This was the first time we stayed at the Saaga Hotel, previous visits we have stayed in a log cabin. This is the first time we have taken the kids 6,8,10 so decided a hotel may have been more straightforward. We were a bit apprehensive as to what the facilities would be like, but can't fault the hotel at all. The reception staff were always smiling, helpful and happy to assist, apart from one but we didn't run into that individual frequently. The lady that checked us out went above and beyond to make the only negative situation we encountered, better. (Our sons teddy went missing following maid service, the hotel are still looking for it and have assured us if it is found they will forward it on, at checkout the lady offered my Son a teddy from the gift shop which made him feel better about leaving his behind.) Small but compassionate gesture made a huge difference.
The rooms were clean. A touch basic but well maintained. We stayed Self Catering so were in the third Chalet Block. We lucky to have a corner room so have magnificent views everyday. Definitely a bonus to staying in a hotel set above ground level. The kitchen was well equiped, we had a small sauna and a drying cupboard which was a god send to dry the kids coats and sallopets daily. No washing machine, but I wouldn't have used it had there been one. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on food quality. Use of the pool area was part of our package with Inghams and was a nice alternative to break up sledging and playing in the snow. Never had any problems with Inghams as a provider. We would definitely book the hotel again. We didn't utilise any of the Ski facilities, the children's sledging area was great fun and we did take the Gondola tour to the top of the Fell which was mesmerising. We simply went to play in the snow for a week. Although the area is remote this adds to its charm. We managed a 45 min walk to the supermarket in Yllasjarvi and the bus back and we used the ski bus to Akaslompolo where the big supermarket is. Plenty of excursions to occupy yourself with, we only did the snowmobile family safari, but again, even that was amazing. Just a brilliant holiday. We would all happily have stayed.

We visited in Feb 2022 with Inghams and at no time were we disappointed we stayed in the hotel itself. the transfer from the airport is around 40 minutes, on arrival we were early and fortunate that our room was available.
the Hotel was clean and rooms a good size for 2, we had a view of the slopes and would recommend requesting this if not allocated. we booked half board which was fortunate as alternatives for food in the evenings was limited, Inghams provided a taxi to a local supermarket on the first evening to get a few extras for the room or more for those self catering. the restaurant is buffet style with good hot and cold options even for a pescatarian and Diabetic, Breakfast was also a similar good standard. we did visit the SPA one day but found it a little busy on other days when the weather was not so good but if you have young children it would be useful. we also tried to book a treatment for my wife but left it until the Wednesday and there was nothing available recommend booking early. the Gym looks good but did not use. at lunch we found the hotel Bar quiet and a nice place to sit and watch the slope at the back. in the evening there were a couple of bars open both not busy that week and prices seemed to be the same wherever you went. In the early hours of the last night we even saw the Northern Lights from our hotel room not the best view due to the slope lights but too late and cold to venture to the wooded area.
the ski slopes were at the back but found access at the end of the hotel this would have been an easier if the dressed the snow to the slop but not a big issue (there was a lot of snow that week) we had ski school booked for 3 days which was good if a little restricted on 2 days due to the high winds and snow but that said we both enjoyed the slopes we had access to. the rest of the week skiing was limited due to the weather and some lifts being out, this was not a issue for us as we had booked a night at the Snow Village and Husky safari
for the Snow Village we had to leave before the evening meal so you need to plan to have it there if booking this be well worth a visit
The Husky Safari was amazing, you have to manage your own sledge but the dogs are well trained and know where they need to go would highly recommend this.
Overall we both agreed that we would like to go back the Hotel did everything we wanted, staff were very helpful and we would also use Inghams again.

We spent six days at this convenient hotel in Lake Ylläs district. Superior room with balcony was high and spacious, convenient beds, practical bathroom and location on the high floor of the main building. Nice view to Ylläs hill.

Friendly, easy going and polite service both at reception and restaurant. We had our dinners at the restaurant. Because of Covid-19 there was only limited menu but it was enough for us. Delicious food! Breakfast was also good, wide variety of cold and warm food.

Spa with saunas and jacuzzis was relaxing after skiing.

Big space for parking, there was heating outlets for customers for free of charge.

Downhill skiing slopes are very near the hotel but there is some 500/600 meters walk to cross country ski tracks.

All the staff and also fellow customers had masks all the time. There was also masks and disinfection gel available and everybody took care of safe distances.

Booked a week's ski holiday through Crystal. Our room on the 4th floor overlooked the piste. On our evening arrival the Chef kindly prepared a large portion of salmon, new potatoes and salad to take to our rooms along with a huge portion of cheese and biscuits. We were impressed with the quality and quantity!!
The hotel food was delicious and probably the best we have ever had in our 15 ski holidays. We were on half board with this hotel and it was buffet service which suited us just fine. The International waiters/waitresses were all very happy and cleared the tables consistently.
Our large room was equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries in the bathroom with robes and slippers (superior room only).
The ski boot room was easily accessible.
The Spa area had a pool, jacuzzi x 2 and a sauna and steam room to a good standard.
The reception staff were very polite and knowledgeable and the restaurant staff.
We were impressed with its location to the ski slopes and to the magical National Park which was a Narnia experience in itself.
Apparently the Northern Lights appeared three times but sadly we missed them each time, our own fault, in not trusting the App and lack of motivation to get dressed up to face the -16 weather at midnight.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Hotel and are thinking of going back next year and my husband never says that after a ski holiday.
Lapland is very different to the Alps/Dolomites etc and we felt the skiing was a little more relaxed for us now we are in our dotage!!

