Attended a wilderness Husky tour for 5 days. It was an amazing experience ... tue landscape, the snow and most importantly the wonderful powerful huskies!!!!
Tour was perfectly organized, the cabins at the camp had all comfort.
Our guide Christoph did an excellent job all the time.
Very important to mention the dog camp puts the dogs first and also takes care of the senior ones not able to pull sleds anymore. Unfortunately this is not the normal in Scandinavia where dogs not able to "work" anymore are being killed.
So if you plan a Husky Tour do check out before on how dogs are treated.

It was incredibly beautiful, much better than expected. We did the dog sledding wilderness week and are still deeply impressed by the landscape, the great dogs and the entire organization of the trip. The dogs here really have a happy husky life.

We did a short family tour with huskies. It was brilliantly organized and we had super guide with us. We got to learn few things about huskies as well. Really worth doing, both kids and adults found it to be a really good experience.

We booked a private tour as a family - that means we paid for a full 6 people but only five travelled. It was important to us to maintain our privacy. Nevertheless, we were informed on our arrival that we had to share our quarters with a stranger. Apparently, the 6th. Bed overbooked and double charged.
The huskys are incredibly sweet, our guide Thorid was really great and guided us through great landscapes! Everything else, however, was sadly cheeky. The wilderness cabins extremely dirty and grindy. Everything sticks, you can find in the kitchen the leftovers of the last weeks/months. The huts are cleaned exclusively by the guests - no extra-tour cleaning apparently takes place. You have to do everything yourself - not only take care of the dogs including removing dog droppings, heating, ...but also all cooking, washing up and cleaning matters. The beds are just disgusting and if the group consists of seven guests, not even everyone has their own bed. The dogs usually have to sleep on a chain in the snow during the tour, huts do not always exist for them - and if they do, not for all dogs.
The husky camp itself is better, but the manager at the camp is extremely unfriendly - a tone that corresponds more to a barracks than a holiday destination.
We have already done several husky tours. Clean wilderness huts, 2 guides per tour who prepare a soup over an open fire for the group at lunchtime and also make dinner, well-kept dogs, all of whom had their own cabin,...
Äkäskero was by far the most expensive, unfriendly and worst supplier!

In week 11 and 12 March 2024, I went on holiday at Äkäskero Sleddogcenter in Finland, but unfortunately, it was disappointing. We spent five days trekking through Finnish Lapland with sled dogs, staying in a different log cabin each day. On the first day, we only received instructions on how to brake the sled. On the second day, I asked our tour guide how to steer because I had overturned twice in a curve, but her answer was vague.

On the third day, some of the dog harnesses broke at the start, causing them not to be properly connected, which is essential for a safe ride through the snow. The materials at Äkäskero Sleddogcenter were of poor quality and broke easily. Additionally, the so-called team leader, Bara, who clearly showed little interest, hurriedly completed the route from cabin to cabin. We usually arrived at the cabin around 2:30 PM, while other groups continued longer and arrived at 4:00 PM. Upon arrival, she didn't bother to provide us with information about the sauna, fetching water, making fire, etc. We had to figure everything out ourselves.

I fell off the sled five times, and one of the sleds was significantly damaged because our team leader refused to provide instructions on how to steer the sled. This made me feel very unsafe and dreading the last day. On our last day, I asked again for instructions on steering the sled. At first, we were told that they never explain that to "tourists." I didn't bother to mention that tourists are also people who need instructions to do something.

Eventually, on the last day, she did teach us how to steer the sled. This finally made me feel safer and enjoy the experience. However, it remains sad that the dogs were not allowed to sleep indoors and were not allowed to lie together to keep warm. Also, the dogs were sometimes mistreated at Äkäskero Sleddogcenter.
Upon returning to Äkäskero Sleddogcenter, we were able to check into the same log cabin. To our surprise, the bed hadn't even been changed, apparently because most guests only stayed for one night. This added to the overall disappointment in the way things were run and the unfriendliness and indifference of the staff at Äkäskero Sleddogcenter.

I have informed my travel agency about my experience. Apparently, they also received complaints last year (2023) about the treatment of tourists and dogs, and therefore they have immediately terminated their partnership with Äkäskero Sleddogcenter. We will receive compensation for our next trip.

I came for a week (2 nights in the lodge, 3 nights on the dog sled trail, 1 night back in the lodge). Got picked up at the airport, got driven to the lodge, orientation session. All our outdoor clothes were ready for us. We were introduced to our guide, Ramona, who was very friendly and professional. Our trip on the dog sleds was one of the coolest things I've ever done. Yes, hours on the back of a dog sled in -30 degree weather is nuts, but the views were spectacular, the food (even on the road) was delicious. The cabins were warm and chopping wood and getting water from the well at the lakes was all part of the experience. We were very well taken care of and I felt very safe with our competent guide. I was hoping to see the Northern Lights and on my very last day, they appeared.

