The Aurora Estate is an absolute delight in every way. The food, hospitality and care are second to none. It is a very special little place set on the edge of a beautiful lake, where you can even have a private dinner served to you by the fire in the sauna house. Brilliant location, where the ski bus can pick you up just at the end of the lane. It is so great being close enough to the ski slopes, whilst at the same time being in a quiet and very peaceful location. Nikklas, the chef, is hugely talented and the cleaners, waiters and waitresses are friendly and gracious. We were lucky enough to stay for a whole week and loved every minute of our stay. Thank you to everyone at Aurora Estate for a truly wonderful hotel and dining experience!
When you arrive to the best new boutique hotel (2018) in Europe, your expectations are naturally set pretty high, e.g at a comparable level to the best boutique hotels in Helsinki. This is not what you get at Aurora Estate, even if the hotel stands out positively from the local hotel offering. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, but the rest of the interior decoration is pretty basic, including the rooms. Have to give a plus for the beds, though. The breakfast is advertised as ”artisan” one, but it also falls short of high expectations. Only the orange juice and smoothies lived up to the promise, while the rest of the breakfast items were quite dull and basic supermarket stuff. One would expect e.g. handmade bread, but is was probably bought from the neighbouring grocery. The hotel location and concept would match perfectly with utilisation of local delicacies, like berries, mushrooms, reindeer, but none of the breakfast items were even remotely local and fresh by nature. I do understand, if the covid time has forced the hotel owners to ”cut corners” in many ways to manage through the difficult times. If so, it has happpend at at clear cost of customer experience / high expectations. This can’t be a cost issue alone. E.g. berries and mushrooms are all over the surrounding nature for free. It just takes a few hours to go and pick them up in the best fall season. Finally I have to give credit for a very pleasant and flexible service, nothing to complain about that, in fact the opposite. If the owners read this, I really hope that you get some ideas from this review to make most of your unique location and reputation (referring to the evening restaurant, which we were unfortunately not able to test) in the future. And perhaps a little ”push” too ; )…
Rooms cozy and with a personal a sense of style, as was the restaurant. Food really very competently done, a good celebratory supper. Would love to see an extension to the premises, with a bar around a fireplace and perhaps a little terrace with warming lamps. Now there are rooms and the restaurant, but no real place to sit and have a drink with a book. Warmly recommended.
We were lucky enough to stay here in December 2019 for 3 nights. Lovely place to stay, room was small but cosy, food was fantastic, and the staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend. Hopefully we will travel there again.👍
We visited this hotel with our 3 young children recently. We were worried about their response to the (lovely but adult) menu, however I voiced my concerns to Sirly in advance who prepared a delicious pasta dish just for them. They ate the lot, we had a delicious meal off the main menu and everyone therefore had an amazing time. Sirly was lovely, the staff were all very accommodating of our family and we left feeling very relaxed and full (plus amazed that we'd managed a civilised meal in a lovely restaurant with 3 kids in tow!). Would most definitely go again. Thanks to Sirly and staff!
After some business days in Helsinki we descided to visit Lappland, hoping to see there a "golden autumn " and some aurora borealis. Based on tripadvisor´s recommendation we booked Aurora Estate Hotelli - Travellors Excellence 2019. Travelling by plane & rent a car and based on excellent consulting by Heidi, one of the owners of AURORA, we discovered Lappland at its best ! - . Heidi & Shirly wellcomed us warm-hearted in their cosy Hotel which is located in the open landscape directly on the banks of a lake. Hills for skiing/walking are nearby. Fortunately. the hotel is in the modern. regional style, which means a lot of wood and fireplaces - a guarantee for pleasant room climate. Our sleeping room ( size / bed / bathroom as well as the view from the window) has been perfect and well kept as the rest of the hotel. After a delicious dinner with risotto and mushrooms and whitefish in versions for gourmets, complemented by delicious premium white wines, we enjoyed the very personal style of our hosts in a subsequent conversation about the aurora timing of next night / the country/ the people and their customs and about potential day trips in the region. Consequence: we saw next midnight a perfect Aurora B in front of the hotel - a unique experience in our life. Next morning - after a breakfast for upgrown Finnish men and a coffe that awakened the Italian in you - we promised our hosts, that we will come back to this " pure" place in June to celebrate the midsummer night!…
This is a small boutique hotel 10 minutes drive from Yllas, the biggest ski resort and great hiking area in Lapland. The hotel is run by Sirly and Heidi, who do an amazing job with this little jewel by the lake. Sirly cooks like a master chef in a Michelin star restaurant and she is extremely artistic with the layout of the dishes. Well worth the trip just to go to their restaurant. By far the best fine dining we had in Lapland. There is a second little house on the side where you can have private dinners and where there is a sauna and jacuzzi. Amazing place - must visit in Summer or Winter. 40 minutes from Kittila airport.
Missing ingredients in our main food. When waitor was made aware of it she apologized that she couldnt see inside the burger... Laughable, the missing ingredients was then brought to out table on a plate besides the main food. Poor excuses and no coffe or dessert on the house. They still have a Long way to go to even reach normal International standard.
I got a warm welcome, got spoiled two weeks long from the Team and got a warm farewell... It's a real nice quiet place next to the lake, with a nice view and the hotel is only 3-4 years old... Supermarket, bus station and country ski tracks are only 200m away... I liked Sirly cooking art, exceptional breakfasts and dinners, food quality, plate presentation and the lovely detailed explanations about what you get in your plate! ;-) I enjoyed the atmosphere with love to details and the music in the dining room! It's very clean, i had a good bed and i appreciated the Nespresso coffee machine in my room... ;-) Mirja is a sunshine!!
We stayed for 4 nights here while holidaying in Finland for 3 weeks. It was a nice change to stay in a smaller boutique hotel and in a quieter location next to the lake. We loved the sauna and jacuzzi and we loved jumping in the frozen lake, what an experience for an australian family. So much so that we booked it again while we were there. The rooms are quite small but we found they were adequate if you popped the suitcases on top of the wardrobe and the rooms we not much smaller than the rooms we've stayed in elsewhere. The breakfasts were huge, more than enough for our family and a great selection too. We had dinner only 1 night and the food was fabulous, fine dining style, small portions but all excellent. It was pricy, but then for us everything in finland has been pricy and no more expensive than anywhere else we've been of similar quality. The staff and owners were actually really lovely and helpful, they even printed off a whole heap of school work pages for our daughter and helped us out when our transport didn't arrive. We got to see the northern lights on our last night, what was really nice was that the owner sent us messages to let us and other guests know that the lights were there. It was quite late too, we could have easily missed it. The location is great, there are 2 other restaurants within walking distance. The views from the hotel are stunning too. We didn't have a car but we did get picked up everyday by the company we did our tours with, Due North Safaris so no problem there. …
