Had a very enjoyable meal on Saturday evening. Pleasant surroundings and tasty food. Unfortunately overall standards were compromised by easily rectifiable details. A mature waitress very inappropriately dressed unlike her smart younger colleague. A menu board that could only by read by those over 50 if they stood up close. The board was peppered with spelling errors and more inappropriate...

Had a very nice stay here for 2 nights. The rooms have been tastefully refurbished & the bar area has a lovely roaring fire. My food was very nicely cooked & the menu had a good choice. Very quiet location with stunning views. Looking forward to goi g back.

Great place to stay in a superb location right next to the pennine way walk, Rooms in stable area were spacious , nicely decorated and clean. Restaurant was offering a nice varied menu, Steaks were superb, only slight let down was the game cassoulet which all 3 people who had it said it was a bit dried out , but...

Lovely place, really cheap beer for such a nice boozer. Recently renovated and it shows. The room had one of the best showers I've ever had. The menu was a bit limited but the steak was really good, cooked actually rare and very tender. Hopefully will be able to return soon

Our colleague chose the Ancient Unicorn after his first choice had no availability for our dates. As it turns out it would be first choice for another expedition. Evidently popular with travellers and locals alike the rooms are good quality, ambience warm and inviting, food excellent and staff approachable and good fun. Location is good, just off the A66, Bowes...

Very pleasant hotel with good food and service. Excellent quiet location but not far from Barnard Castle, Bowes Museum etc. Very clean and tidy room with very comfy bed. Excellent bar with a good variety of beers and spirits at reasonable prices. Would highly recommend

I have been visiting this area each year for the last 5 or 6 years and always try to find a nice place serving good food. In the area of Barnard Castle this place ranks as good as if not better than any you will find on any online search engine. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a small...

We stopped here for 2 nights whilst visiting Barnard Castle. Excellent location & good food. Room was a good size & shower was powerful. Friendly staff. If I'm being picky.......the sausages at breakfast were like hot dog sausages. Not brilliant. Other than that, excellent place to stay if visiting t'north.

We were running a bit late and rather than wait until we got to the motorway services on the M6, we took a side-tour off the A66 to visit this pub for lunch. That proved to be a very good move. The pub looks very old-school inside and out, the restaurant area is clean and tidy with an open fire...

A small country style pub restaurant, typcial pub food, pretty good overall and well priced. A bit smoky and I seemed to adopt a layer of ash as the fire place blew it out. Food was homestyle, curry was nice, home made pie and gravy decent too with the right amount of meat in the filling. Whilst it was friendly,...