The only thing was that most of the information was in German only and I was a bit confused because there seemed to be some things that I was supposed to know, but didn't since I didn't read German.

Follow their recommended packing list. There were a couple of things on there that I didn't bring and wish I had. There is a little shop to get last minute things, but you're better off bringing them with you.

The rooms in the lodge were a bit small, but you aren't spending any time in the rooms, so it's ok.

And there was internet as well (who knew, in the middle of the Arctic).

We spent a wonderful week during our honeymoon in Äkäskero...
All the staff is very friendly and is doing his best for your confort.

We had the chance to have a big room with a wonderful view on the lake.

The atmosphere in the lodge is very warm and friendly, with a feeling of ski-classes...

We made a tour of 4 days with dog-sledges, and slept in small cabins in the forrest. There was no electricity nor current water, but it was very lovely to spent the evening around the fire, after having drawn water from the lake and having enjoyed a wood-fire-heated sauna!
The meals were quite simple, but very good (and anyway, we were quite hungry).

This trip was a wonderful experience... we were just in the middle of the nature, alone with ourselves (and the guide and 4 other peoples actually)...

The lodge is situated in the nature-park... with no neighbours or city around! It is the perfect place for people who like nature and quietness... Without TV or phone or radio, you can just enjoy the time, the silence, the people...

In three words: just go there!!! ;-)

What can I say...I have visited many countries, I have been in many adventures trips and so on, but this is really something else, it goes to a different level. Why ?
The first reason is the interaction with the dogs. I will not explain this, you just have to experience this! I miss my 4-leg friends so much ! the other reason is that for 5 days we experienced the lack of almost every kind of "civilization" which proved to be extremely healthy in all levels !
What else? amazing nature , Aurora Borealis, the guide (Marcus) was very good, kind, professional , knowledgable with love and interest for what he does. Moreover , we had sauna in every hut and wood station ,so cutting woods for the sauna and the fireplace + other activities like icefishing etc.
The trails was so beautiful crossing forest, hills, lakes and rivers. Not to forget every night that the dogs were transformed into "wolves" (amazing !). The boutique wooden hotel ( more like a chaulet) at the start is very nice with very good staff, amazing food and warm cosy rooms with private bathroom. The day after we came back from the tour with the dogs, we went on a very nice snowmobile day-tour which was also incuded in the price !
Have in mind that this is not a luxury hotel, this is a hotel close to nature , and also for the tour with the dogs you have to abandon your comfort zone, but this is the reason why you go there. I took part in the advanced tour starting on 31rs of March.

I could say much much more, but I will close here my review by saying a huge "thank you".
Thank you Akaskero team.We will meet again !

Fantastisch remote location. THE cabins are very cosy with their own sauna and à big pile of snow on the roof.

Everyone very friendly, food was fine. The three day husky tour was super , THE wilderniss cabins basic but very authentic and with à Great Guide and a super group of fellow participants a trip to remember.

Als the lodge is far from civilisation do not expect to find nice shops or rstaurants, but normally you should be there for nature...

I really enjoyed both the activities I did at Akaskero - the 'wilderness tour' husky sledding and snow shoe hike (an extra activity). The dogs seemed well looked after and clearly love the sledding (i was sceptical before going but i'm a convert now!). We stayed in very basic huts but that was part of the fun and what we all signed up for. I also liked the way we were thrown in at the deep end with the sledding.

Just a shame Akaskero let themselves down with some of the details. Firstly, our guide was grumpy and rude - every mistake received an aggressive telling off. Given it was everyone's first time that was way over the top... Then there was pickups/drop offs which was messed up 3 times. No list of names meant we were hanging around waiting for 3 people at the airport who didn't realise they were staying at Akaskero (they'd booked through a third party...). They wrongly assumed we'd all want to hang aroubd for 3 hrs at the dog kennels after the snow shoe hike rather than take the earlier bus which left without us. Around 10 of us on the 10am flight were put on a 5.45am transfer to kittalia airport meaning we arrived at a small provincial airport 3.5hrs before the flight after an unnecessary 5am start...

Finally, the 'hotel' is lacking some basics. Earplugs and an eye mask are essential (luckily i had both) given the walls and curtains are paper thin. The tiny single beds were pretty uncomfortable and multiple tiles were coming off the wall of the ensuite... it wouldn't take much to sort those things out. On the plus side the food was pretty good.

So overall i enjoyed the experience inspite of Akaskero not because of them!
