We stayed at the Discovery lodge just last week and were very happy with our stay. It is very easy to find, right off the main road and a short drive to whakapapa. We stayed in a studio chalet. It was the perfect size for a few days. Very clean and modern wth comfortable beds and great mountain views. We...

We ended up here because it was raining and we did not want to camp but we were so happy that we did!!! This has the earliest shuttle to crossing - made our hike so enjoyable. It wasn't too hot, no other people in our pictures, it was stunning. Great staff especially the receptionist and shuttle drivers - super informative...

Discovery provides the best shuttle experience for the Tongariro Crossing. This was one of the busiest campsites we've been to and it lake the facilities for the number of people staying. Fine for one night to use for the shuttle and the crossing.

We stayed in ensuite backpackers room which was reasonably priced. We found it was basic and the bed wasn't particularly comfortable but this place is in a great location for the Tongariro crossing. The first bus gets you onto the crossing before the crowds so it's really worth doing. The staff make sure you are suitably prepared and they are...

We stopped here intending to complete the Alpine Crossing from site, but considering cost, the facilities are poor. There's a washing machine, but drier is very poor. Ample fresh water, but no dump facilities, shop or wifi. The showers however, are free. We moved on to Whakapapa.

We were only able to stay here for one night. Our room was cosy and the staff were extremely welcoming. We actually came quite under prepared for the crossing which meant we had to go to a place called Ski Biz (very short drive away) to rent boots and wet weather pants (boots +pants=$25) and the man at the lodge...

My wife and I recently stayed in a chalet studio for two nights. The room was nice - clean, modern, comfortable. It comes with a kitchenette that works well for light cooking. No oven though - just a hot plate. The only problem with the room was them lack of air conditioning and screens in the windows. The room got...

This motel annex campground is situated in a great location with views if the three volcanoes. Hikingtrails are closeby as are other activities such as flights. There is nothing much within walking distance. You can eat at the lodge where you have limited choice. The food is quite nice. The rooms of the motel are spacious enough but could do...

We showed up at discovery lodge very shortly before the office closed looking for a place to stay that was not a campsite. We were given the choice of a studio room, or the motel studio, and went with the latter. Miekelien at the front desk was very helpful & friendly in getting us set up. The room was spacious...
