After some years we came back to the Hotel Krone which is sitiated in the heart of the old town ( 2 min to lake). New management. Renovated room. Our modern nice standard room has a view of the lake with the possibility to open windows and place chairs just in front of window .Almost like a balcony. Very attentive reception - great! Breakfast room with about 8 tables with lake view (has altogether much more tables). All in all we liked it very much and we will come again!

The upgraded option provided us with a charming rooms at the beginning and at the end of our bike tour in the region.
Outstanding breakfasts! Fruit and vegetable centrifuges, squeezes oranges, crêpes, cheese, and many other exquisites!
Cleanest rooms.
Very kind people at the reception desk, (thanks Maira!), besides the owners!

We travelled with our two grandchildren and couldn't have had a better experience. We stayed in one of the suites but were given access to the Spa suite which was a fabulous thing for the management to do. The managemnet team were also very good in helping us choose which suite was best for the grandkids, a really nice, personal touch.
Location is great.
Food was superb and the resturant staff were fabulous. Shout out to Philip who is a confident and engaging young man who my grandchildren thought was 'amazing'. The restaurant was closed one night for a conference but the staff went out of their way to prepare a Fondue for our family of 8 people and two grandkids!
First class all the way and we will be back.

My husband and I came to Murten to meet relatives who live here. This hotel is beyond charming and the hospitality is above 5 stars. We became friendly with Marc and Ariste, the brothers/ owners of this hotel. We learned the history of this multigenerational ownership. The staff was always friendly and professional. We highly recommend staying here.

We stayed here for one night in Sept. 2006. The Hotel Murtenhof and Krone was just wonderful! It is located in the small town of Murten in the old city overlooking Lake Murten. Our room had a very small balcony, just small enough to stand on and look out at the lake, it was just beautiful watching the sunset. The room was very clean, 2 twins pushed into a double but very comfortable. The bathroom was large and again was clean. The stay included breakfast which was excellent. It offered meats, cheeses, toasts and pastries, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, plenty of coffee and yogurt. It was delicious and plentiful at the buffett. We also ate at the hotel restaurant which was nice, but a little expensive. It is overlooking the lake in a room covered with windows. If you go before sunset, the sun shines directly in your eyes.... so make reservation for just before the sun goes down. The only issue with the room was that there is no AC, which is common but when you try to open the french doors at night you are flooded with mosquitoes. We were never bitten but there were plenty near our doors.... so we closed them even though it was a bit warm. Not many english speakers but can easily get by. A lovely stay. I would return.

it was a very poor and small room. inside was very stuffy and impossible to open the window because of the noise outside. despite the location, pay attention to the type of room, as some of them are totally unsuitable for a staying, I feel sorry for the sleepless night.

My husband and I visited Hotel Murtenhof during our honeymoon Rick Steve's Tour in Spring of 2007. We were pleasantly surprised by the owners hospitality and quirky charm. The hotel has great views of Lake Murten, a great history, a fabulous restaurant, and comfortable rooms.
Our tour guide arranged for us to have one of the most interesting hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. What stood out the most was the 'funky' round 1960ish style bed tucked into the corner (she found this rather amusing because of our honeymoon status). The bed was surprisingly comfortable, we had our own bathroom, and a nice view of the streets of Murten below.
During our stay, we ate at the hotel's restaurant for dinner and a few breakfasts. Breakfast was consistently good and the dinner was amazing. I can't remember the entire spread, but I do know that we had fish that was caught locally and a wonderful coffee flavored ice cream. The restaurant also has a great view of Lake Murten.
I believe that the hotel was partially under construction when we visited, so some things may have changed since then. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by Hotel Murtenhof. It was a great place to stay and we appreciated all of the little details the owners gave us to enjoy, If we were ever to return to Murten, we would stay there again.

Inside the walled and striking, historic patricians houses in the middle of the old town of Murten, The Hotel Murtenhof & Krone is the ideal place to stay. It has a great restaurant with spectacular views of the Lake. We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant and both main-meals were made from DEER meat, which had ravishing presentation and tasted delicious. The breakfast was also great with cheeses, meats, fresh fruit, dried fruit, yogurt, jams and an assortment of good breads.
We stayed in rooms 61 &62 , both of which were well equipped with a large, comfortable bed and a spectacular view of lake sunsets from the the large window.
Our one day stay was enjoyable, relaxing and we had a nice peaceful sleep. We recommend this hotel for the quality of the rooms and the friendliness and the staff.

This is a re-post with no changes as I accidentally posted on my wife's account. After completing here I shall withdraw the other one ....This hotel is situated to overlook Lac Murten/Morad and the dining areas take full advantage of that aspect. I'm afraid that is the end of the positives.... Our room was smelly; I pointed this out and was offered "smell masking liquid" as a solution. There was no sense of urgency to investigate and/or fix, so I suspect it was a known problem. Parking was initially an issue, we were invited to park about 100M away in a public car park. Later I again requested access to the hotel parking and was given a pass, with the comment "I hope there is space"!?? As it turned out the parking was fine, so I have no idea what the fuss was about. For simplicity we ate at the restaurant on our first night, but never again. The minimal vegetarian options (I think just a couple of salads and a vegetable plate) were very ordinary. The vegetables were limp and tasteless apart from the central half tomato which had a taste I am happy to forget. When the waiter asked if we enjoyed the meal I said "not really"; his line of investigation promptly stopped. At checkout I was not asked the customary "and how was your stay", so I told him anyway. I have to comment on the village itself, which for dining was unreasonably very expensive even by Swiss standards. Euro45 for an ordinary bottle of Rioja is just taking the micky. All the restaurants offered the same vegetarian options; no imagination happening there. The architecture and battlements, however, are well worth a visit, as is just walking around the village and meandering by the shore of the lake, but I would recommend staying somewhere else and traveling in for your visit.

Dear Mr. Craig, We like to thank you very much for your outstanding comments and regret deeply you had such uncomfortable stay with us. As you keep on going with unsatisfied comments about the other restaurants in Murten, it might have been perhaps not only the issue of our hotel/restaurant, or Murten itsselfs, that makes you feel so unsatisfied. We hope in future you will also find positive experiences during your travels and visits of other places. We wish you a lovely day. Kind regards from Murten
