Lovely little hotel. . Perfect position. Delicious restaurant. Would definitely recommend it. Room was not bad. Would've preferred the main hotel. Lovely to walk around Tulbagh. Very pretty little town.

Originally we had booked the Honeymoon Suite but it was totally destroyed by a fire one week before arrival. Instead we were rebooked into the Obiqua Suite, a beautiful, quaint historic room but with all modern amenities and big comfy bed. And I loved the very comfortable, spacious shower in the beautiful, large bathroom. Nice and tasty breakfast a la... More

Definitely will not be coming back. Our room in annexe across a the main road. Our room had a modern shower stuck in the middle of room. Was shown another room that was no better as wash basin in the room as toilet and shower was separate!! We were not shown any amenities across the main hotel. On arrival from... More

I am afraid your review is disingenuous at best. You booked the least expensive room, a Fynbos room, with shower only. Your issue with the shower being in the same area as the bed, was treated with respect. The general manager, who I employ to manage our staff, properties and make policy decisions was consulted. She generously followed our mantra... More

On a mini honeymoon with my wife, we had an awesome experience at the restaurant, the staff on duty all greeted us with a big smile, were attentive and more than happy to assist with any of our questions or requests. We had a look at the 'heritage style' hotel rooms, they were neat, clean and quaint with modern amenities.... More

Had booked the Baines Barn, which was not located at the hotel, but on the old nice and quiet street. It had been a self catering Place until the Hotel bought it and included it in their service. We thought it was very nice and if you look at the money we paid for two nights(2 persons) including breakfast, it... More

Dear Christer and Gunilla many thanks for your review. The hotel doesn't actually own Bain's Barn, we just manage it for a friend. I will pass on your comments to the owner. Many thanks for your kind comments about the hotel staff and the restaurant. Kind regards Alasdair More

We had to stay over in Tulbagh to attend a wedding of friends of ours. Tulbagh Hotel is so centrally located, it was the ideal place to stay. We only had to drive 5 min to the wedding venue, which was on a farm just outside of Tulbagh. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by a very friendly... More

Dear Christine many thanks for your valued review. Tulbagh is very popular as a wedding venue throughout the year. Many of the excellent vineyards have chapels, and the oldest church in SA, circa 1745, is also available for weddings. Look forward to welcoming you back Alasdair More

When you visit Tulbagh again, ask the receptionist at the Tulbagh Hotel that you want to sleep in their Self Catering Unit called Bains Barn in Church street. What a beautiful and comfortable historic building that not only gives you a big open plan kitchen, but also a sitting room, a spacious sleeping room and your own courtyard. See photos... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tulbagh is centrally-located and conveniently placed to explore the town with its historic Church Street and many other attractions and amenities. The main hotel building dates from 1859 & offers a range of contemporary-styled luxurious rooms. The Winterhoek Manor(1813) and the Toll House(1809), opposite the hotel, are two of the heritage properties in Church Street, offering charming period rooms. Individual décor and fine cotton linen adorning four poster beds. Chandeliers on yellowwood beamed ceilings. Our Honeymoon Suite is the jewel in our crown. Crafted from the old wagon shed, this suite oozes romantic charm. Open thatch, two fireplaces, bath and shower for two. There are three pool areas, free Wi-Fi throughout and an in-house beauty therapist. All areas have air conditioning and there are cosy wood-burning fires for winter evenings. Tulbagh is just over an hours drive from Cape Town, nestled at the foot of the Witzenburg, Winterhoek and Obiqua Mountains in the heart of the Cape Winelands. ... more   less
