We recently stayed at the IceHotel for 2 nights and were pleasantly surprised given the varying reviews. Here are our general observations:
1. Warm Room: Our "warm room" resembled a clean Scandinavian dorm room and was very well equipped with a hair dryer, Kettle with tea bags, reading lights, nice shower gel, good water pressure, etc. We liked it just fine. 2. Cold Room: We had reserved a cold “suite” for a night but opted to stay instead in our warm room. There were different types of cold rooms and we would definitely recommend getting one that has its own bathroom adjacent to the room. The cold rooms are open to the public so you can’t have access to it until 6 pm. 3. There were 3 comfortable lounge areas nicely decorated in Scandi style, two of which had full bars with expensive drinks. We liked the cozy bar in the “Adventure Center” best. 4. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. 5. The breakfast buffet was enormous and varied. Open from 7:30 – 10:30 am. Included in the room rate. 6. We had dinner one night at the Old Homestead (easy 10m minute walk down the street) which seems to be affiliated with the Hotel. It was rustic with options such as pizza, burgers and local specialities such as “pulled bear” and reindeer stew. Decent red and white wines by the glass and bottle. 7. The activities are expensive and felt very touristy. Think "laminated sheets" with color photos... We were very glad that we did our own research and booked an ice fishing trip with a local guide. 8. You do feel a bit trapped here. It's a hassle to go into Kiruna because the 501 bus goes only sporadically to/from Ice Hotel- Kiruna and then otherwise, it's an inexplicable $50-$60 taxi ride to/from Kiruna (11 miles).

From the moment we entered the reception, we loved the smiling, solution-oriented staff. We stayed in a warm room, our bed was very comfortable, there was a kettle in the room and it was a great experience to watch the northern lights from our window while sipping our hot coffee.. Breakfast is open buffet and sufficient, you can visit the ice bar and ice rooms for free, which are really worth seeing.. We contributed to recycling by throwing our ice drinking glasses into the Torne River, which was partly frozen 😀 By renting a car, you can reach the hotel from Kiruna airport in 10-15 minutes. If we come again, we will definitely choose the ice hotel, this time we will stay longer, see you again 👍

The ice hotel is incredibly beautiful. Inspiring and impressive in every way. You find yourself in a fantastic fairytale world. The sound inside the hotel is wonderfully dull and the air clear and fresh. The concept is amazing and the whole thing is very beautiful and tastefully composed. It is absolutely worth a visit. The dog sledding tour and ice sculpting were very nice activities that we enjoyed. Adventure Lounge was a nice place to hang out, with good drinks, friendly staff and board games. Staying at Icehotel means that you are "homeless" between 11 am and 3 pm when you change rooms between hot and cold accommodation. It was quite lumpy and there were many different times. Arctic cottage was a very fresh and cozy accommodation. The Nordic cottage, on the other hand, was worn and unfresh, the drain stopped, the bunk bed looked like someone gnawed on it... Not nice at all. Deluxe suite in the cold part was really nice and comfortable with its warm part. The sleeping bags were very warm and comfortable. One pillow per man was a bit stingy though. Sleeping in the cold room was much more comfortable than we had thought before. You only have access to your cold room between 18:00 and 8:30 in the morning. The warm part is between 15 the day you move in to 11 the next day. Before - observe before! - it was time to check out came the cleaning staff. Without knocking, they opened the door and stepped in as we were changing. They didn't return our greeting, just strolled in. We were seven people so we stayed in three different suites and in all three rooms they did the same thing. Terrible and rude behavior and certainly nothing we've ever experienced anywhere but here. The reception staff were not overly helpful or very informative. It felt like they were pretty tired of tourists. If so, they're in the wrong place! There was a star at the reception who shone brightly above the others: if you want help or talk to a competent person, it is Britta you should try to reach. Management can count themselves lucky to have such an asset among all the other more unmotivated members of staff. Overall, the hotel is absolutely worth a visit but maybe you should do it over the day only. Or for one night - but not two. It was a wonderful feast for the eye but the service was far below the level you would expect from a hotel in this price range.

Our group of three were staying in one of the warm cabins, and when you stay at any part of the hotel, entry to the exhibit is included. If you only stay for one night and want to go into the icehotel before checking in or after checking out, just talk to the person at the hotel reception. If you go after you have checked in, your key-card is your ticket. Also, the reception for checking in is not at the "entrance" sign, it's just after the arch and Adventure center & shop. All the rooms except booked deluxe suites are available to walk into, and as far as we know we had access to all the rooms when we went here.
The exhibit is amazing! It's hard to understand how the artists can make the things they do out of ice and snow. There were some other people in the 365 part, but when we went into the original icehotel we went the other way and had the rooms to ourselves to photograph.
The cabin was nice and cozy and featured a fridge. What looks like wooden floors are actually a soft carpet, and some of the interior were a little worn (like the door to the bathroom were a bit hard to close). We had a late night and early morning so can't write a very thorough review of the beds, but they seemed comfortable.
It was somewhat unclear if you were supposed to wash the dishes or if the staff would do it after you checked out, but there were dish soap so we just cleaned them ourselves.
The breakfast was served across the street and was the standard hotel buffet, and of course they had some reindeer meat for the sandwiches ;). They also had a separate gluten free corner. There was plenty of room to hang your coats before entering the dining area, so don't be afraid to put on the thick coat if it's cold outside.
We will definitely come back and stay in a cabin again!

