridges with complex topography and deep canyons and valleys. The coral at these sites was bigger and healthier and packed together more than any place I have seen. There were big schools of big and small fish. Huge sponges and the most amazing hillsides of huge sea fans. We all agreed that with better visibility, we would have been totally blown away. As it was, we were merely amazed! The night dive at the site on an island across the bay was absolutely amazing as well. Rubble and coral sections available. We also dove just off the resort - sand slope with weird beige macro algae, but it's own great assortment of weird critters by both day and night. The only downside was limited bottom time because of no nitrox. Many of the outer sites have areas that are fairly deep that looked so amazing, but we couldn't spend enough time there. So hopefully they'll be getting nitrox before too long! It looked like an area that would have strong currents, but we only ran into currents that influenced our diving a couple times. Do be aware - the small village has 3 mosques, so you will hear the morning call to prayer - for us, it was about 4:45am. I use the silicone earplugs - I even slept through the call to prayer or woke up briefly - you do get used to it! When we walked through town, everyone was friendly. You can even stop and buy ice cream. Enjoy how remote it is!

There were some things that were good about this place, others not so much, so I will review each aspect in a separate paragraph. Rooms. The rooms are very nice and spacious. However the window above our bed could not be closed and on the weekends there was a lot of noise late at night. The sheets smelled a little musty even after they were changed. And it seemed that the bathroom was hosed down instead of just scrubbing the toilet and shower and mopping the floor. The toilet seat and entire bathroom were wet after the cleaning. There was also no place to hang your towel so it would be convenient after your shower - you had to walk across the bathroom to the towel area. Environment. The resort is located next to a small town where most of the women dressed very conservatively. There is a fence around the resort for guest privacy but it felt more like a prison because I did not feel comfortable walking along the beach in my swimsuit due to the conservative dress of the local people. And it was extremely hot inside the fenced area. The sand is dark and can burn your feet in the heat of the day. The resort is a 3 hour drive from the airport in Luwuk. Dining. I am including this section because this is an all-inclusive place. A fan in the dining area would help keep the mosquitos away. Coils were used but were not totally effective. Lunch and dinner were served family style. We watched people use the utensils they had used for eating to take seconds from the serving dishes, instead of using the supplied serving utensils. After seeing that we did not feel comfortable taking seconds ourselves. The food was OK but we have had better food other places in Indonesia. The selection of drinks in the fridge was very limited. The chef’s English was fairly good, but it was difficult to communicate with the serving people. The meal schedule was fairly flexible to accommodate the guest’s preferences. Diving. In order to get to the boat you need to wade through high water as there is no pier. If the surf is high, it is easy to lose your balance on the way there. Getting off the boat seems to be even more tricky, depending on the tide. The diving is not bad, but if you are mainly into muck diving, this is not the place for you.

We were looking for a tranquil place to end our trip in Indonesia and we found it by chance here in Tompotika. We spent 5 days here and totally fell in love with the resort, the staff and the town. Because of this friendly and intimate lodge, we will come back to Indonesia and further explore the Island of Sulawesi. Love to you all from Kym and Micha and thank you for such a memorable experience.

There are variety of dive sites for all divers level, and most of dive sites are located near the resort. If you are underwater photographer, I am sure you will be busy shutting both wide and macro angle photo. Here, Soft coral reefs are just fabulously beautiful. I enjoyed seeing school of jack fish, sweetlips, yellow fusiliers and big fish like Napoleon, Buffalo fish and Barracuda ! There are many different kind of nudibranchs, gobies and pygmy seahorse. There is a very interesting muck diving site where you can find many interesting underwater creatures including mimic octopus and frogfish. Room was very simple, but clean and neat. Good diving, very warm people and excellent food ! I definitely wanna go back there !
