We stayed 4 nights and had an amazing time at this hotel even caught the northern lights.
Having said that Tui service and organisation was poor for many reasons.
1. Found out by chance about a trip out to another hotel for dinner as our rep wasn’t texting me to tell us about organises excursions because I hadn’t updated my details on Tui booking adding my mobile number but as I booked via Sant Claus trips I was unaware of this and the rep didint check. In all honesty food was terrible there so we got a taxi back. Upon our return explained this to our rep who informed us that a private function was going on so we couldn’t get any food at our hotel. If we’d of been told this we’d of eaten at a local restaurant as it happens he sorted out a table for us thankfully which other than the very scornful stares from the other attending Tui reps we enjoyed.
2. A very hard sell from airport to hotel for extra excursions almost relentlessly telling us they run out lots more people coming in later that day don’t delay etc etc. we did do the huskies excursions and it was amazing and pricy £150 per person hard sell wasn’t needed.
3. The gala dinner was a bit of a free for all nothing Tui could really do about that but felt a bit haphazardly organises
4. I understand travel restrictions etc change very fast and this is not Tui fault but a bit more help obtaining flow tests etc at the last minute would save a lot of stress for their customers
Overall an amazing holiday great meteorites good hotel and a wonderful Christmas
Only issues were the food mostly the evening meal which as others have said there is barely any choice and nothing for the kids at all. They must use the same herb/spice in everything as everything tastes the same and isn’t great. As someone else said with a fussy eater all there is are chips which even she got sick of. Also our room only got cleaned once which wasn’t great.
Finland itself is beautiful and we will go again but not to that Hotel probably. The quad rooms have a very steep staircase up to the mezzanine area so be mindful if you have anyone under the age of 7.
Family room has very steep wooden stairs to upper level. There is a gate at the top but I was still wary when my 9 & 5 year old were going up/down.
Bathroom is a wet room so floor can become dangerous. Sauna only fits 2 in.
No english speaking TV channels but we could put a memorey stick for films.
Food was good, basic but suitable for everyone. Water/tea/coffee avaiable at every meal. Helpful friendly staff.
Small gift shop that was quiet cheap compared to the price of drinks (which are very expensive).
Big area outside for plAying in the snow.
Short walk to the village centre/supermarket.
My only critiscm is the lack of room service.
The restaurant was spacious and we didn’t have to queue for food or struggle to get a table.
The food was varied and as long as you have a varied pallet, you will find something different every day.
I had reindeer and cheese soup, chicken keiv, chicken breast, sole and flounder, lovely potato wedges.
There was ham and cheeses for breakfast and also tried some pickled trout which was lovely.
A fabulous choice of breads I really liked the raisin bread.
Our 6yr old found something to eat everyday too.
It’s a shame it wasn’t all a bit hotter though.
The rooms, as they say are simple, I think they could improve them by putting decent duvets on and less lumpy pillows, but the room provides everything that you need in a very basic way.
Rooms are very clean, warm, small and practical.
All inclusive worked really well as we are a family of five and everyone could get what they wanted.
There is a short walk into Akaslompolo which takes you to a small shopping mall with a few nice shops and some bars and restaurants.
The kids had plenty to do through TUi we made Christmas crackers, had story time with Captain T and built a snowman.
Kiitos hyvaa joulua hotel snow princess!
I have noted with interest the ‘lack of choice’ of food for children. However this strikes me as very strange! If you want to give children a nutritionally poor and bland diet that is likely ultra processed, which leads to increased health risks (obesity, type 2 diabetes and all types cancer to mention but a few) then it may seem limited as no ultra processed pizza, burgers, Mac n cheese etc is present. However the choice of food is very varied, well presented in a buffet style, and hugely tasty. As kids can eat the same as adults - unsurprising to some - then the above criticism of ‘lack of choice’ simply does not add up.
There is entertainment for kids and adults (pool, darts, arcade games) and a relaxing bar area to enjoy a drink with a lovely little gift shop attached.
The location is probably one of the most beautiful places in earth, and many activities to do (skidooing, dog sledding and reindeer rides are a must, as is snow shooing). Fell skiing is great and, given the location, always guaranteed. Runs can be a little short & not as plentiful if you are used to the Alps per se, but there is still plenty to challenge people of all abilities, and the views more than make up for this.
The Finnish people are lovely and welcoming. Cross country skiing fantastic as is hiking in the forests.
I cannot wait to come back!