I visited the ice hotel on a solo trip for 3 nights - 1 in the cold room (art 360 suite) and 2 in the Kaamos hotel room.
The cold room was a cool and unique experience, and I’m glad I did it! A few things to note before you book. Most of the cold rooms do not have a bathroom attached and the communal bathroom is about a few minute walk from the room so it could be worth it to spend the extra money to get a room with an attached bathroom. I would also make sure to book one of the rooms that comes with the private storage locker since the check in/check out times are unusual so the locker was very helpful.
The Kaamos room was a pretty basic room, but definitely appreciated after staying in the cold room the first night.
I booked several activities through the hotel - dog sledding, northern lights photography tour, and horseback riding to see moose. These 3 activities were pretty good, and it was nice to be able to book them through the hotel. Be wary when you’re booking activities that you will be spending a lot of time out in the cold so you may not want to book as many as you initially want.
I saw a lot of mixed reviews about the food, but I personally loved all the food I had here and thought it was high quality. The free breakfast buffet was pretty standard and had a lot of options. I had 2 dinners at the ice hotel restaurant that were both really wonderful - just know its best to make those reservations in advance. The food is not cheap, but I expected that since its a tourist destination and the food was worth it!
My last night I dined at the Veranda for their tasting menu and it was fantastic. The staff were amazing, and the food was delicious, unique, and plentiful. I chose the nonalcoholic pairing and it was a pleasant surprise - so many fun and delicious drinks throughout the course of the meal.

The Ice Hotel is truly a unique work of art. The suites, designed by many artists with a variety of themes, the ice bar and the ceremonial hall are so incredibly impressive that we almost couldn't get enough of them. However, we had avoided spending the night in the cold room and instead booked an "Arctic Chalet" with 3 beds. The space was sufficient for our short stay, but there is no closet, just a few places to hang clothes, so you basically live out of a suitcase. The living area is comfortable and there is also a small sink and refrigerator.
For a hotel in this price range, expectations are naturally correspondingly high - the Ice Hotel did not live up to these in all respects. We had a service telephone number in case the shuttle bus we had booked from Kiruna train station was not there. However, when we called multiple times, the phone was not answered, but the connection was simply disconnected after a few rings. Depending on the team, the service in the "Old Homestead" restaurant belonging to the Ice Hotel was not always as attentive as we would have liked. However, there was nothing to complain about in terms of the quality of the food.

Wow! A quality, unpretentious, unique hotel and experience in a stunning location Warm room accommodation initially felt basic however it’s extremely well thought out and cosy. The ice rooms are stunning and if you are not staying at the resort a day visit and look at the beautiful hand crafted sculptures is a must Thin layering is recommended Snow suits, boots, mittens and balaclavas provided when staying are perfect are immaculate. During our stay we took the northern lights snowmobile safari, an amazing experience lots of time on the snowmobile an beautiful dinner in the wilderness cabin in the middle and our guide for the evening was excellent We also had the veranda with wine package. What a gastronomic delight! Watching the team cook, talking through the ingredients, sourcing, methodology was fabulous and the wine pairings are perfect. Shout outs to Apostilos, Kasper and Ricardo-A great team. Ricardo also spotted us in the main restaurant the following evening (where we were drinking one of his wine choices from the night before) and came over to say hello. Shout out also to Dominique in the main restaurant who talked us through the menu and helped with our selections We spent our final night in ICE365 - mystery on the icehotel express - with a warm bathroom (worth the extra) it was amazing and we were so cosy in our sleeping bags

