The choice of Okarito was pretty much like sticking a pin in the map, but what a great choice we made. We had a lodge room which is one of three bedrooms in a little house. Each has private facilities and theres a very well equipped kitchen, lounge and dining area which is shared. Its self catering as nothing locally,...

Okarito is a magic place to stay even in the rain. It is a 20-30 inhabitant hamlet with no shop at the end of a no exit road. Bring your food and fill your tank before coming down the 13 km from the SH6. Mind the Kiwis which really do live there as I was lucky and saw two. Aaron...

This was a great place to stay! Close to the beach in a quiet community but close enough to Franz Josef to take a quick trip over. The beach house is cozy and comfortable and the owner was very polite. I would recommend this place for sure.

We had a great two night stay at the Okarito Beach house "hutel." The cottage-style rental was rustic and comfortable, with a very comfy king bed, cooking facilities, decent bathroom, and all the basic amenities. We enjoyed stargazing from the deck at night (but definitely bring bug spray!). Aaron greeted us and walked us through the rental and also told...

The house is nice and has all the ammidities of a small apt. Okarito is a quant village with a small population. The beach is a short 5 min walk away. Once there...

If you want quite, serene laid back then this is the place. Off the main drag lots of great walking tracks, kayaking areas and a huge beach to walk along. Rooms were very clean, well stocked and tidy, no complaints and would return. We stayed with a large group throughout a number of 'houses' and all loved it.

We didn't know what to expect but were so pleased with the cabin. Our room was spacious and nicely furnished using driftwood from the beach for headboards and drawer handles. The main room was huge with sofas, wood burner and a massive dining table plus a very well equipped kitchen area. The electric hob was difficult to control but that...
