Detailed Reviews
The restaurant is using local indegriedents with some personal twist. The food is best in town! The staff, location and athmosphere were all friendly. We had even live music on. I can highly recommend Aurora Estate both for food and accomodation!

We were lucky enough to stay here in December 2019 for 3 nights. Lovely place to stay, room was small but cosy, food was fantastic, and the staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend. Hopefully we will travel there again.👍

Sitting in the airport waiting for my plane, and thinking back on a very memorable stay at Aurora Estate. What a high-mark in hospitality! Heidi never tires of making the guests’ stay as pleasurable as possible, while Sirly is a truly excellent cook. We had 5 diners and the food is simply the best (and apparently famous in the region). Our room was clean and comfortable (although a couple of hooks to hang our skiing gear on to dry would be welcome). Very good beds (I’m 1.87 m)! I have been to Lapland in summer for fly fishing, but would certainly recommend a winter stay. If you do, stay here! (And Sirly: if you start offering fishing trips I will certainly be back in summer).

Fräscha rum i nordisk stil. Läget vid sjön är vackert och rogivande. Restaurangen är mycket smakfullt inredd och maten har stjärnklass! Ägarna och personalen är professionella men samtidigt personliga och mycket hjälpsamma.

We visited this hotel with our 3 young children recently. We were worried about their response to the (lovely but adult) menu, however I voiced my concerns to Sirly in advance who prepared a delicious pasta dish just for them. They ate the lot, we had a delicious meal off the main menu and everyone therefore had an amazing time. Sirly was lovely, the staff were all very accommodating of our family and we left feeling very relaxed and full (plus amazed that we'd managed a civilised meal in a lovely restaurant with 3 kids in tow!). Would most definitely go again. Thanks to Sirly and staff!

Missing ingredients in our main food. When waitor was made aware of it she apologized that she couldnt see inside the burger... Laughable, the missing ingredients was then brought to out table on a plate besides the main food. Poor excuses and no coffe or dessert on the house. They still have a Long way to go to even reach normal International standard.

Response from HeidiSirly, Omistaja at Aurora Estate Hotelli
Responded 16 Jul 2019
Dear Christoffer, I am so sorry for the missing ingredients. I will take full responsibility my self, as a Chef. Our summer menu is simple, but we use fresh ingredients. As you can see, summer in Lapland is slow and there is no change to run michelin star level restaurant with two people working and few customers. It is really important for us to make tasty food even it's not that busy. We grow our own herbs, bake fresh bread every day and really do this with love. Hope to see you again and I wish you a beautiful summer. -Sirly Schinmann, Chef and owner-

Wir konnten leider nur 2 Nächte bleiben, es war super. Die Köchinnen verwöhnten uns mit allerlei leckerem, die Aussicht war genial und die Gespräche und Tipps der Inhaberinnen genau das, was wir suchten.

We booked a 4-night stay at the Aurora Estate Hotel a couple of months before our visit in February as a trip for my 50th birthday. Prior to our visit I exchanged emails with Heidi who was very helpful in answering all my questions. We decided to take the bus from Kittilä airport as it was only €12.5 each way (much cheaper than €80 for a taxi and ours was the first stop after the airport) - on request it drops you very close to the hotel. Although there was thick snow it was an easy 200 metre walk from the drop off by the small supermarket to the hotel.
We checked in and were shown to our room which was at the top of the stairs and had a nice view overlooking what is probably fields thick with snow! The room was rather ‘bijoux’ and with two suitcases of cold weather gear it was a case of moving things around whilst we were in the room to make space. However it was really warm and the wet room style bathroom and shower had plenty of hot water. The free wifi was also of a good speed. There are suites available which are bigger but all were booked up by the time we booked our trip.
We ate in on our evening of arrival and on Valentines day as I thought other places nearby could be fully booked. The food was very good, beautiful presented and the main courses a good quantity. I had paella on the first evening and the Valentine menu choice of spaghetti carbonara on the second evening. The food was rather expensive as it is all over Finland and the wine was very expensive so we stuck to tap water!
We chose what time we wanted breakfast the evening before and when we came down a continental buffet style breakfast on a sharing plate was promptly served.
On the other two evenings we ate at the excellent bar/restaurant ‘Orso’, about a 10-minute walk in the snow (see my separate review) and probably rather better value for money.
During our stay we went husky sledging with ‘Rami’s Huskies’ - brilliant - and we went snowmobiling and visited a reindeer farm with ‘Due North Safaris’, also very good (a small and professional company). I have written separate reviews and I would throughly recommend both companies as small, professional and excellent value for money (although not cheap).
To summarise, the hotel is in a great location, quiet with nice views and close by to a cafe and small supermarket and it is easy to travel to the ski resort by bus. Standard rooms are rather small and at €192 a night with breakfast rather pricey.

Merci, Clarisse