I've wanted to visit the Icehotel for years and finally this year, I got to tick that off my bucket list. Oh - and also got engaged outside the iconic entrance on our first night :)
The hotel is stunning and an incredible feat of engineering. Some of the artwork is phenomenal, some very nice and some just a bit weird/creepy. We stayed two nights - the first in one of the deluxe suites, the second in a standard warm room. Our suite was actually a bit "creepy" and included a female figure fully encased in ice and other figures trying to escape from ice blocks. It wouldn't have been what my partner would have chosen given his intention to propose - but that was the room we were allocated so... Some of the other suites were just stunning - unfortunately we definitely drew the short straw. That said, you obviously don't spend much time in the room given it's -5oC. The attached bathroom for the deluxe suite was fabulous - cosy, tea and coffee facilities, lots of space, private sauna, big bathtub, rainshower, private toilet etc. It was extremely expensive for us - but to be honest, we did get good use out of the warm bathroom area so was worth it as a treat! On our first night we kept an eye on the aurora app on our phones and so went outside when advised and sure enough we saw the aurora dancing overhead. We were fortunate and had already seen it elsewhere (with better shows) on our previous two nights but still it was pretty special, especially as we'd just got engaged.
One thing we weren't really aware of was that if you're in the suite and in the warm room then come out into your ice-room, it can be filled with the day visitors taking photos - even well into the evening which is a bit strange. Also a weird anomaly is that the warm bathroom only locks during day visitor hours so for instance when we went to go to breakfast, we had to leave it open. Strangely it took about 20 minutes before a staff member told us this - as the first two people I spoke to couldn't really help - we thought there was a fault with our door. As others mention, they seem to have a lot of student type staff who whilst polite and friendly, aren't familiar with the workings of the hotel so can't really help with everything.
The warm room was fine, spacious and comfortable but we missed the heated bathroom floor which we'd had at our Kiruna hotel! Given it was -18o when we stayed, it would have been very welcome.
Breakfast was good with a large selection of food, We also ate both nights at the Homestead and really enjoyed it. I had read mixed reviews but hotel staff booked it for us (all very easily done) and we liked both the atmosphere and food in it.
We used the airport shuttle service one way and it was easy to book with the hotel staff and worked well for us.
We also enjoyed the cocktails at the icebar - and going down the quirky slide! The icebar is only open during daytime though so we had a late morning cocktail before leaving for our flight.
I'm guessing as we stayed in the deluxe suite with the warm room, we weren't offered any of the snowsuits etc which others wore.

Hotel inspired by ice, where you can choose to stay in a cold room (made of ice and some rooms are true works of art and each night is quite expensive) or a hot room (with less glamour, but much more affordable). Even if you stay in a hot room, you can visit the ice rooms during the day at no extra cost. Included in the price is access to cold weather gear such as boots, balaclavas, gloves, outerwear - essentials for any outdoor activity. Breakfast is quite good and there are lots of options for activities in the snow (with quite high prices for Portuguese reality). We did the sled dog activity and it was simply fantastic.

Think of it as an experience first, and a hotel second, and you're on the right track.
The Jauvre deluxe suites, distinguished by a private, heated bathroom with bath and sauna, are especially large and elaborately decorated. They also all have direct access to the outdoors via the bathroom. The bathroom is huge and includes lounge seating for a good reason: it's where you spend most of your waking time and keep all your stuff. You get access just to this private bathroom part at 3pm, but public visits to the bedroom continue until 6pm. The sauna worked well but the hot water supply for showering was terrible. Just when you need a hot shower most, tepid is the best you'll get. We had to top up the bath with hot water from the kettle. This is a critical flaw and a bit of a "you had one job" failing for an expensive hotel in such a cold place.
Once you're in that extreme sleeping bag, there's nothing to worry about. If anything you'll be too warm - they're designed for far more extreme conditions than a stable, sheltered -5°. After 8 hours in it, my face (the only exposed part) wasn't even cold to the touch and I had long removed the recommended socks and balaclava due to overheating. The mattress is on the hard side, and not necessarily level. The rooms are not freshened up after visiting hours end at 6pm, so the pillow is damp by the time you get to it and the floor carries grubby shoeprints.
The biggest surprise was the lack of things to do before going to bed. The ice bar closes at 8pm (in other words, before you finish dinner). Apart from hanging around in the various lobby lounges or spending some time in the communal sauna, it is hard to pass the time between returning from activities, having dinner and a late enough hour to turn in for the night. A gym or arcade games or table quiz or karaoke... anything... would go a long way towards making the evenings more lively and sociable.
Excursions offered by the Ice Hotel carry an absolutely absurd markup. Most are available through small businesses in Kiruna directly for a far more reasonable (but still high) price.
The reception team here deserves high praise. They treat you as a guest and not a customer, take time to answer questions thoughtfully and generally help to add a personable touch to an otherwise quite industrialized experience.
Foodwise, the Ice Hotel delivers. The breakfast buffet offers an exhaustive selection. The lunch buffet deal is unbeatable value at under €18 for a wide selection of salads, two crowd-pleasing main courses, coffee/tea, water and juice. Dinner has more premium aspirations and pricing, but does not disappoint. It's a good chance to try local cuisine with some creative twists. The restaurant was completely full for both lunch and dinner, so reservations are advisable.

We stayed in an Art room and whilst it was beautiful, the lack of an en-suite loo was a bit of an issue for me. So I would recommend staying with the deluxe suite.
We did both the Husky Dog Sledding and and Snow Mobile Safari and both were excellent. We were lucky with a great view of the Northern Lights. I would recommend booking both in advance.
Note: Sweden is almost entirely Cash Free, so be prepared to use cards/cashless for everything.
Yes, they pick you up at the Airport and take you to the hotel directly. Don't use the train from Stockholm. It worked out poorly for several people while I was there.
There are more places to choose from in the Jukkasjarvi area.