We are a family of 4 (children aged 5 and 7) and have just returned from a wonderful holiday staying at the Saaga Hotel.
We booked through Inghams one of the 2 bed chalets in an attached block. Our 4th floor chalet was very well equipped, very clean, modern and spacious for a self catering stay.
Skiing was brilliant, wide empty slopes and great to have lifts and ski school a 5 minute walk away and we were able to ski right back to our apartment block!
It was great to have the hotel facilities available to us, kids loved the swimming pool (yes, it is a bit chilly) and free use of floats, woggles and sinkers was a right bonus! Good small gym on site too. Also a wellness centre but we never used it.
The small grocery store has a rather random and eclectic mix of food and gifts, much better to head to the larger supermarket (50min walk or €17 taxi).
Trips and excursions are expensive, as are the local and onsite restaurants, but I think that’s in keeping with most of Finland or the local area at least. But once in a lifetime type trips.
Most important to note, there’s no local supermarkets to buy wine so either take with you or it’s only available in bars or restaurants!!
I would definitely recommend this apart-hotel for a real get away from it all, fantastic snowy experience skiing on your doorstep type holiday.... if the French don’t beat you to it!

Third bed was not made as promised and third person towels were missing when we arrived + the bed had to be made myself. Sauna "peffletti" had run out and the shampoo/shower gel ended after one day use. After using the washing machine, the smell in the bathroom was so bad you would not like to be in the bathroom. All of these were fixed when separately asked, but it felt like they were doing stuff with their left hand and its up to the customer to ask and complain each little thing to be fixed.

Other than that the visit was ok, staff was friendly and food was good.

We booked apartment through Inghams for a week Skiing. We had not been to Yllas before. Wanted to try somewhere different to Levi. We stayed in the Nordic apartments, new blocks bit further away from hotel. They aren’t usually used by inghams apparently? Really modern clean and stunning views of the artic. Could see the northern lights from the flat. Great for skiing bit awkward for shops. Bus service infrequent and doesn’t always stop at supermarket. Taxi from akaslompolo about £30.
Walk to supermarket 45 mins downhill. There is a v expensive corner shop in Yllas ski. Inghams did a free taxi run first night but only got 20 mins so was like supermarket sweep.

Bonus of location is you don’t have far to carry skis .Beautiful place as not v built up. Quiet and no queues.
Downside is getting bus to Y1 and Akaslompolo not easy as bus infrequent. You can ski over but gondola only open if weather good. One day hardly any lifts open. If you have young children go to Levi. There is really only skiing and the usual Lapland trips.
Pool in hotel ok, small and bit cold. I wouldn’t have paid extra for it. You can’t really swim in it, more lounge about!
Hotel staff lovely and apartments v clean and slept so well. I would go back to Yllas it’s beautiful and lots of great Skiing equal to Levi. The amenities limited but I love the woods so close, the views and the wilderness but self catering tricky! There is a really nice buffer at Y1 where Ski school is. Also pre book lessons if you want private group ones we couldn’t get any there!

Stayed for 3 nights in November. Hotel had been recommended to us and the surrounding area. It lived up to expectations and is a good 4 star standard. We stayed in a top floor superior family room with balcony. It had two double beds and tea coffee making facilities and adequate storage. It was very comfortable and clean. We had a view over the slopes at the back of the hotel. We had half board in the hotel and found it very satisfactory. There was a great variety of food and free to pour your own soft drinks juices hot drinks. There was more than enough food it was replenished and variety to satisfy everyone with a mix of finnish, international and plain foods. There was always salads soups breads desserts chips rice and a a variety of meat fish vegetables and breakfast had pancakes cereals fruit pastries hot chocolates etc. We enjoyed sitting by the window overlooking the village. We enjoyed the lively bar and a drink in the lobby bar with its fire and views of the village and snow. The kids enjoyed making friends in the games room. There was a gift shop in lobby too where we purchased some souvenirs. We also enjoyed the pool area with its christmas trees and piped music and the spa area jacuzzis and saunas. The kids were delighted they could try the hot areas too. The pool was s bit chilly for me however. We enjoyed the location very much being set in a sort of wilder more remote area but at same time being a few minutes walk or sled from a few bars, restaurants, baby slopes, gondola lift, kids play area and there were sleds outside the hotel. There's a ski shop within the hotel to hire skis or ski lessons and its a ski in and out hotel. We took the gondola trip up to the top and enjoyed the hidden cafe up there. We found it all very convenient and the hotel offered everything we needed. We enjoyed yllas and the hotel and would definitely return here.

We stayed in one of the chalets as a couple at the end of January. I’m not sure it really qualified as a “chalet” as it was part of a much larger building, but it was still very nice.

The private sauna was wonderful as was the included breakfast, which was among the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had.

I agree with some of the other reviewers that it seemed weird to leave the balcony lights on all night when you’re trying to look out at the sky, but maybe there’s a good reason for that. It also seemed strange not to supply at least some coffee and tea supplies in the rooms, especially since the grocery next to the hotel is very limited.

But overall this was a magical place with easy bus connections with the Kolari train and many great tour options. The spa within the main hotel was not included in the chalet price and we didn’t see that, but were very happy with the private sauna in the chalet.
