The cottage is very nice and comfortable, very well equipped. We were 8 people and there was plenty of everything in the kitchen.
It is in a very quiet location but everything is close by for sports activities and shopping.
It was a relaxing week with snow scooters, dog sleds and the Northern Lights.
I'll definitely come back 😁
thanks to Nicola and Tanja

We booked Yllashilla for a group of 8 adults for a 60th birthday celebration. It was perfect. The house is beautiful, complete with a sauna and outbuilding that houses a cooking fire, where we spent many wonderful evenings. The owners of Yllashilla put together a wonderful itinerary for us, cross-country ski-ing (there are tracks virtually from the front door), snow-mobiling, husky sleds, reindeers and even a visit to the wonderful ice hotel nearby. They recommended so many great things to do and were on hand to help us throughout our stay (one of our party broke a leg and they assisted with all the medical help and they even came to our aid when we found a stranded dog in the -35 degree temperatures and took him to safety). The wonderful thing about Yllashilla is that you feel so secluded even though you are located conveniently for the village.... and the view of the northern lights from the door step will always be the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Yllashilla is a wonderful place, run by great people who give outstanding service. I recommend it most highly.

Thank you for the review and apologies for the near-illegally-late response :D We are so happy to hear that your stay was so nice. It was absolutely no trouble for us to arrange the activities and help for you. Sorry for the unfortunate event of broken leg though. We've upgraded the cabin (f.e. with wi-fi), so whenever you feel like visiting us again, please contact us! Best regards, Mikko

The house was amazing, it felt like you were in an enchanted forest from a fairytale. It felt immediately like a home to us, incredibly well equipped with:
A Sauna
A special outdoor barbecue shelter 'Kota'
A Shed full of logs for the working fireplace
And even Christmas decorations.

The house was warm and clean, the beds were comfortable and the views from the kitchen & dining room made us feel like we were alone in the forest.

I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a romantic or family or an adventurous trip to breathtaking Lapland.

Family holiday to celebrate a birthday, all 10 of us getting together from England and Australia. Absolutely magical. Immaculate cottage, incredibly attentive owners and beautiful country. Very, very cold but 'dry' snow made for marvellous days [only problem was getting dressed in the morning, didn't know you could put so many layers on!] ski-ing, husky sledding, snow mobiles, ice palace, barbecues . . . Cannot recommend the owners highly enough.

We had a lovely holiday in Ylläshilla. The cottage is spacious and upstairs there is plenty of room for kids to play. The outdoor "summer kitchen" was a great adding to the cottage it self. Everything was is good condition and kitchen is very well equipped with all needed cooking accesssories. I highly recommed Ylläshilla!

Great to hear that you liked our cottage! Our tradition is to cook traditional Finnish pancakes in Kota (Kota = the "summer kitchen") every time we visit Ylläs :) Thank you for the feedback, Family Kirmanen

We were on a family vacation in Ylläshilla log cabin during Christmas. It's a very well equipped house in a peaceful location at the end of a road. Hiking trails start right off the front door and lakes and fells are also near. Sincerely recommended.

We took our 3 boys and my parents for a week to Finland and rented Yllashilla Cottage two weeks before Christmas. The main aim was to meet Father Christmas but we wanted to experience everything else this part of the country had to offer too. Having spoken to other families we definitely lucked out by choosing this area as the Father Christmas excursion was beautifully real, nothing tacky or fake, not overcrowded (only 20 or so other people) no merchandising or flashing lights just a simple believable secret village which made my 11 year old believe again! Nicola, the owner of Yllashilla helped us out with all our questions, put us in touch with organisers of husky trips, cross country skiing lessons, snowboarding teachers, restaurants and everything else we were looking for. She couldn't have been more helpful. The cottage was picturesque in it's setting, warm and cosy and had everything we needed right down to a heated clothes dryer! We had hired a car and the supermarket and local restaurants were a 10 minute drive away and about a 40 minute walk. We were 7 people and there was plenty of space for more. We honestly had the best trip it was what you dream Christmas to be like! Although having cross country skied across the lake and through the woods I would imagine it is pretty stunning in summer too.

We spent 5 nights at Ylläshilla as a family of 10. It was a very comfortable cabin with everything we needed. We especially loved the Kota where we spent most nights round the fire, it was a great area for socialising. We were out most days but we had one day staying in and had lots of fun playing around on the sledges, fat bikes, we even got our skis and snowboards out. The neighbourhood is great, very quiet and pretty to look at. Leading up to the trip, Nicola couldn’t do enough to help us plan our trip to perfection, not something you usually find with a private rental. We’ll definitely be heading back to Ylläshilla at some point, we loved it.

Hi, we have 3 bedrooms downstairs and 4+1 beds upstairs. The 2nd floor is an open space, but with some privacy from the rest of the cottage. 10 (or 9) people can easily have a great stay in Ylläshilla. Please contact info(at)lumihilla.fi - we'd love to have you in Ylläshilla!
